  • No VCR or Netflix back in those days, my brother and I never missed the showing of "Giant Robot". Living in the U.S., we never knew this was a Series. I caught so may episodes on HULU.com. FAN FOR LIFE!!!

  • My son and I were watching power rangers so I had to show him my childhood super heroes. We just finished watching ultraman then johnny sokko. My son fell asleep. Oh well these were some of the best tv watching days of my childhood. Yes sad day when robot chose to leave us :-(

  • i dunno, making your body an explosive seemed like a fool proof plan.

  • Robot! Please come back, I need you here. T_T -Six knucklehead's imagination has been replace by CGI.

  • How many times did we play Johnny Sokko and his flying robot as kids? Brings back a lot of memories. I remember this episode well. As kids we were all crushed but, the world has been safer ever since.

  • did that dude just go for Giant Robots Crotch???? MMA?

  • hahahahahaha he called that little kid an IDIOT hahahahahahaha CPS!!!! where are you!

  • Epic.

  • WE used to watch this in the Early Seventies, as a Movie called "Voyage into Space" on the (LA ) Channel 5 Movie Theater, where they showed the same movie everyday for a week. And YES, I too cried when Giant Robot gave his life for us all. and when Dorothy thought she would never get back too Kansas too. 48 years of age here.

  • 43 years old and still get choked up here!

  • Doggone im gettin misty....lol

  • DAMN IT I GOT SOMETHING IN MY EYE .... I'M NOT CRYING

  • I'd for you robot sais

  • lucky for me I was an adult before I saw this episode...Out of the monster shows this was my favorite. This and the Space Giants.

  • ROBOTTT!!!!!!!

  • I never seen this! That one kid has a flip-up Timex special. LOL!

  • Great post. I too remember Giant Robot when it first "premiered" on TV in L.A. ~1975 (channel 5 I believe).. still remember the ad in TV Guide, was only 5 years old! Only time I cried from a tv or movie. Giant Robot lives!

  • @shinu55

YES, it was on the Channel 5 Movie Theater, where they played the same movie every day for a week. First place that I saw "Night of the Living Dead", "Picture Mommy Dead", and "I Saw What You Did, I Know Who You Are" .

  • Was a very sad day for me back in 1976, didnt think anything could stop the giant robot. RIP robot i miss you lol :)

  • I always hated the ending. and 35 years later, i still hate it. can't believe they killed off Robot.

  • One last thing, I can't believe these were just guys dressed up as monsters and robots. I always thought it was an actual giant. Hilarious...

  • I just watched this for the first time in over 35 years and got teary eyes but with a big smile. I think it was a combination of the robot, the two kids, and that music... It got me after all these years. Thanks for posting.

  • Agreed, it was very sad. As a 7 year old, I couldn't get the story. I just remember it was sad to see the big guy go :(

  • I too bawled like a baby when I saw this.lol But G

    uillotine had to be stopped

  • "...perhaps like a miracle, he will come back... out of the sky."

    Classic!!

  • ...brings out the little boy in all of us hard core men! I love you robot ♥

  • i totally remember when this happened! i always wanted a Giant Robot costume

  • this is so cheezy, but really cool, nice upload sir.

    great job

  • At least the guy playing guilliotine had his face concealed, I bet he was grateful for that.

  • Giant Robot, where are you going... with my childhood????

  • Well they can always build a new Giant robot.

  • The greatest Robot period!

  • So THAT'S where "Iron Giant" got its ending from!

  • losing your fave toy always sucks

  • Ok, lets all `fess up. We ALL cried like a baby when we saw this. You will not have your "man card" rejected for admitting it.

  • I never saw the series, only the movie. This truly IS a sad day for sci-fi fans!

  • I cried as a kid too...the closest thing i think is the iron giant

  • I never saw the individual series, the extended longer version would be shown. Question, did the longer version just combine all the series in to one movie?

  • @dmi65682005 yes it combine teh seris,, i didnt know either when here in los angeles, they show this on Channel 5,,, wow they were teh times,, as a kid i look up in there sky for giant robot

  • @dmi65682005: Yes, The feature "Voyage Into Space" was compiled from a few episodes of the series "Giant Robot". The movie was a staple in WABC's ( N.Y.) Science-Fiction week 4:30 Movie for years. I don't recall the series airing in the NY/NJ area but I knew a few folks that watched it on a Philadelphia station in the 70's.

  • Johnny Sokko sucked. Ultraman ruled. The science patrol driving around in their little Corsairs rocked.

  • I remember running home from school to watch Sokko and Ultraman back to back. Ahhh...those were the days!

