Three Dog night without Chuck Negron is a shadow. Negron is sober and doing well..an amazing story of redemption for a man who had fallen to the depths of despair.. 3DN at the time was terrific..even with all the drugs
I would Love to see these guys settle their differences and do just 1 more tour together as THREE DOG NIGHT....... They would pack-em in. It would make world history.
Three dog night were my first concert that i attended and it was also there first time close enough to see them and it was an awesome concert in 1973 and outdoors on a clear night in July and i will never forget it!!Sugarloaf opened the show and as they were almost done a helicopter flew in with three dog night aboard and they hopped out and started getting ready for their show...a very fantastic night that was:-)
I saw these guys at Western Springs Stadium, Auckland ,New Zealand in 71 along with Guess Who. it was a pity i was only 13 and didn't quite know them that well. In fact i spent most of the night trying to break into the venue through a fence. I was looking forward to seeing them in Melbourne, Australia last month but the concert was cancelled. Maybe they'll try again.
your very awesome Three Dog Night compilation of the day. you'd think it was Halloween since the drummer is a vampire, however, it's not and he is, indeed, the only one dressed in costume. as for the other guys- wearing those pimp shirts, rayon pants (complete with male camel toe), mustaches, and feathered hair are not considered costumes. lastly, this band proves you can never have too many frontmen! (p.s. hit the 5:28 mark for the monkey dance guy in the audience)
Although it is hard to imagine it, 3Dog Night was the best group I ever saw live.
I got to see Buffalo Springfield, Byrds, Led Zep and a lot more. They did not do concerts they had parties. They sang better than any recording and the band
was just unreal. On a scale of 1 to 10 this video is a 4! Sadly no recording exists
of them at their best. Their impact has been lost without a trace!
Wow, I think the compilation is very cool. Haven't thought about these guys in so long, but connected with an old musician friend who brought up memories. Chuck Negron's voice and rest of the band had a wonderful kismet, for the time it lasted.
I love it. The transitions are very smooth, and the song selections are excellent. You can never go wrong with Three Dog Night. Video quality is also amazing, sound and everything.
Hey dimpledick...take your 3 inches and your vulgarity off this thread. No one needs or wants your first grade comments here. Leave it for those who have an IQ higher than 0 and can come up with an intelligent thought.
If I am thinking correctly, Chuck is the one with the mustache. I'm only 20, I didn't know the band when they were first starting so I couldn't tell you. But I heard that he is no longer with them because he had such a bad drug addiction that it would sometimes cause them to have to cancle shows.
That all may be true, but Chuck Negron is clean and sober and his solo career is going very well. He has a legion of devoted fans and he has also gained a reputation for being an excellent writer with Three Dog Nightmare: The continuing Chuck Negron story.
At 20 years old Sophia, you will probably find Chucks music awesome as it transends to people of all ages.
yup, that's Chuck with the 'stash...and he sang lead on a lot of songs...Chuck had a hard time with addiction to heroin which provided lots of problems for the band. He kicked the addiction in '91. That's nasty stuff...so glad it didn't kill him!
I grew up when they first released the first album in Calif circa 1968. All the songs have been great. Quit the bichtin' and listen to the music; it's archive! ssdewayne
Does Chuck Negron have the Wizard in his band? If not, what on earth are you talking about? Shouldn't you be defending the Wizard if anything needs defending here?
This is a "Three Dog Night" video from 1975. You believe that comments about a keyboard player's look or the disco era back up band is somehow related only to Chuck Negron? Good grief.
the wizards name is Skip Konte, I believe, am not sure. If you were a fan of friend of Chucks you wouldnt be so rude and critical of him. The truth is that I really DONT care and am gonna ask for comments to be disabled cause your annoying me.
Yeah, I am making it up that their last album contained no hits and their second to the last had only one hit that squeaked into the top 40. This isn't opinion, it's fact. My opinion is that the wizard was a bad idea. In hindsight it's laughable. If the '50's segment was as misguided as the wizard added to the fact that the hits had ended, it was time to put a fork in it.
Seems like you always have to have the last word on this site so respond and I will let you have it. But in my opinion and the opinion of memebers of this group (by their own words) you are dead wrong.
1975's Coming Down You Way had only one hit single and it peaked at #32. 1976's American Pastime had no hit singles. They faded out because of lack of hit singles and lack of album sales. They lost their identity. American Pastime was produced by a disco producer. Put the wizard, a '50's segment and disco together and you have a great band that lost their way for whatever reason.
The bit amounted to 20 minutes of their 2 hour + show, hardly a variety act. You have your right to your opinion but it is certainly not the opinion of millions of their fans. They didn't fade out in 1975 due to lack of credibility, it was for the reasons I previously stated and in Cory Well's own words: In 1975, however, the rigors of non-stop roadwork caught up with the group. "We became disenchanted," Wells would later say, "We just quietly backed out of the picture.
