  • got to love the ghoul playing on the right hand side of the stage, my gaze keeps heading over his way..

  • sound always sounds better in a theatre

  • These guys had just recorded what would become the bulk of Bleach earlier that day.

They drove down up to Seattle and then back for this show.

  • and when i thought downer couldnt get more intense

  • did they take a part of raunchola? from another song i know they did.

  • @william979

    If you must.

  • I am mistaken to my last comment. The practicing in the parents house was way after this. And this concert was actually the day after they played at the record store that I mentioned.

  • @KurdtKobain09 The record store performance was in 1989.

  • this isnt the earliest footage there is footage of them rehearsing in 87

  • that thing next to krist looks like a fuckin ghost headbanging :D awesome stuff btw

  • The Community World Theatre was INCREDIBLE and kept the music scene alive when Seattle had DESTROYED the all ages scene. Sooo...we all had to drive 38+ miles south...to the City of Destiny...TACOMA! I moved here June 3rd 1988 (The Accused were playing at TCWT that night) and would go there every day until it closed on the 28th of that same month with a great gig by The CIRCLE JERKS,7 SECONDS,S.G.M.(now Sweetwater) ALPHABET SWILL.........Thank God for Jim May and The Community World Theatre..

  • @GibsonElectricI 6ft 7 but whos counting xD

  • @cupcake3mo lol! you are great

  • @nigrobat why thank you lol

  • @cupcake3mo np,, i was high ;)

  • I did sound for this show. They had the Melvin's drummer (Dale) that night. I had done a direct mono board recording of that show and later gave it along with some other tapes of that era and of the Tropicana shows that I recorded to a friend of Kurt's (kind of regretted that). I recall that the board recording I did of Nirvana sucked because the guitar was too loud.

  • @EBWaldorf

    That's awesome man.

Where did they get those tapes of this show from the box set from? (I forget what was on there...Floyd, Downer).

They appear to be a mysterious source...anyone else taping that show? Had to have been from the soundboard,

  • if you must is the first song i never thought i would get to listen to this live wow it sound exactly like the one on the demo actually its bertter

  • And there are 7 parts of this show !!???

  • HOLY CRAP ! I was at this show !!!! Good 'ol YouTube !

The Community became a porn theater shortly after this..... has been closed for about 10 years.

  • @TacomaPaul

    . This is freakin great!

  • is this in HD? lol

  • There's that scream,best damn scream ever.....

  • There is much earlier footage. Honestly, I don't know the dates and what not. But I've seen footage of them still known as 'Ted Ed Fred' playing in a Record store. And, known as "nirvana' practicing at there parents house. And this seems to be an actual GIG so I ASSSUME the footage isbefore this.

  • This is one of my favorite Nirvana songs.... Crover's drumming on this is awesome.

  • how lucky guys on audience

  • Dale Crover was surprisingly good with Nirvana. I believe they could have gone all the way with the popularity they ultimately enjoyed with him at the drums as easily as they did with Dave Grohl. Just goes to show that becoming famous and rich is not that far of from winning the lottery except for the hours of work one has to put in before he can see if he can get lucky (he or she). It's a fate thing!

  • Dale is having a ball!

  • @GibsonElectricI ..absolutely i don't understand why did you say "i think it was definetly krist on bass here"..one question,Is there any other bassist in Nirvana?the answer is absolutely NO...

  • the floyd the barber song is the live version on the box set!

  • xD love these guys. but i agree that grohl is their best drummer.

  • @GibsonElectricI Krist was always the Bassist for Nirvana and Fecall Matter.

  • the first song is actually 'Grunge is Dead' or atleast thats its officail name, then downer then floyd the barber

  • Thats Dale on drums

  • the first song is "if you must"

  • What the hell is that white shape next to Krist? It looks like the grim reaper playing banjo.

  • its the devil watching Kurt cuz he sold his soul to rock! yes the devil head bangs...

  • actually wait..I think its ET the extra terrestrial

  • @sailorjjj1 This shit is so old its like an 8 bit nintendo game

  • @scartissue94 funny man lol , and very weird, that's exactly what it looks like... lol

  • @GibsonElectricI Krist was the only Nirvana bassist

  • why the fuck am i seeing a World of Warcraft ad at the bottom? do they even know what kind of people listen to nirvana?

  • why is nevada still interesting?..they were one hit wonders..weren't they?. team spirit?..thats it.

