I'm all for Mike Gravel. I found this video to be a little to annoying, however. But, at least someone did something. If Gravel runs again, I'll do what I can to help. I just wish this clip wasn't so 1967. But, thanks for doing something! Gravel 2012
Because the Libertarian party is the party of less government and more power to the people! The Democratic party is not the "party of the people." Psh.... It's the party of the bureaucrats!!!!
the fairtax includes a prebate given to every citizen, even if they are unemployed so that they have the right to exist on the earth. i like gravel. i'm a libertarian and can even see the need for socialized insurance. i would like to see a barr/gravel ticket. i think it makes for a nice balanced combo.
It's laughable posting punk rock anthems with Gravel's business-as-usual socialist message. He's coming to the Libertarian National Convention to embarrass himself. He's totally not a libertarian, and everyone knows it.
Wayne Root is a solid Libertarian freedom lover. Mike Gravel is a Democrat, not a Libertarian. Gravel thinks the EPA should be a gestapo that can limit individuals' rights in the free market. The Libertarian Party has never stood for enviro-fascism. Ayn Rand herself called "the New Left" the anti-industrial revolution. Libertarians also don't want socialized medicine like Gravel does. Gravel is a socialist attempt at infiltrating the freedom movement. Get a clue. Google: ROOT FOR AMERICA
The countries that have high sales tax -- DONT TAX MEDICAL COST -- they pay the medical cost!! Fairtax TAXES it -- don't you grap that?
Also -- Fairtax would be 60 or 90% -- the 23 is a joke. That 23 assumes NO exemptions - it even COUNTS absurdly the GOVERNMENT paying ITSELF 800 billion (Total bullshit). When people get exemptions -- cancer victims for example -- the rate HAS to go much higher.
Gravel is a good man -- kind of stupid about economy though. His lunatic Fairtax is a farce --he just doesn't know it.
Fairtax would be the worlds HIGHEST sales tax -- no other country even comes CLOSE to this high of a sales tax.
That's not SO bad -- but this lunatic tax you have to pay on your RENT -- on your CAR insurance, on your gasoline and utility bill, on your MEDICAL costs -- everything!!
Get cancer? Pay 60,000 in SALES tax under this bullshit. Its crazy as hell!!
No, it depends. Some countries have one of 22% or so. Originally the US's plan was for 30% but recent stuff I've heard is that it will probably start at 22% and would probably get lowered to 20% after 2 years or so of seein how it goes.
I don't buy that Ron Paul is more libertarian Gravel. Libertarian stands for liberty. Ron Paul is not for a womans right to make decisions about her own body, and he also thinks states should be able to ban gay marriage/civil unions/adoptions. Gravel will make sure the federal and state government will not infringe on our rights.
Mike Gravel lost all my support! In mid-march he endorsed Jesse Johnson of the Green party and 11 days later he switched to the libertarian side. Huh?! What the hell is going on? I tell you what is going on. Mike Gravel is trying to grab a piece of a revolution that he did not create by pretending to be a libertarian. That's being a thief - laying a claim to that which is not his. All the fantastic people who support Ron Paul won't fall for that scam!!!
I listened to Mike Gravel and decided he would be the one I would vote for after Ron Paul. Each and every one of the other candidates are big-government yahoos. Even Ron Paul's friend Kucinich is wrong, so wrong on everything but the war and Patriot act. Gravel is much better on the issues than Kucinich.
Havent we had a R/D as pres/ VP before? Why CANT we have a Paul/ Gravel ticket? If Paul "doesnt make it" on the gop after the delegate situation is resolved,
(see gopteaparty(DOT)com)
then he could be Gravel's VP? I think that would be..a good thing.
We might have McCain/Lieberman. Lieberman is such scum, switching sides so often as he does. Have you read the bill he put forth that would have let Bush attack any country without ever even mentioning it to congress? What a piece of shit. The only good thing to come out of Bush stealing the election was Lieberman staying away from executive power.
FINALLY!!!! i've been sayin that for a coupla months now n people keep tellin me i'm a fool (About the Republican ticket). Yeah, n have u read about the Warner Defense Act of '07? Allows for arrest n containment of SUSPECTED terrorists, SUSPECTED illegal immigrants and other "UNDESIRABLES". NO SHIT. It also grants Halliburton no bid contract for the construction of "Several" prisons along SW border of US. They don't spend Millions on prisons without plannin on fillin them... check it out....
lol why be mad at bush that he went to war after all every one i saw on tv was waving an american flag or was i dreaming lol. when people start waving the flag head for canada atleast there they don't go to war for no reason and you don't die for nothing. i mean where are the people protesting the war oh wait there aren't any so people baiscly just said to the army we don't care if your people die we're pricks that like to argue over canidates...
