I got this router just to repeat open wifi for myself. I watched your videos and thats why I purchased them. My question is.. Are there settings that can be adjusted to improve the receiving of signals? I have adjusted the ACK to 0 and the Beacon to 50 or 75. I can pick up more open spots with the WIVIZ scanner then the regular site survey so how would I make more show up on the site survey. I have a external grid antenna that I might add to the router but it would be a pain.

@holycow343 NO , It is also a tmobile branded linksys wireless router by cisco and has the same memory specs as the wrt54g-tm but , it DOES NOT SUPPORT DD-WRT or other firmware . It does have a usb port for the U in the model number.

@keithheaton good for you bud :) the wrt54g-tm is my favorite, I am still running the router you see in this video, Its has been on 24/7 for the last year, with dd-wrt, overclocked @ 216 no heatsink with wifi at 170 miliwatts high gain anttenas. my videos and writings are collected at the site in the description. @keithheaton lol I ear ya on the DD-WRT firmware, I have found it very stable. I now have a wrt54gt-tm in repeater bridge mode repeating a 802.11 draft n wrt160nl. Gives me the best of both g speed and wireless n. My wrt54gtm is serving internet to several older computers without wireless and doing duty from Shoutcast tv servers to network attached storage (NAS) It is one IMO of linksys by cisco's best wifi routers

Are there newer versions that you would recommend now? or is this router still that good now? The reason I ask is iam trying to build a WiFi biquad dish antenna unfortunately I don't have the help nor the experience so I am carefully reading all that i can before purchasing anything and there has being a lot of mentioning about this router.

It is the last in line. There are newer routers but the features and memory are less. You will find more info @ the site in the description, and you can ask questions there ..enjoy.

you still have not said what kind of modem you have , and if you have both connected to each other which would be a bridge . when the router you are connected to find a connection to the inter net it will show you a ip addy when you ping it, you dony have to worry about changeing the state as this will happen by itself. out line the ?s i gave you int he the first post and we will figgure it out.

mine is wired connection the inter net works fine on my normal modem but i wanted the blue one to work so i could have it wireless but the blue one keeps saying local only and i cant figure out how to change the media state thing.

make your blue router admin page

read that the 192.168.bla.bla addy is in the same range as your modem, that should fix it.

a router is a router

and a modem is a modem

local only is not an error but a state of your network , I am going to say you are on broadband , some ISP look directly for the router that came with your service.

You will have to open a command window ...ipconfig ,,release /renew

sure you can , but as with all antenna , standard rules apply . By this I mean , the wirless radio that does the RX / TX must operate thru a properly tuned set of antenna to insure output perfomance and device longevity , not to mention RF safety. Glad you liked my router mod :) I love to hack into thinks to, right now for me its routers. lol Just take your time to get a grip on youtube, it takes a while to get used to everything, but the bad thing is, youtube has an update that changes everything once you do get used to it haha Well, Rock on man
