you know what the worst thing is? [hard #5] ok im doin the combo right, and i get to the gekiro (to the last hit where gen makes that "oi-yo!" sound) and that last hit misses. i was just about ready to throw my controller at the tv lol
you have to press the buttons before you actually see the combo come out. after the light punches and that one medium punch the " 100 hands slap " or whatever its name is will come on its own.
after hitting the medium punch do the super ( two quarter circles+punch ) and stop spamming the punch button and it will come out and link with the "hands" eventually.
(preferably keep using medium punch for the super ).

Try doing light kick instead of Hard kick and once you get to the 5th kick (including the beginning Gekiro) try accelerating it a bit.
and to buddy, it's not impossible. You can change the style of combat WHILE doing the punch. Try Medium Punch and RIGHT THERE do all 3 kicks then the light kick.

Gen is not a good character to use an arcade stick with. On the controller, switching between his two styles only requires you press the left shoulder buttons, which makes switching for combos infinitely easier (though they're still difficult).

This is my first street fighter experience in the series and I really love the game. It's all I play. After trying all the characters I picked Gen to try and master. But playing online with him against projectile heavy spam players is a bitch. Making me want to go with Ken or Ryu instead. Using EX Jyasen goes trough most projectiles, but i feel that it takes way to long to charge with Gen. Am i wright? Also when you block a hit do you have to charge again or does it still buffer?
to get the 4th hard challenge, hold down for crouch obviously for the 2 light punches, then when you do the light punch hold towards dan. then all you have to do to tag on the super is one more down right MP--hope this helps

completing the gekiro.....watch the video at around 1 minute. it's all about timing. you can't mash out kicks. they have to accelerate. after launching dan into the air you have to wait a little before you hit him again, then slowly get faster with each hit. watch dan's body as it falls as a guide.

Just some advice, When you do the last trial make sure you find out the timing for the crouching light punch to standing medium punch, Also their is a certain timing for the heavy gekiro too. You'll understand what i mean when you get it!
If you haven't received help yet, or haven't got it yourself, you have to kick in a kind of slow pace, and then for the last kicks, you have to double tap kick. It should be like six normal, then the double tap kick.
How the hell do you do that Oga drop (I think its called), where you press Down after touching the ceiling? I thought you had to charge down, then up + kick, but he only jumps off the wall.
for everyone having a problem with the gekiro (the flying kick) pay attention to how many kicks this guy did and literally count them out as he did, then just mimick the count when youre doing it

Not much, he was severly nerfed. His attacks were slowed, and crane c. lk doesn't launch as high, so you don't have time to see if it connected before doing your super.
He really is. I have a guy on my friends list that plays Gen, OMG. The guy is a such a beast with him I didn't even know what hit me. I have never ever seen Gen being played that well.
Finally did it, but honestly, it's not something I can repeat whenever I want, which is why people prefer to stick to the Ryu and Ken clones. Why bother spending hours and hours learning to get the hang of every complicated EX-canceled special or charge move ultra when I can just dragon punch my way through everything. >_>
*yes that was sarcasm, but I really hate Guile's super and specials. The motions for that are near impossible to get right in the middle of a fight.
Yeah, Guile's are bastard hard to do. I just stick with Blanka and similar charge type characters (Bison, Balrog, E.Honda, etc). Least I can do their moves.
Strangely I seem to have problems playing shotos; Damn double 90 degree spins!
I can pull of guiles ultras quite easily in matches, but only if my opponent slips up and leaves themselves exposed. Even then though you can't always get the full connect. I think they need to tweak it really so it's more like Abel's or Sagats - the first barrage of attacks doing little damage but the last strike should do A LOT. Speaking of Ken, his special does way too much damage considering how easy it is to perform.
Foolish street fighter, a master Gen player is like a God when playing a random Ryu or Ken. Besides, you seem pretty normal, and normal people don't do that sort of thing anyway. Now Tournament players are a different breed, its all about being the cheapest bastard you can be, when it comes to street fighter. Which is why I'm not Tournament level. I prefer to win with honer and skill. Also I'd rather play and loose then spend hours practicing. But if you can do this then you'll be unstoppable.
try to keep dan's head at the same level as gen's throughout the gekiro. start with slow taps and speed up the higher it goes. it's not easy. This for me is the hardest combo in the game (so far).
i agree. but it takes so much practice to master some of these other characters. i am a Ryu player and i wish i could use the other characters as well, but i'll need to dedicate hours and hours to learn how and when to use each move of another character. Looking forward to see some vids of high level Gen players.
Why doesn't the game explain what moves belong to what style. It's annoying! if it wasnt for this video i dont know if i would be able to do any of the challenges for Gen
In Hard Challenge 4, it's hard for me to link the second crouching light punch with the standing medium punch, THEN immediately linking that to the Zan'ei. Anyone have any advice at all?
You have to execute the first half of qcfx2 when you trhow the mid punch. It means you have to stand up from the crouch light punch with the first qcf. Its an old technique in SF games, most used in SSF2 Turbo. When you master this, it will be very easy to make the combo.
While you're mashing to get that special you gotta ,or HPbuffer the super (qcfx2LP,MP, HP) before mashing. The timing for buffering is easy, it's linking the MP that's a bit difficult.
For Oga falling kick, just hold "up" and when Gen is above opponent press "down". I'm stuck at final combo. Can't link Hyakurenko (fast punch) to Zan'ei (super combo). Any help ?