  • thanks for posting this, it brings back so many memories as a child growing up watching this on Sat mornings.

  • i cried just now!havent seen it in about 30+years.ive been looking for this movie for about 20 years or more.it used to come on tv about 1 or twice a year in the 70'S.thanks for the memories...

  • Best show!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved it

  • oh wow, I never saw this one. Thanks for sharing

  • i remember this lol Johnny lost his signal! even my grandma was sad lmao!!!

  • wow i used to watch that as a kid along with ultra man and danger island i could not wait to get home from school and put on the tv i think i drove my mom nuts with it lmao but thanks for posting it brings back some childhood memories take care all john

  • I remember this one, boy did I cry!

  • Yeah, it was sad to watch after weeks of watching Giant Robot fight and win against evil, each time he dropped a monster.

  • That ending is still sad.

  • Why was this sad for you as a kid????????????????????? Wy is this the Saddest Day In Nostalgic History????????????????????????? Your comment makes no sense. I think you left out some key words or a whole sentance.

  • I love the gumshoe look amidst the space cadets

  • They should do a reboot version of this movie with the latest special effects, top actors. I would even welcome a new storyline where Giant Robot comes back like the Iron Giant or the evil Terminator....His pieces re-attach themselves and reform Giant robot.

  • @Skyman7500 ......You know......I think you may be on to something there Skyman...IF the Thundercats can recieve a reboot...Why not bring back Robot....and have a decendant of Johnny be caretaker of the watch too!!!!

  • Man1 emperor Gilatine used to scare the hell out of me when I was 7 or 8. Just the voice used to send shivers down my spin.

  • GLAD TO SEE I'M NOT ALONE. I'M 45 AND YES, IT WAS THE SADDEST DAY IN NOSTALGIC HISTORY WHEN GIANT ROBOT DIED. THANKS FOR THE LINK.

  • If you do not give me a blank check and help me destroy the value of the American dollar , Social security and Medicare will EXPLODE.

  • AWWW! I do miss this. I always thought Giant Robot was cute. :D

  • Except Giant Robot didn't go around biting Johnny Sacko or his friends...(did he?). Wait a second, Plot logic!(??) The villain says, 'Shoot me and my atomic body will destroy the world!'. He demonstrates by tossing a nail and appearently blowing up the SIDE of a mountain. WOW & EEgads!...I didn't know Earth was HALF the size of the Moon! Its good thing Giant Robo(t) saw GORATH Jr. heading this way. He saved TINY Earth from that AND the villain! YAY!!

  • This series was telecasted in doordarshan,India once a week(prob thurs or fri for 30 mins) in mid 80's when i was a kid. I had watched the series in b/w tv and probably many like me from India watched in the same way. At that time we had lots of powercut, i used to pray so that ther is no power cut and can watch the series. Thumbsup if anybdy felt the same way.....ne way loved the series very much

  • this was epic and sad.

  • Doesn't matter....Too many fond memories as a kid...loved this show.

  • Giant Robot destroyed Cthulhu.......

  • Superman....

And here I thought The Iron Giant was totally original at least in it's ending. Guess not. This is so classic of Japanese series (what's the plural of series?), having the heroic machine sacrifice itself in the end. I didn't watch this series but I did watch others like it. Too bad they started censoring everything in the 80s. Kids could learn a thing or two about honor from these shows.

  • I LOVED Giant Robot as a little kid in the early '70s...watched it all the time on TV at my grandma's house...I remember all the grunts and all the music...the weird dialogue...and I almost teared up watching this! Thanks for the blast to the past!

  • THIS WAS AND IS MY FAVORITE SCI FI MOVIE OF ALL TIME ( NEXT TO GODZILLA ) LOVE THIS MOVIE. I USE TO WEAR A WATCH AND PRETEND TO BE JOHNNY !!

  • I'm a 46 years old man with 5 kids sitting around me, and I have tears in my eyes wathcing this. How pathetic is that?!

  • @sombojoe Don't worry...I'm pretty sure everyone is teared up at this.

  • @LakeErieMermaid1 Yep! Same here!

  • @sombojoe I know the feeling. Pass the tissue please...

  • wow I also am 46 and have 5 kids! I didnt cry but I do know how you feel

  • @sombojoe I'm 43 and I started to tear up.hahaha..I remember this episode like it was yesterday..if i remember right, I didn't want to go to school the next day.

  • @sombojoe You are not alone

  • very sad day in my early youth indeed! I still have nightmares about it 25 yrs later ^ ^

  • @socomking- I have finally decirpted what happen that fateful day.....

