If anyone wants and African Grey find a responsible breeder where the birds get lots of early cuddling, socialization, read BEFORE you get the bird (talk to owners, watch videos), prepare your home, etc. They can live very long lives (60 years or more), so make your wishes known and have a will, just as if you had a child.
This is a real commitment.
WONDERFUL relationships with them, very rewarding!
They are so intelligent but they need owners who do their homework and understand the responsibility or owning one of these magnificent birds. Health, social, diet... just as if you were becoming a parent. They need attention, love. They have emotional and intellectual needs.
In your video I can tell this bird is cared for and loved by the things the bird says, and the voice is the person who takes care if it. Very loving tone of voice.
"Wanna go outside?" "Wanna shower?" Love this video!!!
What is so amazing about these birds is they don't just say words, or imitate a sound, they mimic the exact same sound . *your* telephone, microwave, etc. Mine would call my son using *my voice*. He would come downstairs. "what mom". I would say I did not call you. The bird would call me in my son's voice.
She also had fun with the dog. "Jasper! c'mere Jasper!" in one of our voices, whistle. When the dog got there? "You silly dog! hahaha!"
He is so cute! Thank you for sharing, mine passed away only a couple of months ago so am missing him terribly. Yes they do need a lot of love and attention but the reward is tenfold.
parrots do need a lot of care and attention,so dont get one if u cant dont do any of it,have known a couple of african greys, they are comical.but dont get one just for that..
He is so adorable! What is his name and I would love to have one. But I am raising 4 of my grandchildren and I would be afraid they would hurt one. Maybe when they are older. Thanks for sharing him with us.
a store is a good place for a parrot, allot of people to give him attention and (most of the time) it has other birds nearby, i know somebody with a parrot in my neighborhood, only sits in his cage all day in front of the window, screaming constantly.
Most important is a good diet. But yes, they can be trained. It takes time, and very much determination, patience, and love. There are also little flight suits/birdie diapers. You can't expect them to wear these 24 hours a day though. Keep researching. There are forums on the internet, magazines, books.
I love parrots! Although I really hate to see it when people don 't treat them right (counts for every animal though). You guys seems to do is very well (in my eyes), his feathers are nice and glowing! :D My brothers parrot can't talk since that is normal for his kind. Although he tries it, and that is just adorible! Thanks for posting.
Pierre is so cute and obviously very happy. I had an African Grey for several years, and she was a huge talker just like yours. I really miss her. Thanks for sharing.
@diamond420au please don't keep spreading bad information.
you are, of course, correct--people don't notice wings have grown back and then it's VERY dangerous to have a flighted bird that isn't trained or experienced. i always advise train or re-clip
however, parrots aren't dumb. don't say they cannot learn. they learn just like cats-n-dogs (cats jump on hot stoves and dogs run into glass)
@diamond420au i completely agree with you about taking clipped birds outside -- a disaster waiting to happen!! not only can they flap hard in a spook or catch some wind and fly anyway, but then without proper flight, they become a target for both ground and sky predators -- not to mention that they can't fly well enough to come down if they get up in a tree. however, there is no 'proper wing clip' that will solve all potential dangers--it's always too little or too much.
@randomvideosxoxo Nope, this is 100% real. I made this video over a year ago and got so many requests for more that there's 2 new ones on my channel as of this week. Check em out! He says even more now.
@diamond420au we never had a bad home-flight-related injury. but we had one bird fall while playing with her toys and hit her head, and another launched himself (clipped), and split his keel open. our vet says he sees far more injuries from clipped birds than flighted birds
flight injuries can happen like athletes get hurt, and birds need to learn to fly like kids need to learn to walk. we don't stop kids because they crash
so, it's definitely not "safest" and "best" for the BIRD
@flychomperfly It's all opinion, I guess. Some people will have more bad experiences with clipped wings, others without clipped wings. Depends on the safeness of your home, the environment the bird is in, etc. Injuries are injuries.. They'll happen either way, whether it's the owner's fault or an honest accident. The owners of this parrot have a really open concept home so in the winter his wings are grown in to fly around at will. But keep in mind some people live in smaller homes with hazards.
@CaterpillarGiraffe i totaly agree with you. i think he's also clipped because he's in a store, which could be also dangerous. some people might be scared (its weird, but it happens) and try to hit it, in self defense or something. or it would fly out of the door. outside he probably wont survive. its all about the situation your in!
@tarantulady The only time in the seven years that I have had Misty that he has flown into windows or had hard landings was when he was clipped. If you show a flighted bird where the windows are and put marks of some kind on them they will quickly learn. A clipped bird has poor control and will have accidents that can cause severe injury.
Misty is caged only to sleep or on the rare occasions when he has to be without a human. He his very skilled flying and never has problems. Clipping kills!