I can see the look of the wizard in this clip. I guess if their idea was to try and leave their powerful rock music roots and be some kind of variety show type act, a '50's segment would do the trick to drain any credibility the band had by 1975. The Eagles added Joe Walsh. Three Dog Night added The Wizard. The wizard would have been great for Yes, but odd for Three Dog Night. A '50's segment would be odd for any rock band in the '70's.
Yes they had a '50's bit and it was very entertaining. A couple of the band members came from "doo-wop" groups so why not have a '50's segment? If you never had the opportunity to see it why knock it? I don't believe the hits ended, I believe band members were being lost left and right to drugs, alcohol and exhaustion. As were many during that era.
Maybe because it was 1975??? Skip, the keyboardist dressed this way to play a character, "The Wizard" and did a long solo while the guys changed into costumes for their "50's segment. This band was one of the greatest in sound and performance of all time.
The songs are too fast, the keyboard player's costume is embarrassing and some of the guys in the band look like they are from a disco/bar band. A far cry from 1969.
I just read chuck negrons autobiography. its such a depressing story. ill bet anything that chuck and danny were stoned while performing this. such a shame that he lost 30 years to drugs.
Chuck made a bad choice but he came through it and he has paid a heavy price. Without all 3 the group isn't a whole. Is it true time heals all wounds. This group needs to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I want to see the group back together again.
You lose all your credibility when you say things like "those other characters in Two Dog Night". Your problem is you feel the need to say bad things about others in reference to Chuck Negron doing something you feel is good. That makes your point look very petty and weak.
If Three Dog Night goes on stage tomorrow and sings Happy Birthday over and over again and are booed off the stage, Chuck Negron does not become any more successful.
Chuck Negron had an illness that took a huge toll on him or else he would have been probably more successful than the people you have named.
Three Dog Night is just a "nostalgia" band at this point. Chuck Negron has new material under his belt. He is in the process of recording an album "Sounds of Philly" should be coming up soon and worth listening to. Chuck Negron also has a musical due out in 2010--"I was my son, my son is me". So, the future looks bright for Chuck Negron!!
I have never commented about Chuck Negron's ability as a singer or performer. I have seen him perform live and he is good. No question. I am just commenting on all the silly hot air about Chuck Negron carrying the band or other nonsense. If he was the "brains" and "voice" behind the band, you would think he would have had same success as a solo artist as Peter Cetera, Michael McDonald, Steve Perry did and more. Three Dog Night is a band that was and still is about the sum of the parts.
yes, Michael Alsup is still playing guitar.Joel Schermie ( bass) passed away several years ago, and Floyd Snead( drummer) occasianally playes with Chuck Negron
sometimes you can't go back and I feel they were at their best in these, just wondering Traderfiles if you had come across a video of Cory singing Easy Evil
It's not really fair to say that Chuck "owes" anyone a reunion! Danny and Corey aren't even in Chuck's league. Actually, Chuck is in a league of his own since he is the best in the business. A reunion would make lots of people happy, but Chuck's succesful solo career will continue with or without one. He is more succesful alone than the other two put together. He "owes" nothing! Perhaps one day, Danny and Corey will have the priveledge of working with Chuck Negron again!
I didn't say Chuck "owed" anyone anything. Did you read his book? Chuck was all for getting back together and it was Corey that stopped it every time. I agree they are nothing without Chuck. I don't know how Chuck feels now but up until the writing of his book he very much wanted TDN to reunite.
To traderfiles, who posted this video, Chuck still sings better than ever! Just saw Cory & Danny in concert a couple of weeks ago and they acted like they were in agony performing. They need to swallow their pride, not worry about control, let by-gones be by-gones and do a reunion tour. They owe that to 40 year die hard fans. Cory and Danny have a site so anyone interested in a reunion start emailing and voicing your opinions.
From what I have read on various TDN sites in the Internet, Danny Hutton is willing to let Chuck Negron back in the group. Cory is the one with problems about it. I don't know if it's for the reason you all have said or not. They were sure a gerat group though.
Without Chuck Negron it's not the same.. Just like Jopurney isn't the same without Steve Perry. The original voice is what made them what they were.Good to see these old clips, miss the original line up.
Now , THIS is music.....Really wish these guys could get back together....Like it or not , they are all part of each others lives!....It would be a major draw !
saw them last night. very good show! always enjoyed their music and the show was better than I expected?? reason is they still sound incredible for 67 yr. olds! what the tiff w/ chuck?
I saw them in 1970 at UK and this video is for show because Chuck sang 90% lead and here he's trading off letting Danny & Corey sing lead. Corey did have the ego in the group
I think there are possibly two sides to the band's split issue with Chuck Negron- and it may not be completely Negron's fault he's not with the band anymore. It's said Cory Wells has an enormous ego issue & hogs the spotlight more than Danny Hutton. Perhaps in Three Dog Night "twos company- three's a crowd"?
