Here's an interesting tid bit: I have a $1500 Laptop from Cyberpower PC (commissioned through MSI). It has: Core i7 2670QM Processor 8GB RAM (1333 MHz) GTX 570M Video Card. x2 Hybrid Hard Drives (500GB a piece) 15.6" Screen at a perfect 1080p resolution. (anti-glare) 32 second boot up time To get anywhere NEAR that in a 15" MacBook Pro....I'd have to drop $2300. Take what you will from this....I'm just saying....
@BaronPAWNCH Um, no, it is not. I have a $1500 PC Laptop that has the same, if not more, power than a $2300 MacBook Pro. I currently run the entire Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection on it, with ZERO flaws. Because I have a video card that the MacBook Pro CAN'T have, I can do things in Premiere Pro that a MacBook Pro can't hope to do.
I can also house two HDD's in my laptop. A $2300 MacBook Pro can't.
Mac is certainly NOT more value for the money. It's less. Far less.
I am a Mac user and I am satisfied BUT these ads just suck. Does Apple really has to do this kind of stuff? Telling every time that Mac its sooo much better in everything, PC users are frustrated all the time, ...? I am kinda ashamed by this commercials...
@Cconnolly14 I'm not even sure what you mean by that. The only market that Linux doesn't dominate is personal computing. Servers, supercomputers, and embedded systems use Linux for the most part. The only real downside of Linux is when it comes to running software developed exclusively for Windows, such as big name games and certain industrial software.
@MaestroDraven 2,3 Ghz dual core i5-processor, 2 Gt DDR3 ram, 500 Gt hard drive, Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor with 288MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory, and the amazing Mac os x and ilife '11 come with it... hmm... not bad in my opinion! : D
Really? I just built a computer for my sister-in-law with a 2.7GHz AMD APU (with AMD3000 graphics on the chip), 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 1TB SATA drive, Windows 7 Ultimate, Microsoft Office, and a 24" ASUS ML238 LED monitor. Final cost......$650. Trust me, the Mac is bad. Very, very, very bad.
@MaestroDraven mac isn't bad if it costs much. and btw, windows itself costs about 100 dollars + plus the microsoft office costs about as much. that can't be the final price in my opinion (unless you pirated the software)
@MaestroDraven Interestingly enough, comparable Windows PCs catered to professional market cost even more (e.g. HP Elitebook, Sony Vaio Z, Lenovo Thinkpad W, Dell Precision, etc..)
Unfortunately you're dealing with those companies which are known to overcharge. Sony and Lenovo are notoriously bad at this, as is Alienware. However, there's a limitless plethora of custom builders out there with indisputable reputations in the industry, not the least of which is iBuyPower. Any big box company will think about their bottom end first. A custom-built machine is a totally different ballgame whether you do it yourself, or buy one.
@MaestroDraven Well, you are definitely correct in that respect. Buying from a "famous" brand will always cost you a premium, otherwise all these companies won't make any money. What I'm getting at is that if you're willing to pay this amount of money, Macs are definitely more worth it for majority of consumers because of superior build quality and robust ecosystem. Macs are definitely not for everyone though, same as all above examples of professional PCs.
I'll agree with you only on the iMac.....and only on the 27" version. Even ASUS' ET-2410IUTS All-In-One will decimate the 21.5" iMac with a bigger screen and a victory in every major component, for $500 less. The 27", yes perhaps. It's a nice machine, and the only Mac which I believe justifies the cost. The Macbook and Mac Pro lines however, leave MUCH to be desired. I haven't figured out which one is more guilty of shameless price gouging yet.
@MaestroDraven I guess it all comes down to personal preference. The number one reason I use a Mac (dual-core Macbook Pro) as my primary machine is for OS X and OS X apps. I have 2 other laptops at home (quad-core HP Pavillion and quad-core Envy) but somehow the Macbook feels faster at almost all everyday tasks than the above 2. This is why I think that merely looking at specs is an incorrect way of going about it.
It does depend on OS, too. Right now, OSX and Windows 7 are pretty much identical in many ways. OSX loses out at heavy rendering, but has a slight advantage with desktop multitasking, for instance. I parallel OSX on my machine to stay informed and educated. To me, it's too cramped and narrow-ended for my tastes. I prefer an expandable list of options to customize everything with. So in that regard, yes, I do realize what you mean, exactly.
Also, keep in mind companies like ASUS, who routinely beat Apple into the mud in power and price points. ASUS G and U-Series laptops are certified Apple serial killers with twice as much hardware power, even better battery life than Apple boasts, and some of the best quality in the world. Compare ASUS' warranty to Apple's and you'll see what I mean. When an $1899 ASUS G-laptop can devour the soul of a $2499 17" Macbook Pro, you know something's up.
@MaestroDraven The problem with this is that you're merely looking at numbers (i.e. processing power, ram amount, etc..) but a more robust ecosystem of apps always trumps computer power. For example, It takes 20 minutes to render out a 10min 1080p clip in Final Cut Pro on a dual core 2011 Macbook Pro - the same amount of time it takes me to do so in After Effects on 2011 quad-core HP Pavillion laptop.
