  • The WHA was beneficial to the NHL because it showed that there was more interest in Pro Hockey in North America. That the NHL was aware of.

  • I loved Dick Beddows . He used to call them the Toronto Lawn Mowers.

  • love the game and the impact the wha played the reasone howe richard bellaveau etc went? years of being screwed over by nhl owners.... but i think it has swung too far over to the players now...thanks for posting...

  • The shots of the Alberta Oilers (as they were called back then) were taken from the first regular season game against the Ottawa nationals at the Ottawa Civic Centre. I was there that night-the game was scheduled opposite the Leafs vs Montreal...they wondered why only 4,000 people showed up! The Nationals were coached by the late Billy Harris-they were very short on talent but made the playoffs-which they played in Toronto (becoming the Toros the next year).

  • It is from a 2006 CBC documentary mini-series called "HOCKEY: A People's History"
