  • i see u shot 5 times, but oni ejected 3 empty casing

  • @ncs2000 It's a long tube, it doesn't force them out 1 by 1.. gravity will either do it when you lower the barrel, or when you fire enough rounds eventually they will form a line and start pushing out the front.

  • i hope they make a version using .300black out

  • love the vids

  • I want to get this gun do you know ANYPLACE it can be found?

  • I have seen them for sale on Gunbroker and Gunsamerica.

    jeff

  • Comment removed

  • lol! Probably can't be found anywhere.

  • @alfonsothewhite First off, no I have never been to war. Second, i was referring to holding the gun in a a vertical position, because a slight upward position would obviously not inhibit the gun's ejection mechanism.

  • Hey Jeff, what are the flashes visible on top of the weapon as it cycles? I would assume it is powder still burning in the shell casings as they are ejected? Thanks for the great work.

  • Probably so.

    jeff

  • @LWDNKUMUS That flash is coming from the gas restrictor cap. It is the excess gas from the short stroke piston system. You use it to adjust the the gas system.

  • Have you done any kind of reliability test on this gun? I have heard about reliability issues with it, im hoping they are wrong because i want to get this gun... its this or a FAL or AR 15, which would you pick?

  • @spartan11717 FAL. Grab up the legendary FAL.

  • Thank you sir.

Keep up the great work !.

    Love your vids !

  • I wonder about the shell ejection. If you hold the RFB in the upward position while firing will the gun jamb because the shells can not escape the front of the gun ?

  • The empty cartridges eject regardless of the position of the weapon.

    Jeff

  • @kwill69058 why would you shoot up? if you do, you should stand there looking upward so you can see the bullet falling back down to the ground.

  • @rockbasalisk How is shooting up so hard to understand, imagine clearing a stair well. Are you gonna aim in front of you or up the stairs so you dont get caught off guard? Not just a slight angle but up there like 65 degrees

  • Why do most americans dismiss the bullpup? Doesn't almost every other civilized country use a bullpup , are americans not gentelmen? If americans are savages we should use the AK then , lol:)

  • Maybe we should all use Savage rifles.

    Jeff

  • DUDE! GET A TRIPOD SO YOU DON'T SHOOT THE POOR SAP ON THE OTHER END OF THAT CAMERA!

  • It's okay. That was only my brother. I have two more almost as good as him.

    Jeff

  • Proud owner of serial number TOM94!

Just took it out for the first time today, awesome weapon!

  • Can't own a 12in barrel AR15, but you can own an 18in barrel bullpup that is actually shorter in overall length, that's government for you. Kinda funny watching it puke out the brass. Sweet rifle.

  • Nice weapon! What ranges have you been able to shoot at with a good grouping? I was looking into a SKS 7.62 x 39, but now....

  • Came for the gun, stayed for the kickass beard.

  • how muuuch?

  • Is that flash inside the ejector tube at 2:02 (and forward) a normal thing? Any sense of how bright it might be at night?

  • I have no idea on that. Just a fluke that it was caught on camera.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom probably the glowing shell as it's extracted and pushed into the tube. it's no where near as bright as the muzzle flash would be normally.

  • @tincan77 that is the gas piston regulator releasing some of the gases from firing. it would be visible at night but not nearly as much as the muzzle flash.

  • Hey thanks for the video

  • What type of accuracy were you getting from the RFB? I'm really wanting one of these!!!!

  • From the referenced review:

"Accuracy varied from good to superb, depending upon the ammo chosen. Federal Gold Medal 168 grain hollowpoint was by far the most accurate ammunition tested in this RFB carbine, grouping reliably under three-quarters of an inch for three shots at one hundred yards. The military ball ammo grouped closer to two inches."

  • @Gunblastdotcom Thanks! I haven't had a chance to read the full review on your sight yet, but I will! One of the vids from Kel-tec shows a rail system that mounts onto the large threaded section of the barrel. That could be interesting, but, other than the appearance in the video, there's nothing about it on Kel-tec's website. Just thought I'd mention it in case you've not seen it yet. (Unlikely as that may be.) Thanks again!!!

