This poem is actually one of my favourites by Hopkins, however, though the poet used a strict rhyming scheme to restrict his display of emotion somewhat, there are indications of his grief. Thus, I feel this poem should be read slower and stressed on words, more emotionally rich.

There's a chance my friend "Tom O'Bedlam" at the Spoken Verse channel has read this--and probably more in line with what you like--and he's British, so that helps, too.
