  • According to Bragg, on the 8/1/2011 broadcast of "Democracy Now!" (SEGMENT AVAILABLE ON YOUTUBE, UPLOADED BY D.N. THEMSELVES!!!), the TITLE is inspired by the Joe Hill song, but the tune comes from an old American song "Battle Cry of Freedom" which, in turn, takes it's tune from an old English hymn.

  • Hey! I love this song!!

  • This version was penned by Billy Bragg

  • Ah go easy on 'em. Yeah it's vital to know your history. But labor shouldn't divide itself over who's a 'poser' or not. Their hearts are in the right place.

  • if u dont know the original singer of the song u play go back to yer bedroom and read a book... u posers

  • Billy Bragg's version is tremendous and it was the BEST thing around during the Miner's Strike in the UK in the 80s but he'd be the first to say it's not his song: it come from Union organizer, Christian Anarchist, and all round real American, Joe Hill, go to wikipedia and look him up... he truly rocks!

  • @TheGrumpytroll Joe Hill "all round real American" was, as far as I know ,Swedish :) but a great guy all the same.

  • Try listening This song was written by Joe Hill, and there are versions by Billy Bragg, Utah Phillips, Street Dogs and many more.

  • "This next song... ah it's a good Street Dogs song..."

Fuck these guys. They need to die.

  • None of you are right. This song was written by Joe Hill in the early century. Its a song from the IWW's little red songbook. But both billy bragg and utah phillips and lots of others have done versions of it.

  • No, Joe Hill's and Utah Phillips' versions are a different song with the same title.

  • this isnt a street dogs song...its by billy bragg...still nice cover of a cover...where are you guy from?

  • The Street Dogs are one of the most amazing bands.