It's sad, you pull off such difficult combos that seem like they would be instant-K.O.
But other characters have 3-5 hit combos and even super combos that do just the same or even more damage.
Gen is very underpowered.

you basically do the command x2 or x3 while in the air.
dragon punch motion, follow up with kick, dragon punch motion, follow up with kick...you get the idea.

Gen is my new favorite character. He reminds me of Pai Mei too, especially in his white outfit.
He's so deadly, and great fun to play.

If you haven't received help yet, or haven't got it yourself, you have to kick in a kind of slow pace, and then for the last kicks, you have to double tap kick. It should be like six normal, then the double tap kick.

How the hell do you do that Oga drop (I think its called), where you press Down after touching the ceiling? I thought you had to charge down, then up + kick, but he only jumps off the wall.

for everyone having a problem with the gekiro (the flying kick) pay attention to how many kicks this guy did and literally count them out as he did, then just mimick the count when youre doing it

I'm stuckon the final trial. If you mash too much it doesn't work, but if you don't mash, the punches don't come out.

Not much, he was severly nerfed. His attacks were slowed, and crane c. lk doesn't launch as high, so you don't have time to see if it connected before doing your super.

He really is. I have a guy on my friends list that plays Gen, OMG. The guy is a such a beast with him I didn't even know what hit me. I have never ever seen Gen being played that well.

Finally did it, but honestly, it's not something I can repeat whenever I want, which is why people prefer to stick to the Ryu and Ken clones. Why bother spending hours and hours learning to get the hang of every complicated EX-canceled special or charge move ultra when I can just dragon punch my way through everything. >_>
*yes that was sarcasm, but I really hate Guile's super and specials. The motions for that are near impossible to get right in the middle of a fight.

Yeah, Guile's are bastard hard to do. I just stick with Blanka and similar charge type characters (Bison, Balrog, E.Honda, etc). Least I can do their moves.
Strangely I seem to have problems playing shotos; Damn double 90 degree spins!

I just roll back and forth. So i go D, DR, R, DR, D, DR, R. Means you never have to put the analogue stick back to the centre point

I can pull of guiles ultras quite easily in matches, but only if my opponent slips up and leaves themselves exposed. Even then though you can't always get the full connect. I think they need to tweak it really so it's more like Abel's or Sagats - the first barrage of attacks doing little damage but the last strike should do A LOT. Speaking of Ken, his special does way too much damage considering how easy it is to perform.

Foolish street fighter, a master Gen player is like a God when playing a random Ryu or Ken. Besides, you seem pretty normal, and normal people don't do that sort of thing anyway. Now Tournament players are a different breed, its all about being the cheapest bastard you can be, when it comes to street fighter. Which is why I'm not Tournament level. I prefer to win with honer and skill. Also I'd rather play and loose then spend hours practicing. But if you can do this then you'll be unstoppable.

try to keep dan's head at the same level as gen's throughout the gekiro. start with slow taps and speed up the higher it goes. it's not easy. This for me is the hardest combo in the game (so far).

yea just hit the kick button at a constant rate throughout the gekiro and you should get, it's really easy once you get the rythm

i agree. but it takes so much practice to master some of these other characters. i am a Ryu player and i wish i could use the other characters as well, but i'll need to dedicate hours and hours to learn how and when to use each move of another character. Looking forward to see some vids of high level Gen players.

You can check the names in the command list. Eventually you just know them.

In Hard Challenge 4, it's hard for me to link the second crouching light punch with the standing medium punch, THEN immediately linking that to the Zan'ei. Anyone have any advice at all?

You have to execute the first half of qcfx2 when you trhow the mid punch. It means you have to stand up from the crouch light punch with the first qcf. Its an old technique in SF games, most used in SSF2 Turbo. When you master this, it will be very easy to make the combo.

you can't link it, which was what i used to do.
(linking is when you hit them with a medium punch, they reel back a little, then super...CAN"T DO THAT!)
what you need to do is cancel it into the super.
while gen's punch is connecting, quickly input for super, and it SHOULD go straight to Zan'ei.
i only got it cuz i borrowed a stick...hard to do on controller, i know.

Yeah, you have to do something like:
d+lp, d+lp, df, f+mp, d, df+hp.
What I mean is that you need to do the first of the 2 90 degrees moves while still punching. Don't spam mp too fast because it has a slow timing.

While you're mashing to get that special you gotta ,or HPbuffer the super (qcfx2LP,MP, HP) before mashing. The timing for buffering is easy, it's linking the MP that's a bit difficult.

You must hold up and the direction you want to jump off the wall, then when your over the opponent push down.
