It is not unusual to do chi sao while seated. Confinement is simulated. Wing Chun style is best at close combat, if the practitioners are so trained. In this exercise, you are compelled to dominate the centerline without shoving at the opponent. Dominance is subtle and may seem to be going "left and right" to some. Sifu Fong is the top student of Ho Kam Ming, one of the scientist/theoretician in the wing chun lineages. This type of exercises is not incidental but an advancement of the style.
That's why the Wing Chun/Tsun/Tzun people are so spread and not united like brothers of the same martial art system. Because there're so many EGO in the different styles and interpretations of the art. At the end, Sifu Fong is one of the best WCh teachers I ever saw although he do his chi sao seatted.
I love it when people critisize masters of wing chun and act like they know more than the authorities on the art. You will never has as much kung fu as sifu fong, "wingchunlearner" so stop acting like you know so much

It is simple!!!!!!! Being a Chinese, learning from a famous Chinese master, I think I know quite much, if not, at least, more than you do.

it does not matter whether chisao is seated or not; it is the application of it. if you can do it seated,you can do it standing.