  • So it seems you are saying pick one up??? I am glad you look like a red blooded american and still not afraid of being seen with a bulpup:) If I end up with one I'm going to get all sorts of crap from my buddies about having a bullpup ,lol:)

  • Ok Mr. Jeff, I am extremely confused by this. Isn't the whole Bullpup design centered around the concept of keeping the bolt and firing action behind the trigger to reduce recoil? Wasn't this why the Styer was so "ahead of its time."? From this description it sounds as if it pushes the round infront of the trigger system which would defeat the point of the Bullpup design wouldn't it?

  • @valakin HAHA, NVM I just found the highspeed cutaway video which explains/shows the mechanics on how this gun works. Sorry Mr. Jeff.

  • The bolt is still behind the trigger, in the rear of the stock. The empty cartridge pushing through a long chute, falling out the front of the weapon.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom have those empty cartridges ever get jammed up exiting the front chute?

  • Never.

  • Outstanding video. No BS, right to the point, Thanks

  • Kinda poops them casing out.

  • I've heard about the forward ejecting guns like the FN2000. Do you think there is any problem with empty casings falling back into the gun when fired vertically?

  • No problem at all.

  • Wonderful beard you got there.

  • Sir I was wondering how it operates around sand , with the forward ejecting tube chamber. Have you ever heard of any stats on it being fired in dirty environments, specifically any jamming ? Nice gun.

  • I have no info on that.

    jeff

  • like the gun however i cant find much for mag pouches. every time i look for pouches i find stuff for the ar-15 and ak

  • @choopdewoot Look for "FAL" or "M14" magazine pouches.

  • awesome, whenever im thinking of getting a new gun i always see if you have reviewed it first. i may have to get one of these, perfect for a southpaw shooter like me

  • Comment removed

  • That rifle is awesome. The ejection is neat.

  • look like a buul puped ak !!!

  • good review sir, my mind was already made up but this makes the gun seem that much better, especially with that supressor. about how much did the supressor cost you?

  • I think it was about $500 for the can, and another $200 government extortion fee.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom "Government extortion fee" That's classic lol! So overall, would you say the RFB is worth getting for the price? I've had my eye on one for quite some time now. Great vids by the way!

  • Yes, if you want an RFB, nothing else is comparable.

    jeff

  • BAD ASS GUN .....BAD ASS BEARD!

  • Hi Jeff think we live right in each others back yards, i live here in montgomery county right off I24 sango area. But i had a question for you and was wondering if you might be able to help me out. I want to purchase one of these rifles and am ready now, but i am finding they are hard to get for good price, all the ones i have seen on gunbroker have been around the $1800 price then the ffl and all that. Was wondering where i may be able to get one around here for decent $. Wanna sell yours?

  • Check with Tennessee Gun Country on Ft. Campbell Blvd. If they don't have one, I might sell mine. Hadn't thought about it, and will have to deliberate on that a bit. I never get to shoot my guns, as I am always shooting new guns. You can get me by email at jeff at gunblast.com

  • Now THAT is what the British Armed Forces should have to replace the POS they currently use, along with it's moth-killing cartridge.

    tac

  • thank god someone finaly made a bulpup for left handed people like us to use

  • how easy is it to clear a jam? seems like with a forward ejector it might be hard to clear.

  • Not a big problem at all. Pull the pin and everything opens up. However, i have not yet had a malfunction.

    Jeff

  • Looks very smooth and futuristic very little recoil for a .308 how many grain bullets were you using? My 308 has much more recoil I use it for deer took down a 9 pointer last year from about 60 yards. Out here in Oklahoma you wont have a shot much longer where I go hunting at.

  • I was shooting 147 grain bullets.

    jeff

  • @kodyman20 You aint kidding, its funny too because here in oklahoma were supposed to have "plains" lmao. all the plains have been bought out by farmers and ranchers so you cant hunt on it anyways.