Ahhhhh, but therein lies your problem :) After Effects wasn't designed for video editing. Yes, you can jumble your way through it, but AE was designed specifically for visual effects. Even as a video-splicer and editor, you need to rely on RAM preview. You're comparing two completely different programs and then making assumptions based on how they run on two different machines. Use AE on a Mac and a PC, and see if the numbers spell the same.
@MaestroDraven Well, those are the two advanced video editors I currently own licences to, so I can't compare otherwise. Even so, I've yet to encounter a piece of video editing software that is as efficient as Final Cut Pro on either OS X or Windows.
Avid and Premiere Pro CS5, my friend. I use Premiere myself. It does everything Final Cut does, and some things it doesn't. Complex, but for a reason. There's nothing you can't accomplish. But After Effects, no, no. Don't try to gauge comparisons using that. That's not its function.
@MaestroDraven Never tried "Avid", I'll definitely take a look into it. I've only used Premiere Pro on someone's Mac Pro but it seemed to use 2x the resources as FCP and it took around the same amount of time to finish the task. I've only used the Windows version of Premiere Pro on my desktop so I don't have a valid comparison for laptops.
Premiere is a hog, yes. That's my only gripe. Why, I'm not entirely sure. I justify it via the options it gives me. Avid is industry-standard. To be honest I've never used it extensively, but most movies and TV shows use it.
@MaestroDraven Maybe it's because it's a 64bit only application. I guess Adobe doesn't bother improving it's efficiency because they know that the customers who use it run desktop setups that don't lack in power, and could care less about resource usage.
@g0rsk13g4n9st4 Actually, to be fair, Premiere Pro does allow for some flexibility in resource allocation. Granted,, it's only with RAM right now, but at least they've put forth an effort. Truthfully, the only reason Adobe products are 64-Bit is due to OS constraints involving RAM. 32-Bit is quite limiting in that arena.
And yes, Premiere Pro is otherwise resource intensive, but, much like AVID, it's becoming more GPU based than anything, so it kind of has to be.
For instance, render a 60 second Trapcode Form render with 200 particles on your Z-axis, and render it out on a Mac and a PC. I've done so...and believe me, the Mac can't keep up. Not even close.
Because Windows 7 came out and blew Snow Leopard out of the water, and the Pwn2Own challenge showed the world that Macs are quite literally the computers with the poorest security in the world.
@Theminecraftplayerdd Because Steve Jobs died or was dying and didn't have any power left in Apple to continue these childish ads. The Apple execs knew that these ads weren't exactly helping their image. It just made them look immature.
@iLoveJackingOn Do you have a router? If so, it probably uses Linux. Do you have TiVo? Linux. An Android smart-phone? Based on Linux. The list goes on. A lot of consumer electronics with embedded systems use Linux.
You're probably using Linux without even realizing it.
WTH??!!! only the diferencie about this two OSs is that mac works faster and has a pretty and stupid interface, but anyway has almost same programs both (I mean Abode After Effects, Adobe Premier, others) but Windows hasn't got imovie and who care? nobody use that shit, only 5 years' child, and if you buy a mac YOU CANT GET BETTER PERFORMANCE, BECAUSE IN APPLE ARE SO MF THAT IF YOU BUY A COMPUTER WITH THAT CARACTERISTIC, GO FUCK WITH IT!! WITH PC YOU CAN CHANGE PIECES :)
Thing is, professionally speaking, no one uses either iMovie or WMM for their projects. Mostly done on Final Cut or Adobe Premier, which are third party programs.
@JHeimStudios "Mostly done on Final Cut or Adobe Premier, which are third party programs."
Actually, Final Cut is first Party. It is owned by Apple. That aside, while both FCP AND Adobe Premier Pro (I use Premier m'self) are excellent programs....the MAIN program used in Hollywood is neither of them. Avid (sadly) is the most popular, by a long shot.
FCP and Premier Pro (along with the joke that is Vegas Pro) are more for high level Indie movies than anything.
Mac: "Oh I just made a home movie with iMovie, it was really easy."
PC: "Me too. It was just as easy, but for some reason yours will be better b/c you have an i in your software names."
Mac: "Don't feel bad b/c I have better video editing software PC."
PC: "Oh, I'm not. B/c Adobe Creative Suite is compatible with both systems so really who gives a fuck about iMovie or Movie Maker. Plus I have Sony Vegas...sickest comp ever is OUT!"
Ok look i made a lot of movies on widows movie maker they were alot of gun fighting movies i used gimp and paint and they all were pretty good to but this add makes fun of them by saying that they SUCK AND NOT DONE GOOD LIKE A REAL MOVIE WELL IM PISSED AT THAT AND I SAY F*CK YOU MAC. PC WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST CUS IT WAS THE BEST WHEN IT CAME OUT I HOPE YOU SEE THIS MAC AND I ALSO HOPE EVERY AMERICAN IN THE WORLD WILL SEE THIS AND STOP BUYING MAC AND START BUYING PC. MAC I SAY YOUR MOVIES SUCK
Mac is like The iPhone, Beats by dre, Italian clothing, Ferrari's, 5 Star restaurants, etc.. You hate on all those things cause you always find some cheap crappy alternative for them. :)
1. The Apple TV, aswell as Apple's current-gen mobile devices, mostly uses A4 and A5 processors, which are designed by Apple, manufactured by Samsung, and use an ARM core.
2. It's called the IBM PowerPC, not "Mac". Apple stopped putting PowerPC CPUs in Macs when they did the full switch to Intel. On a side note, the PS3 also has an IBM processor (although not a PowerPC).
Anyway, the real matter is the software that it's used with, and not its brand names.
I used to hate macs, until I got one.