I'm a Libertarian. I don't want gov't health care and if you think it's a good thing you likely aren't paying attention. I want the border(s) secured. No war (ever). No National (gov't) ID. I don't speak for anyone but me.
I wish people looked into what Libertarianism actually is before they decided to speak for them. I love Mike but don't support his stand on those issues. He's far better than the supposed "top tier" (CFR) people. Thank you for letting me comment. Have a nice day. :)
Gravel's healthcare plan will be paid for by a portion of the Progressive Fair Tax he proposes. Equal health coverage for ALL citizens. Fences do not secure borders. A national ID card would be totally legit under Mike Gravel, IF voted for under the National Initiative, when that would be enacted. Mike is bar-none, the most anti-war candidate.
Mike Gravel DOES NOT SUPPORT the National ID or Real ID. Where did you come up with that nonsense? Get your facts straight. FOLKS BELIEVE ONLY THE SOURCE.
JayKHazen-what he's saying is that with Gravel's National Initiative We thePeople would decide. Thus if a majority of U.S. citizens wanted a National ID we would have one. If the majority decided that it was a bad idea we would not have one. The only people who want a national ID are those who are in with "big brother" (thus not the majority)
NOPE. If the majority of the people decide to have one, they can have one, but not those whose rights are violated. we are NOT a democracy; we are a republic. If the 'majority' in a democracy decided that everyone with your last name should be fried alive, would that make it right, simply because the 'majority' wanted it? Get real. Democracy is no virtue. ONLY guarantees of freedom are virtues. If we must overturn a democracy for human rights, so be it.
If your rather ridiculous hypothetical ever came to be that it would be deemed unconstitutional.
Now seriously how do you propose we guarantee freedoms? Obviously our republic isn't up to the task as our current executive has been very blatantly chipping away at our freedoms and "our representatives" won't do anything about it.
Our current system gives a very small minority power over the majority. Is that better?
I'd trust a self serving majority over a power hoarding minority anyday.
jeri-I just made sense of your last comment...are you an advocate of war with Iran? Surely you must realize that if we go to war with Iran it's not because of human rights violations or even nuclear aspirations. We're allies with states guilty of far worse crimes. If we go to war with them it will be because they have dared to defy the power elite of the U.S. and to further the goals of U.S. hegemony. Not for anything as defensible as "human rights violations."
Participation is only benefical if you are of the majority and you enforce a system that gives the majority power over others thereby restricting their freedom.
Depends on your definition of freedom. Its impossible for us to be completely free and survive whilst turning into a total anarchy which has no structure for a fair and just society. You have to come to terms with who as a whole believes in less authority over your lives by coercive interests. Is it people of current authoritarian power of a few in the state or private sector or is it your community. The people can't do something unconstitutional their still subject to checks and balances.
Freedom means the ability to act independently. Universality determines that freedom lovers cannot interfere with others ability to act independently.
Democracy is all about conformity even if that conformity is to the demands of the majority of a small community. Scale does not affect or solve the problem. Participation and subjugation must be voluntary to enable freedom, a principle not found in democracy. Democracy is the tyranny of the majority over any minority regarding any issue.
It depends on the method to achieve those goals. For example, we can end poverty by getting rid of the welfare state and the IRS. Health care would become affordable and available to everyone by getting government totally out of the health care system. Do you now how much the states subsidize health care driving up prices?
No. There will always be poverty. We can only guarantee freedom which will guarantee people a way out of poverty.
But getting government out of health care is very different from what Gravel has proposed, which is universal health care provided by government vouchers, subsidized by more taxation, again with the notion that health care is a right.
Well I don't know...from what I understand there seems to be more to it. A libertarian is considered to be a person with libertarian goals, but a Libertarian with an uppercase "L" is technically defined as someone who belives in the existing political system. As a Libertarian, you can advocate liberty while still being socially tolerant. I agree that they're states' rights, but when you read their platform on the official website, they appear to be for gay rights as well.
