DESPERATE to know what she's doing on stage!! Especially the faces... One of the greatest interpreters on the Broadway stage, with a wonderfully fresh sense of humour. Magic every time :)
I wish someone could post the original version of this, when she sang it on "Saturday Night Live" in 1981. I thought that was far better -- she sang it very straight-faced, which made it all the funnier, as opposed to the elaborate build-up she gives it here.
@KeatonMovieFever Couldn't agree with you more. It was such a stunner when she sang it that it floored everybody in the room we were watching it in. Totally grand performance, and tragic that we can't see it here. Maybe one day....
I just wanted to see the original skit on SNL,she was wearing a long Navy gown with a playboy bunny on the bodice, She wore the same gown in a layout in Playboy mag later
Ms. Peters preformance (and I saw it live and recorded it) has to be one of the best!! Keep your Gun Clean............I Married A Monkey!!! what a show. Ya just had to be there.
Oh I've been looking for this song ever since I saw a clip on youtube of her singing it on the Johnny Carson show. That clip is long gone and I'm so glad to be able to finally hear it again.
She is my most favorite entertainer of my lifetime and I am 73, oops I forgot Judy and Liza, and Sammy, so you can see where I am coming from. Well, I paid $75 for a box seat practically on the stage in 2007, the show was in March 2008. It was worth more than $75, come on you can't fill your tank with gas for that price. Run, Walk, take a boat but get to see this most fantastic show. She is funny and oh such a voice. The most talented of singers alive today!!!!
The CD is: Sondheim, Etc.: Bernadette Peters Live At Carnegie Hall, but that song was only on the first pressing and then deleted from subsequent re-issues.
I saw her on Broadway in the "Goodbye Girl" with Martin Short and later saw her getting in a cab on the street. I want to know how she stays so young when she's in her '60's!
I've been looking for the video of her singing this song. She was fabulously funny....did it very tongue in cheek with a knock your sox off gown and with a grand piano and candlabra....it was wild. my hubby and I both loved it.. I'd buy it if I could. But I can't even find the cd.
hoping to get to see her in spokane in july. I have her sondheim etc cd with making love alone on it. Luckily I got it, because it's hard to find it now.
WHEN YOU DO, Puleeze let me know. I loved her singing that and have told a number of people about it but haven't been able to find it anywhere. If you know which SNL it was on, please let me know. tks. suetiggers
i've seen her in concert twice. she was the sexiest thing i've ever laid eyes on, and by far the best show ive ever seen. she sang circles around all her songs, and was hysterical.
omigosh u saw her twice?? i'm SO jealous! i want to see bernadette in concert so bad! did u ever go to the stage door afterward and meet her? that'd be so cool :) if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your ticket to see her? i'm just curious cuz i'd like to go someday!
we did wait, but she never came out, photos inside i think. but i do have her autograph from gypsy stage door, but i didn't see that show. the concerts were $50, both times in FL, once in Panama City once in Tallahasse
Linda Eder too. saw her in Atlanta GA, like $45 i think. unbelievable! stopped the show like, like 6 standing ovations. they both pretty much tour all the time. check out their websites
Where is the SNL version? Doesn't anyone have this to upload?

@KeatonMovieFever I'm so upset that both Hulu AND Netflix cut this from her episode. It's gotta be in an archive SOMEWHERE.

She sang that on Johnny Carson's show about 25(?) years ago. Carson fell off of his chair.

Check out the Sam Harris version of "making love alone" ... he reworked it a bit for a man... it's hysterical.

That SNL night was amazing. Musical guests Billy Joel (remote studio), the GoGos, Bernadette, and some classic Eddie Murphy.
What most people forget is that she also did the 'cold open' on the show with the song 'Johhny, Keep Your Gun Clean'
I've got the actual show on tape, I'll try to post it this month.