  • @SocomGrizzly yea I know where i go hunting at down in south eastern Oklahoma there isn't many places to hunt either rich doctors are buying hundreds of acres at a time and leasing it out to hunting clubs. Getting pretty annoying last year we drove around for over an hour within about 20 miles and found a spot where its 40$ per hunter. Got camp set up by about 7 pm and still had some time to scout a bit. around where at in Oklahoma do you live?

  • now are you going to go ahead and order, if not already, the kel tec shotgun and wait another two years for it? lol..

  • a good pair of Kel Tec's would be the RFB & KSG

  • Thumbs up for a man who uses a sound 'supressor'. He has more 'common sense' than the folks running our government.

  • Thanks - but that's not hard to do!

  • @Gunblastdotcom Sorry to bother you again about this same topic, but i want and have been searching high and low for a decent price (not a steal or someone trying to rip my off either). I have had no luck in finding one of these guns except on gunbroker and they have worked thier prices up to about the &1900 range( i just think is too much, even above msrp) many advertise for around $1200 and i think is very fair but never have in stock. I live here in montgomery county also in TN and was hoping

  • @Gunblastdotcom (this is run on from another comment, sorry) But as was saying we live here in or close to Montgomery county in TN. But as I said no one seems able get these guns. I tried TGC (Tennessee Gun Country) and they quoted good prices but same problem everywhere is out of stcok and dont know when they will get in. Was wondeing if you could help me find one for around what they quoted the $1200 to $1300 range. Or would you like to sell yours to me. Any help is better then no help.

  • How goes it fellow lefty shooter.

  • I am very intent on purchasing one of these would u recommend it or after having it for awhile have you experienced a few problems?

  • Yes, I recommend it.

    Jeff

  • grisly adams

  • Wow

  • also, ive heard nothing but good things about this gun. does anyone know if it and/or a selective-fire variant of the upcoming 5.56 version will be evaluated by any militaries?

  • does anyone know what the price is on this gun?

  • I have little experience with firearms, so please explain to me kindly how that open ejection port does not cause major reliability problems. A lot of dirt could get in there.

  • @Ironfistconsumerist Well first of all I've heard no report of these rifles experiencing "major reliability problems". My guess, having never shot this gun, would be that since both brass and gas are being ejected down the ejection cylinder dirt would have a tough time working against that flow.

As for when it's dropped in water/mud I don't know, but that's not a reliability concern any civilian shooter is likely to have.

  • @ihaterobbie123 Thanks for the reply man. It makes sense. It is a beautiful firearm.

  • Inside the ejection port is a chute through which the empty brass travels. The chute is basically two tracks, through which any dirt, sand, or anything else will easily fall out. Very good system.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Thank you very much Jeff! I am left-eye dominant, and have a soft spot for this beauty.

  • Hey brother, that might be the best beard I've seen for about a year. Good concise info on the rifle as well. Thanks!

  • what leupold scope are you using here?

  • Mark 4, 8.5 to 25 power.

    Jeff

  • Just picked up a RFB for a deal because some poor soul forgot or was unable to get it off layaway. Haven't stopped grinning for 2 days.

  • I've heard complaints concerning the trigger pull on bullpup rifles. I personally lack the experience to comment, but I wonder how the trigger is on this and if the issue of trigger quality on bullpups is exaggerated.

  • The trigger pull on mine is very crisp, but a bit heavy at six pounds. Not really a problem at all, but not as light as I like for benchrest shooting.

    Jeff

  • with multiple gas adjustments, I wonder if this rifle wold work with lighter 762 loads.?

when people say this rifle is picky with ammo, that wouldnt include weaker but well reloaded handloads (if) the gas reguator was adjusted, would it?

  • Yes, you can adjust it to allow more gas into the system.

    jeff

  • 90% of Kel Tec haters have never even owned a Kel Tec product. They just see the cheap prices, and call it crap.

  • @mememe123xyz Same thing happens with Hi-Point. Only difference is that Hi-Point really IS crap lol.

  • So I'm not quite sure what to think of Kel-tec. From what I've heard they're either really good or really bad. I've kinda seen poo thrown in both directions. Is the RFB just one of those guns that you have to put a little more effort into maintaining it properly for it function reliably?

