No, it depends. Some countries have one of 22% or so. Originally the US's plan was for 30% but recent stuff I've heard is that it will probably start at 22% and would probably get lowered to 20% after 2 years or so of seein how it goes.

I don't buy that Ron Paul is more libertarian Gravel. Libertarian stands for liberty. Ron Paul is not for a womans right to make decisions about her own body, and he also thinks states should be able to ban gay marriage/civil unions/adoptions. Gravel will make sure the federal and state government will not infringe on our rights.

I listened to Mike Gravel and decided he would be the one I would vote for after Ron Paul. Each and every one of the other candidates are big-government yahoos. Even Ron Paul's friend Kucinich is wrong, so wrong on everything but the war and Patriot act. Gravel is much better on the issues than Kucinich.

I'm a Libertarian. I don't want gov't health care and if you think it's a good thing you likely aren't paying attention. I want the border(s) secured. No war (ever). No National (gov't) ID. I don't speak for anyone but me.

Gravel's healthcare plan will be paid for by a portion of the Progressive Fair Tax he proposes. Equal health coverage for ALL citizens. Fences do not secure borders. A national ID card would be totally legit under Mike Gravel, IF voted for under the National Initiative, when that would be enacted. Mike is bar-none, the most anti-war candidate.

Depends on your definition of freedom. Its impossible for us to be completely free and survive whilst turning into a total anarchy which has no structure for a fair and just society. You have to come to terms with who as a whole believes in less authority over your lives by coercive interests. Is it people of current authoritarian power of a few in the state or private sector or is it your community. The people can't do something unconstitutional their still subject to checks and balances.

Freedom means the ability to act independently. Universality determines that freedom lovers cannot interfere with others ability to act independently.

Democracy is all about conformity even if that conformity is to the demands of the majority of a small community. Scale does not affect or solve the problem. Participation and subjugation must be voluntary to enable freedom, a principle not found in democracy. Democracy is the tyranny of the majority over any minority regarding any issue.

It depends on the method to achieve those goals. For example, we can end poverty by getting rid of the welfare state and the IRS. Health care would become affordable and available to everyone by getting government totally out of the health care system. Do you now how much the states subsidize health care driving up prices?

No. There will always be poverty. We can only guarantee freedom which will guarantee people a way out of poverty.

But getting government out of health care is very different from what Gravel has proposed, which is universal health care provided by government vouchers, subsidized by more taxation, again with the notion that health care is a right.

Well I don't know...from what I understand there seems to be more to it. A libertarian is considered to be a person with libertarian goals, but a Libertarian with an uppercase "L" is technically defined as someone who belives in the existing political system. As a Libertarian, you can advocate liberty while still being socially tolerant. I agree that they're states' rights, but when you read their platform on the official website, they appear to be for gay rights as well.

LumpyRevolution: I wish you had heard Mike's interview on northvirginiapatriots (dot) com on Monday. He actually clairified the National ID card in that interview. Basically, he said that while he believes that a National ID would make everyone's life easier, if the ID was used as a tool that the government used to infringe upon the lives of the citizens, he would NOT support it. Hopefully someone will post that radio interview up on youtube soon or they post it up on the site- it was fantastic!

I was there for the interview. I heard Mike on skype and the whole 9 yards. You may have missed the chat window where I was viewing it from a freedom lover's web site. As much as I love Mike (and I truly do) he is simply not a candidate for Libertarians. Mike is like a surrogate far off father figure for me, he helped me to wake up but I don't think he gets the whole picture (but he gets it more than the 3 bad choices). I've signed Ni4d and have it bannered on many sites. No doubt it's better!