  • @mrmrscosanostra huh?

  • @mrmrscosanostra What the hell are you talking about? Neveda? Um, The state never had a hit . Trust me I'm from there. If you ment Nirvana, They are one of the most legednary bands ever. Not a one hit wonder.

  • @mrmrscosanostra oh my god.

oh i love that nevada song team spirit. yeah that one really rocks my world.......

a small amount of time on goodle would of saved you from looking an arse in front of the whole world =)

  • @lookouthumanitarian omg you are an idiot. Learn how to type son.

  • @lookouthumanitarian what the fuck am i reading . jpeg

  • @mrmrscosanostra: Lol you dont know shit! haha

It's not nevada, it's freaking nirvana and its not team spirit its teen oh my fucking god...

  • @mrmrscosanostra no, not at all. pretty much all of their albums got great reviews, and they have PLENTY of hits. and 1-It's N-I-R-V-A-N-A, dude, and 2-It's T-E-E-N spirit

  • @mrmrscosanostra There should be a requirement that one has to be older than 12 to post comments.

  • @mrmrscosanostra thats just like your opinion man

  • @mrmrscosanostra ahaahahahahhaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • @mrmrscosanostra come as you are, heart shaped box, in bloom, teen spirit, lithium, you know youre right, sappy, silver, about a girl, all apologies, the man who sold the world(cover), something in the way... those are the NIRVANA hits

  • was that 1987?

  • aneurymer51 you douche Aaron Burhard was not on fecal matter it was kurt and dale crover

  • @GibsonElectricI Actually no. The band didn't start with Kurt and Krist, it started with Kurt and Aaron Burkhard in 1985 with their 'Fecial Matter' demo tape.

  • @Aneurysmer51 no!the band started in 1977 whit kurt playin the air guitar and his sister playing the air flute..that is was the beginning of nirvana

  • Comment removed

  • @bloodtearsej, awesome is it!!!? look you, get a grip. your hairs a mess and u smell like piss. sort your fucking life out!

  • @tennentsable well seeing how it all began, its good to watch these clips... fair enough may not sound as bright and the picture aint bright, but seeing them in old days i think looks good to watch despite that you said to me,, fait enough...

  • MONEY KILLS EVERYTHING , SEEING THIS VIDEO THAT I WILL NEVER STOP DOWNLOADING MUSIC . MUSIC MADE WITH LOVE IS FAR FAR BETTER THAN MADE WITH MONEY. IF DISAGREE THINK ABOUT THE EARLY GUNS , METALLICA ETC...

  • Fuck yes. One of their best. No one animal screams like Kurt...

  • @GrenciaMarius my favorite is the version of anuerysm on the 2nd box set cd toward the end. it is other worldly to me! fuckin' love it to death.

  • @GibsonElectricI yeah i didn't see your comment dude.

  • @GibsonElectricI there was never anyone else besided krist

  • It would be amazing to find a video recording of nirvana earlier than this date

  • This is about seven blocks from my house. The CWT (as a music stage) was an amazing venue for a relatively short period of time. Today this theater is a Latino Catholic Church. If you drove by you wouldn't ever figure it as the location of the first "Nirvana" performance.

  • first RECORDING

  • This is the Nirvana that would have made Kurt stay with us a little longer. I totally like this line up the best. Dave Crover is a Monster on the drums!

  • What's the first song played???

  • 93grunger. Its if you must.

  • Thanks!

  • @93grunger : "If you must"

  • that amazing, sexy scream.....so sad hes not still here

  • 3:45 what a haunting scream! what a voice!

  • hmm. the second song is on the sliver best of box CD. It's a good quality soundboard of it, anyone know if the soundboard for the rest of the gig can be found anywhere?

  • THis is the verion of floyd the barber off Sliver

  • @heatshot186 NO!!!!! this song is called "papercut"

  • Spank Thru is an Ode to Masturbation, Kurt said himself(NOT JOKING!!) And yes Spank thru was the first song Nirvana Recorded AS Nivrana, It was on the Sub Pop 200 compalatain.

  • It was before the 200 compilation, it was on their first official demo tape which was made in January 1988. SubPop 200 was put together in December 88 with version of Spank Thru that was in fact remixed.

  • Spank Thru was off the Fecal Matter demo tape that Kurt recorded with Buzz Osbourn of the MElvins it had over fifteen songs on it so you can go pee yourself if you think Spank was the First!

