THe downside with all these so-called "asset trackers" is that they assume you are able to retrieve the device in order to check what it's logged.

How does this help you if it's in your car, and your car is stolen? You can't get the device back to track anything.

The device NEEDS to be able to "call home" and transmit it's location from a remote location otherwise it's pointless as a true 'asset tracker'.

I don't understand you. As far as I know you turn on the device and hide it. You can monitor the location via internet without any other access to the device.