As much as we loved Robot.....Robot was a computer that evolved. He was programed to learn from his environment as his operator who became more than that. Robot became sentinant, disobeyed orders as he learned from his fellow Unicorn agents...and being programed into Unicorn computer banks HAD access to all of the worlds computers and HISTORY of the world. He made the sacrifice to save us & became ....our Hero.

  • Second, look how they are pointing guns at each other and not using them. What a waste of loaded guns ! What was with this show ?!

  • I couldn't stand Johnny Sokko as a kid. I mean he had a giant steel robot and he only used it for good. What a waste of a giant steel robot !

  • I remember crying when I saw this as a kid.

  • Aw. I like this ending becuase I never thought Robo had a mind of his own. I feel like he made the decision to sacrifice himself.

  • 1:50 Is that Gaddafi in 1980s?

  • waaaaah!

  • boy i hated when this went off t.v.i use to hhurry home to wacht this at 5:oop.m on channel 52

  • @bigsidewalk UHF !!!!! 52

  • @bigsidewalk did you live in L.A.?

  • same here.

  • @bigsidewalk Me too! Channel 52 was a kids heaven back then.

  • Thanks dude for the upload. I was crying for weeks after this.

  • I was 4 when this was first broadcast in 1969. I remember standing in front of the TV saluting the robot, crying my eyes out. (I was four). Now I am 44 and still tearing up. It still makes me cry to think of an "inanimate machine" giving it's 'life' for us. Well programmed computer circuits or the mote of a soul? Dunno. Don't care. It still makes me cry. Oh, and the robot was built on earth by a scientist at Guillotines orders. Hulu has the entire series - with commercials. Thanks socomkingII !!

  • Dad's thinking "A trillion yen down the drain".

  • 1:08 oh the irony.

  • When I was a kid, I cried when Giant Robot "died." It was so sad.

  • @tubesurfer64 ok now, just between me n u, since were on this secure link...lol so did I...LMAO

  • I remember rushing home from school everyday to whatch this or Ultraman depending on which time of the year it was! Those were the days! Now I know where my daughter's passion for anime comes from.

  • Yeah, I remember watching this as a kid on a UHF station. Good old channel 52. Yeah that last episode made me cry as a kid. Hey, I'll even admit it still makes me tear up a bit beause they played it so well with the music and the acting. As cheesy as it is, It's still fun enterainment.

  • wow! born in 1970. this was my movie. i use to tear up at the end a bit. this- speed racer-kimba the white lion(whats up disney. you thiefs!) family theater i think it was. the older guy with the projector he use to turn on. THE BEST! being a kid was the best . innocence is a beautiful thing some times..

  • wow thanx for the post , i remember this when i was a kid , where can i find this movie at

  • I would love to own a copy of the movie. The name is "invasion from Outerspace". I do have 5 episodes of "Johny Soko and His Flying Robot".

(My wife has now seen me whimpering).

  • THANK YOU!!...for brining back some awesome memories for me!

  • I can see how buckethead was influenced by Giant Robot.

Love this shit man. Good bye giant robot...*salute*

  • I used to have this argument all the time with my friends about who would win in a fight between UltraMan vs Giant Robot.I picked Giant Robot because UltaMan's little light would start to blink after 2 minutes of fighting.

  • Good show but it paled compared to Ultraman.

  • I cried as a child when Giant Robot flew into space and died

  • Poor Johnny Sokko is now completely out of a job ... and at his young age, the grownups will dominate and pester him into an early grave. That's what I thought when, as a young adult, I happened on this episode. But I still think it's funny that the giant robot's name is "Giant Robot".

  • dont be ridiculous

  • * sorry, Chief of Unicorn...getting Johny and ultraman confused..

  • I agree with all of you, these were great times. I'd love to see this rebooted. I could even write a script for this. The real Johny Sokko, if he's still alive, would now be Chief of the Science Patrol...and a new threat would face the world...he rummages through his old things and finds the robots watch...and...

  • i dont care that this probably costed $50 to film, it is still awesome. come back robot!!!!!!!!!

  • I was crushed completely when this show ended and the gaint robot was killed , I know it looks phony now but I was a kid then about 5 or 6 and this was my favorite show ,me and some of the other little boys used to run home from school just too see this show and ultraman and marien boy and speed racer. oh what happen to my life why did I have to grow up I want my childhood back.

  • somewhere in the word, a man with a bucket on his head is crying

  • so heartbreaking then/so funny now!