  • It was Dale Crover not Buzz Osbourne ;-)

  • Buzz was on Bass Dale was on drums on fecal matter

  • dude, you are a tool.

  • You are right, it was Crover and it was On Jan 23/88 they traveled to Seattle and recorder their first "OFFICIAL" demo tape. They may have recorded themselves at some point prior, and they did, but this is when the first official demo tape was. Ten songs (actually 9.5), in order: If You Must, Downer, Floyd the Barber, Paper Cuts, Spank Thru, Hairspray Queen, Aero Zeppelin, Beeswax, Mexican Seafood, and half of Pen Cap Chew.

  • 15 ! wtf

  • @heatshot186

The Fecal Matter Demo tape was recorded in 1985 before nirvana was formed so those are not nirvana recordings. But I agree with you that spank thru was one of the first nirvana songs.

  • SPANK thru not spanks

  • if you must was the first one

  • ohhhhhhhhhh I thought you were saying the 1st song they play in this show is spank thru.... I was like no, not at all, yeah the 1st nirvana song is spank thru you're right.

  • the first song is If You Must

  • Dave is still the best drummer in the world... he was in the 90's

  • is kurt playing a hi flyer i cant tell

  • dave is more a break punk player

    chad plays grunge on drums

because the music type of nirvana changed with nevermind, i dont know why, but in incesticide were more grunge songs of the old recording maybe aqero zeppelin.

in utero was more a punk album with radio friendly unit shifter

but there are some grunge songs too

you must see, nirvana belongs to too music genres, it is between punk and heavy metal and then its grunge!

  • grunge was more of an era then a style

  • chad didnt suck his drumming was tonnes more frantic and loose than daves heavy thumping, chad was far more grunge!!!

  • i cant undestand why if u must and blandest were rejected

  • i love this early stuff. its awesome!!!

  • if u must was the first song i think, they used to get blandest and this song names turned around sometimes lol.

  • kurt hated this song because it is sickening in the likes of whitesnake and bon jovi

  • I can't believe this wasn't their biggest hit

  • Which song?

  • first one

  • kurt actually ended up hating that song, i dont know why though, because its good

  • looooool

  • great vid!! this seems very rare footage :) oh and yes.. 2:50.. LOL

  • babahahahha I love how in 2:50 you can see someone getting up and leaving

    damn,

  • I wish I could scream as well as Kurt could then.

  • Do you think his screaming was better in the early days or later on?

  • Well, to me, it sounds more restricted and strained later on in his career due to excess smoking and a lot of vocal strain over the years. Like, it sounds more raspy and breathy. In the Bleach-mid-Nevermind era, it sounded more free-flowing and just, I guess, more like screams rather than just stressed singing. To sum it up, I like it better from the earlier stuff, personally.

  • what is to the right of krist is the reflection of the drums.

  • people like you make me sick

if you hate nirvana so much than don't watch their videos (why are you watching them anyway?) anyway, if your going talk bad about a great band, then maybe you should stay off the internet

    ~A Nirvana Fan~

  • I find it strange you hate an exceptional band.. I thought things where only supposed to be hated if they wher bad? But maybe thats just me..

  • dude u need a shrink ya fucking freak

  • i fucked your mama today ;)

  • dude ur a fucking tool

  • Dave is their best drummer, but Dale is equally hard-hitting.

  • Damn, Chad is fucking rocking out on the drumz!!!

  • its dale crover from the melvins. Chad was never that good

  • very true

  • i liked chad's drumming

  • it's not Chad it's Dale Crover on drums

  • thanks, It did seem kind of not chad's normal style

  • heheh yeah...

  • yeah chad sucked actually

  • get your info before you embarass yourself. that might be your opinion but it is truly incorrect

  • it is not Chad for god!!!

  • hey, WHAT´S AT KRIST RIGHT :| ?

    FKING CREEPY =S

  • looks like a ghost rocking out with him id say.

  • VERYYY RARE wish the quality was a bit better but watever

  • This Is A Gem How Did You Get This?

  • this version of floyd the barber is on sliver:best of the box

  • isn't this on with the lights out? (-this performance of if you must)

  • Wow!

  • amazing ^^

  • good shit!!!!

  • No one in that audience had a clue just how important these guys would become.

  • the best shit ever

  • this is amazing! how on earth did you lay your hands on this?