  • I have had no problems at all with mine. Many reported problems can be traced to the ammo. Lots of folks will spend $1200 on a fine rifle, and then feed it cheap reject Eastern European ammo.

    jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Ah ok. So it's more of using the right ammo for the right gun. ok Thanks!

  • @Gunblastdotcom That's a pretty good point about the ammo. You don't put cheap gas in a ferrari Enzo. So why would you use cheap ammo in a high end gun?

  • brave cameraman.

  • How much?

  • that gun with the supressor is as epic as your beard

  • I've never met a Kel-Tec that eventually didn't turn to junk in one way or the other...you can count on this one to have some type of problems..if not now, eventually. Junk.

  • Interesting - I've never had a Kel-Tec (and I've had many) that was, or eventually became, junk.

  • @Gunblastdotcom if you look on any of the Kel-Tec gun forums they are CHOCK full of bugs and fixes for almost all of their systems. Maybe it's just me but I believe when you purchase a firearm, it should shoot every time out of the box and there shouldn't be any "after market" bugs. I'm an old school M1a/Sig/CZ/H&K guy...maybe I'm just spoiled with their reliabiiity. I had a PA3T a few years ago that was complete junk. Keep us posted...thanks for your great reviews!

  • It's not just you - nothing less than 100% reliability in a defensive weapon is acceptable. Every company has a few lemons, and it seems you got one. I never have, and I'm even more old-school - a Garand/1911 or levergun/sixgun guy. Still, it's important that we have CONFIDENCE in the weapons we carry, and if you don't have confidence in your sidearm, then you do need to carry something else...

  • ...I am familiar with some of the fora to which you refer. I can't comment on anyone else's experiences with Kel-Tec, but I can comment on my own first-hand experiences, and they have all been positive. I have never had a problem with a Kel-Tec, and I've had many of them.

  • @Gunblastdotcom Not to jump in to the convo here but I have a PF-9 and the only issue I have had with it was with hard primer ammo. (The hammer is a touch on the light side.) But with normal (good quality) ammo, it has no issues what so ever and I've had it now for almost 3 years. I am also an old-school gun guy. I carry a M-1911A1 and have an M-14 as a battle rifle. But I still enjoy a nice Beretta. I just got a PX-4 Storm 9mm and I love it! Comfy to carry and very accurate!

  • @Gunblastdotcom I think the thing I like the most about the PX-4 is that instead of having a barrel that tilts upward (like many semi auto's these days) the barrel rotates and locks and stays perfectly straight. (better for accuracy) You should check it out (If you haven't already). Another thing I really like is the fact that it takes the same 17 round mags as the CX-4 Storm carbine (Which I also own). It's a great combo of SMG style carbine and side arm that both take the same mags.

  • Can the front ejection port get clogged up with spent casings?

  • Not in my experience.

  • must obtain one

  • Great review, thank you

  • Good , Fine weaponry

  • Jeff Hows the recoil on it?? During rapid firing?

  • It is a sweetheart. No pain at all.

    Jeff

  • Holy shit! Santa has something for the naughty kids...

  • Where did you get the gun I've looked in plenty of places and it was all out of stock

  • I bought mine direct from Kel-Tec. Keep calling around and get on a few dealer's lists.

    Jeff

  • @okie1011 , gunbroker auctions new in box from $1450.00 up^ but buy from dealer!!!!!

  • I fully agree, thanks for your professional and your quick response.

  • Jeff, you've had your RFB for sometime now. Is there a reload recipe you would share for its 18" - 11.25 twist barrel. Looks like the Fed 168 gr. match were sweet. I should have my RFB by 02-17-11.

    regards gc

  • I like the Sieirra 168 with a near-max load of Varget, the exact charge depending upon the accuracy in a particular rifle.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Jeff, It just came in. Had lots of fun sighting in, very accurate! surprised at the recoil not bad at all. Some videos shows it looking brutal. again surprised. Moves great from the house into the pickup short and maneuverable.

    Thanks

  • Congratulations! I'm sure you will love it, as I love mine.