Would be really great if Danny Hutton & Cory Wells would patch up past "issues" with Chuck Negron and have him back on tour with them. I keep thinking anything's possible!
I seen Chuck and his band last night in Arizona. played all the hits for an hour and a half and sounded clear and good. his voice was very strong but after the concert he didnt sign autographs because he had a hard time breathing after it was over but man was it a good concert :)
Just saw them last night in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I wish the band would let Chuck back in. He's clean and sober and he clearly had the best voice of the three singers. He's also a very animated lead singer. He's quite the showman. I think the band shied away from some of his songs last night and didn't sing them. They didn't sing The Show Must Go On or Pieces Of April. That's too bad. Chuck back in the band would be a major draw! Great concert, however.
They all had issues. Danny wanted to get back with Chuck in the 80s and Corey said no. Corey didn't come off very well in Chuck's book. It sure isn't because Chuck can't sing. We saw him with the BST cover band he formed and he was GREAT!
There was no other group like THREE DOG NIGHT ... three great lead singers, and songs that were so damn fun and different in the music of their day.
Danny and Corey keep the act going now, over 30 years later (they were here just last week). Great nostalgia -- but no Chuck -- what a shame he screwed himself out of the group ... just glad for all he put himself through, he's still with us ...
Wow Greaaaat Voices! I've been a fan since I was 13 years old. Have not stopped seeing them since, Next visit Orange County Fair August 9 , Go see them you'll come out of the concert singing all the songs!!!!
in 1820 a man named fred oslof one day he was working wen a ghost came by and killed him in his lab 100 years later 2 boys went in as a dare they were also never seen again possibly murdered now that u read this the boys and fred will kill u 2nite unless u send this post 5 time b4 midnite i really dont like posting these but i dont wanna die :'(
The only song I can think of is 'Guinnevere' from the Crosby, Stills and Nash first album? Type it in here at youtube and see if that's the one you wanted...
They look sleek w/ their fabulous shag hair styles and jean trouser legs 4" longer to cover their platform shoes, very sleek, very polished, very musical!
Jimmy Greenspoon, original member, plays organ and piano.
Skip Conte dressed up and played the Charmberlin. "The Show Must Go On" was a statement about the nature of their schedule, being pushed by managers, sometimes a different city every day and two albums a year. I don't really know why Skip dressed up, but he entertained the audience sometimes so the other guys could put on 50s costumes for an act to add something different. Chuck and Cory did 50s music in New York when they were kids.
I still have this "45 of 'The Show Must Go On'. What an incredible tune from my childhood.... 1974..... 1st grade!!!! I will never forget "Shambala" as my family cruised home in our Chevy Impala..... The best times EVER!!!!
Remember going to Gemco/Zody's(lol)searching for golden bisquits when I was about 6/7, along with CK's Tapestry. Found it , and mom and dad were none to pleased when they saw the nude dogs on the foldout. But mom and dad came to like their music too. LOL
I just dont think the lyrical and melodic quality is as good as it was back in the previous decades.
I saw them when all the original members reunited in 1981 and they were great. Saw them again in 1983 with stand-ins for Allsup and Shermie and they were still great. I saw them in 1987 minus Negron and with some pukey primadona guitar player who was trying hard to sound like Eddie Van Halen doing awful, extended, drawn-out, boring solos in all their great hits. The drummer they had at that show stunk too. It was very sad seeing what had happened to a great band. Hope they're better now.
The book regarding Chuck's drug problems,etc...is called THREE DOG NIGHTMARE.He had a rough life until he straightened out-I had the honer of meeting/talking tohim years ago in Canada
who was that guy shown near the beginning of these clips? ... looked like he was playing keyboards but also was dressed like he was at a costumn party... and no one else was... lol.
Still love this group after all these years though :).
I think it's called "stoned", watch him @ the end of Shambala! It's ironic that Chuck appears to be in better shape, and sounds much better by far .But still these are great to watch.
I had the same question about ziggy youtube's complete song videos. Eli's Coming alone was over 8 minutes long. Excellent sound quality too. I watched them for weeks but now they're gone. Where did you go ziggy?
The fantastic band from the 60's & 70's, Three Dog Night. What a band, all the hits, selling out stadiums. They were my chidhood rock 101 and they did an awesome job, bcause I still love today and appreciate all of they're accomplishments.
What happened to the individual videos of the songs performed during this show??? They were here a couple of weeks ago. I'm particularly interested in the Cory Wells performance of Eli's Comin'...can whoever posted these put them back???
Thanks for sharing this video. This was a great band and they had so many hits, they hand picked songs from basically unknown writers, who became well known basically because of the popularity given to them by Three Dog night. Also the list of artists and bands that performed before them is quite amazing too. Fantastic band with consecutive hits. Thanks for the many years of pleasure and entertainment you brought.
Three Dog night without Chuck Negron is a shadow. Negron is sober and doing well..an amazing story of redemption for a man who had fallen to the depths of despair.. 3DN at the time was terrific..even with all the drugs