  • This was one of my favorite programs i use to watch as a child too. that whistling use to ring in my head all day, love the finger tip missles and all the good sound effect back in the 70's, and to this day every time i see the end of this part, when johnny Sokko tries to call his robot back, and watching the little girl to gets me alittle watery, thank for the upload Socomkingll

  • at 6:00 ultraman comes to help gaint robot and save him and they live happily ever after The End

  • I'll admit, I know nothing about this show. I pretty muched watched it because I'm a huge Buckethead fan :D

  • And all of planet earth rejoiced when there just so happened to be an asteroid in the neighborhood!

  • Giant robot come back!!! D:

  • im 46 now and remembered the show but not the name..searched for a long time and just now found it...wow the memories it brings back...watching this...ultraman..speed racer...kimba the white lion...marine boy...loved watching all of those shows as a kid...thanx for adding this...really enjoyed it...

  • I definitely didn't like it when the Mexicans started disarming the good guys.

  • i wanted to cry back in the day when this shit ending .. fuckin Guillotine and his tiny finger nail & fuck the Gargoyle Gang .. fuck Nucleon too! i'll beat them down >:(

  • I'm 37 years old and after seeing this clip I have come full circle with everything I remember as a child, great post..... I am now complete.

  • Loved this show as a kid. I was born in 1970 and I remember watching Johnny downstairs in my parent's basement. Funny how I look back now and it has all the familiar trappings I never even thought of when I was younger: japanese militarism, heil Hitler solutes by the bad guys, atomic energy which will destroy the earth...wow. Sometimes being a grown up stinks when your mind automatically starts peeling back the onion. Cheezy effects and terrible acting aside, this was an amazing show to watch.

  • @ppsayl I agree with you a 100 %

  • @socomkingII - I second that.

  • @ppsayl , you hit the nail exactly on it, what an amazing time to be a kid when absolutely nothing made since, nowa days kids are way too serious..

  • @ppsayl I couldn't agree with you more. I too was born in 1970 and remember watching this in the living room as a boy while my parents slept on the couch. Strange how the images in your mind play on your emotions as you get older.

  • Still tugs at the part of my heart where the child in me remains. For a somewhat similar modern animated version of Giant Robot. The Iron Giant is a wonderfull animated feature. Directed by Brad Bird, Ie. The incredibles. Up, Finding Nemo etc.

  • Dude pulled out his nail - gnarly!

  • I'm welling up with tears just watching this....

  • Giant Robot and The Iron Giant both ended with an explosion! One film influenced the other!

  • Dear socomkingll I hear ya! God bless.

  • WOW!!! I Remember this episode. Truly a sad one,

  • ENTER SLIPDISC.

  • @Grunge00125 HAHAHA you idiots, giant robot has used up all his nuclear energy fighting my monsters!!

  • You know what's a good idea? Having kids fight against a alien terrorist organization that use guns when it's obviuos the kids don't know squat about how to use a firearm. I loved this show.

  • @thanoson So true, but in 26 episodes how many can you remember him using a gun..lol they started to play it safe I say!

  • used to watch this in 73&74 everyday after school, then UltraMan, then Lidville. Thanks for posting!

  • hey...iron giant ripped off johnny socko

  • The invention of the internet, in the latter part of the 20th century, has truly changed us as the human race. Thanks so much for posting, socomking!! Thanks so much!!

  • @coitinsforyourocky No Problem This Is My Child Hood Classic And Hero Too :)

  • I can't believe I've found this again, after all these years! My little brother & I used to watch this every single time it was on. We wouldn't miss it for anything. A couple of months ago, we were reminiscing about this show we used to watch when we were kids, back in the early eighties, ( I was like in 1st grade, 1981 or 82). But neither one of us could remember exactly what it was called. I remember it being in black and white. Maybe it was just our TV set! So imagine my surprise upon this!

  • at 42 still tear up watching this

  • I think if anyone has the know how, it would be really cool to make a Giant Robot

video game. Intoduce it to a new generation and us GR fans can enjoy it too, maybesomeone can make a GIANT ROBOT CARTOON. Just something to think about. I was a Art major in high school, but my drawing skills have gotten poor do to health problems. Now I'm an writer. but writing A Giant Robot story book may

not be the same. At least we have some good memories. God Bless.

  • @outerspaceoutpost first of all tks for stoppin by outer, and yea a game would be a nice touch, but prolly wouldnt get the same noteriety as godzillas or even theres a ultraman one but not in us!They do have a cartoon of jiant robo wich is giant robot, but I thought it was lame, but sorry to hear about your health problems, and wish better health to ya!I think giant robot did his time when it was and any remake will be a massive flop they shouldnt ever mess with this classic tks outer :)

  • I saw this movie when i was very young in the 70's. It was my favorite movie.