  • @Gunblastdotcom Well, you may have to show me how to unload RFB with live round in chamber. I'm doing something wrong. How ever it drives nials!

    thanks

  • When you were firing, I didn't see all of the shell casings come out. Does it need to have some sort of gravity on it for them to come out correctly?

  • No. They are pushed out by subsequent firing, and eject perfectly, even when firing at an upward angle.

    Jeff

  • looks great! i like how none of the guns action is in the shooters face. makes for a much safer gun. only question is... is it worth the $1800?

  • Only you can decide what it is worth to you. many buyers believe that it is, but I have seen them sell for as low as $1300.

    Jeff

  • British military rfile. the Kel tech company customized it into a new look.. Same as their new shot gun which had feeding problem after a while..

  • i just got one for 14 at a gun show!!!! whats a good inexpensive scope for long range?? an whats good for short??

  • Good and inexpensive do not go well together. You have bought a fine rifle. Do not put a forty-dollar Chinese scope atop that weapon. The Redfield line is reasonably-priced, and made in the USA. The 4 to 12 power would serve very well, and can be found online for under 200 bucks.

    Jeff

  • At least $1500. The hard part is finding one!

  • @Gunblastdotcom alright thanks man

  • how much is a good price for a basic own?

  • @THEDAWJ one***

  • thats a cools gun

  • That supressor works really well. Were the rounds downloaded?

  • Not at all.

  • Very very nice. I want one of them now. I like how it ejects from the front. Only question would be is how do you clear a miss fire?

  • Just rack the charging handle, like on any other semi-automatic rifle.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom ok. I only own a semi-auto 22. I'm still young but starting to collect weapons. On my .22 i just pull the bolt back and eject the missfire.

  • Thanks Jeff, will order one tomorrow. You sold me.

  • That rifle is nicer looking than the FN. Plus is .308. Would love to have one as soon as they are more available. Can't wait 'till you get your hands on an KSG shotgun, I would like see you review one.

  • It poops brass out.

  • This guy is awesome! I used to always read his reviews on his website, now hes on youtube...horray!

    Lol

  • I really want one of these guns.

  • Get one, you'll like it. I love mine.

  • Metric or inch mags?

  • Metric.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom

One more question: Is clearing malfunctions difficult? I'm trying to see how you access the chamber for brass checks and what not. Nice suppressor by the way.

  • I have never had a malfunction with the RFB. However, it comes aprt as quickly as an AR, and is easy to service. The suppressor is a Tactical Solutions unit, I like it a lot.

    Jeff

  • You guys have all the fun!

Down here in Australia, we would dream to have a rifle like that, but our dumb gun laws prevent ownership:(

Thanks for doing the video mate, is the recoil a bit like the old SLR that the Aussie soldiers used in Vietnam?

That's a pretty good scope you got for it too; does she hold zeroe ok?

    regards from Down-under

  • I have no experience with that SLR, but the weight is very close, so I would expect about the same recoil. That scope is superb!

    Jeff

  • @Holidats vote with your feet mate, move to the states, buy some guns, defend liberty :)

  • the beatles rock

  • This is probably the best rifle on the market for folks who keep and reload their brass.

Just set a bucket under the gun and fill'er up.

No more walking around and picking up brass from all over the range.

  • I bet you cannot wait to get your hands on the newly announced Kel Tec KSG bullpup shotgun!

  • I talked with Kel-Tec this morning, and starting my begging process. However, the weapon is not in production yet.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom Yeah, rumors around the KTOG forums are production is "supposed" to start in April. I will keep my fingers crossed, as I am sure we all will be doing.

  • hahahaha

  • i... want... that... that whole set up is mighty impressive.... you are one lucky SOB

  • Yes thats another Left Handed person, and Left Handed shooter. I am Left Landed, glad to be even though I have terrible handwriting, but I shoot Right Handed sadly. o(v_v)o

  • Very nice... but shouldn't the music be 'happiness is a warm gun" ?? ;-)

Also, i here that ammo is getting hard to come by... is that still true?

  • The ammo situation is improving.

    Jeff