Don't be a hipster, use Linux.
Nanofuture87 5 months ago 4
@Nanofuture87 other than running a server, nobody uses linux
iLoveJackingOn 3 months ago
@iLoveJackingOn Do you have a router? If so, it probably uses Linux. Do you have TiVo? Linux. An Android smart-phone? Based on Linux. The list goes on. A lot of consumer electronics with embedded systems use Linux.
You're probably using Linux without even realizing it.
Nanofuture87 3 months ago
WTH??!!! only the diferencie about this two OSs is that mac works faster and has a pretty and stupid interface, but anyway has almost same programs both (I mean Abode After Effects, Adobe Premier, others) but Windows hasn't got imovie and who care? nobody use that shit, only 5 years' child, and if you buy a mac YOU CANT GET BETTER PERFORMANCE, BECAUSE IN APPLE ARE SO MF THAT IF YOU BUY A COMPUTER WITH THAT CARACTERISTIC, GO FUCK WITH IT!! WITH PC YOU CAN CHANGE PIECES :)

@nosapi5 lol.. GEEK RAGE BRO. love it.

@nosapi5 Dude, I would never buy an Apple in my entire life. But the Apple haters are some of the dumbest, most annoying people on the planet.
You guys are just as sheep-ish as the apple fanboys (who are also pretty effing annoying).

Thing is, professionally speaking, no one uses either iMovie or WMM for their projects. Mostly done on Final Cut or Adobe Premier, which are third party programs.
JHeimStudios 5 months ago 2
@JHeimStudios "Mostly done on Final Cut or Adobe Premier, which are third party programs."
Actually, Final Cut is first Party. It is owned by Apple. That aside, while both FCP AND Adobe Premier Pro (I use Premier m'self) are excellent programs....the MAIN program used in Hollywood is neither of them. Avid (sadly) is the most popular, by a long shot.
FCP and Premier Pro (along with the joke that is Vegas Pro) are more for high level Indie movies than anything.

@AndrewDeLong Thank you for clearing that up without a hint of sarcasm or arrogance. I truly admire that. =)

@JHeimStudios Well, in your comment, you weren't trying to be an idiot or a fool, so I saw no reason to treat you as such.

@armorfid do u know that the xbox 360 USES a MAC processor?? i swear it's true! bill said that in an interview
xXMouadXx 6 months ago
@xXMouadXx