One weekend they showed it about 3 times and i watched it everytime it came on.

I think it was on the Family Film festival on KTLA 5 where they would show the same movie Friday Saturday and Sunday. Tom Hatten was the host. It would be cool to see the whole thing again.. Its been many years since i have see this movie. The effects are so bad but at the time they rocked.

  • I have been wanting to see this again for a very long time. Thanks for posting this here.

    Thank You!

  • This show made Ultraman look intelligent

  • The show where X7 died was sad too.

  • My opinion Giant Robot was greater than Superman!!!!! The Japanese were way ahead of us!!!!! I remember this episode....that should not have ended such a powerful superhero like this!!!! Still remember after elementary school...Rush...Rush...Rush....

  • "But the whole earth would be exploded...!" ROFLMFAO I haven't seen this since 400 years ago. omg thank you for uploading this. I remember this episode.

And Unicorn men were cool as hell, right? LOL

  • no, don't change a thing... this is the japanese version of "old yeller", instead of a boy and his dog we have a boy and his giant robot. trust me, leave it a classic and respect it for what it is.

  • @TheBasicmemory I dont necesarily require for movies to be exact imitations of reality. Thats why THIS is fantasy and not the Discovery channel.

  • I don't know guys. My grandmother was a HUGE fan of Hawaii Five O when I was little. By default so was I. Did any of you catch the Pilot episode of the new series. The have given it new life. I believe they could give this show new life. The real question is will they give it the thought it deserves to make sure.

  • They need to bring Giant Robot back!!! Update him but keep the story the same. Keep it simple! Giant Robot is the King of all robots. OK ... I cried at the end of the movie too.

  • @droker3121 Well droker just like our fav games always get turned and twisted like my socom its just not the same, and as for this classic they prolly ruin it too bro..leave timeless alone really tks for viewing!

  • Wow!!! I cried like a baby when this show ended. "How could robot leave Johnny and Unicorn like that?" "How could Giant Robot leave me like that?" What would happen if the Gargoyle Gang came back. I agree someone should remake this show. It was outstanding. So I say, "Someone start up an evil gang of Giant Robot driving criminals and call yourselves the "Gargolye Gang". I'll bet "Unicorn" and Johnny are just waiting in the wind to defeat your all.

  • @willgreen73 Well will I dont think johnny will be able to make it..since he passed away back in 97..sorry to bust your bubble brother but giant robot and U3 are fighting emp:Guillotine on the other side now :( God Bless Em!!

  • @socomkingII Yeah I figured Johnny might be to old to play the role now. But man it would be great for someone to remake the show and update it now. Wouldn't it? Or would they ruin it for us all?

  • @willgreen73 I surely hope they leave this classic alone!I highly doubt they could re create it and keep its purity, and the actors would prolly suck and the stories would be like way off!So My choice is leave sokko alone and dont destroy a goodthing!BTW they are re-distributing the dvd series officially no more crap copies..lol to be released eventually :) What do you think?also johnny sokko is dead too :\

  • I'm crying right now this was sad Why giant robot why!!!!!! We can rebuild him stronger faster, oh wait wrong show.

  • I was reliving the sad nostalgia of my child as I watched this and then... is it me, or does the evil guy try to grab Robot's balls at 2:43?

  • "Then the whole world would be exploded". Should be on the order of "All your base are belong to us". LOL.

  • Dude why did you have to go and post this? You got me at wrok trying not to tear up....

  • omg...i cried too...it almost reminded me of Iron Giant. Thats what I love about these japanese shows. They have depth to them, not just "shoot 'em up" stuff.

  • Yea, no kid living who watched this didn't cry!

  • Oh my god I thought I was the only kid who cried at the end? lol

I think a sequel is in order for closure.

  • @calibreaks420

I definitely doubt it bro I cried atleast for a month, and for sequels concern they would prolly ruin such this classic..im thinking giant robot paid his due and went out with a historic bang!

  • I think what gets me the most about this part is the whistling of the "Giant Robo" theme. Very sad.

  • I just loved this show/movie as a child.....I still cry everytime I watch this ending.

  • @sacelace1

I feel ya I still get teary eyed :\

  • a robots got to do what a robots got do...

..but man, tough way to go :*-(

  • @PorkFrog

    So true!

  • this shit was phucked up i was a kid and could not believe they would kill off giant robot

  • growing up in chicago, watchin channel 44, i saw this in the mid 1970's at age 5 yrs.....me & my cousins & neighbors cryed at this sceen.....

kids back then we're so innocent.....sigh....