The wizard is fine and so is the tribute to the 50s, when these guys were kids.
If you recall, 50s nostalgia was real big in the mid-70s with AMERICAN GRAFFITI and the HAPPY DAYS TV show, so this certainly is in context

The first song you can see Chuck singing lead. As I understand he was kind of kicked out because of a drug addiction.
But lucky for him he didn't miss out on much since so much faggotry was going on behind the scenes. I mean, seriously, check out the organ player.

which one is Chuck (which song is he the lead on) and why is he no longer with them? Did the group have a falling out and split up ?
If they split up was it because of artistic differences, money, ego or what ?

Those 90 million records wouldn't be part of nostalgia would they?
Calling someone a "character" is only "bad" when it's set in a defensive context as yours was.
You may notice that ALL members contributed to the record sales. Which brings the discussion back to the beginning.
Thank you for making my point!

Considering that Flashback and Hippiefest were 100% "nostalgia" tours, your statement is very curious.
Chuck Negron Formerly of Three Dog Night bills himself as singing Three Dog Night's hits. Youtube is full of Chuck singing Three Dog Night songs.
You can say he "probably" would have done this or that, but the fact remains that he didn't.

What does Three Dog Night bring to the table?
The Table.

Three Dog Night is a band that was and still is about the sum of the parts.
egghd1 2 years ago
What would Chuck bring to the table if he was back in the band after all these years?
The Flashback Tour was cancelled because they sold no tickets
Hippiefest tickets sold very poorly.

Are any of the musicians in this band from the original lineup other than Jimmy Greenspoon? There are some whacky posts in this thread.

yes, Michael Alsup is still playing guitar.Joel Schermie ( bass) passed away several years ago, and Floyd Snead( drummer) occasianally playes with Chuck Negron

Thanks to Traderfiles for this Great Video,
sometimes you can't go back and I feel they were at their best in these, just wondering Traderfiles if you had come across a video of Cory singing Easy Evil
which is one of my favourites. All the Best Vee.

Nina2560 2 years ago

Cory and Danny have a site so anyone interested in a reunion start emailing and voicing your opinions.
donmarrone 2 years ago
From what I have read on various TDN sites in the Internet, Danny Hutton is willing to let Chuck Negron back in the group. Cory is the one with problems about it. I don't know if it's for the reason you all have said or not. They were sure a gerat group though.

AMAZING group.. Amazing music.

Without Chuck Negron it's not the same.. Just like Jopurney isn't the same without Steve Perry. The original voice is what made them what they were.Good to see these old clips, miss the original line up.

Now , THIS is music.....Really wish these guys could get back together....Like it or not , they are all part of each others lives!....It would be a major draw !

saw them last night. very good show! always enjoyed their music and the show was better than I expected?? reason is they still sound incredible for 67 yr. olds! what the tiff w/ chuck?
lonz46 2 years ago
I saw them in 1970 at UK and this video is for show because Chuck sang 90% lead and here he's trading off letting Danny & Corey sing lead. Corey did have the ego in the group
kking3287 2 years ago
I think there are possibly two sides to the band's split issue with Chuck Negron- and it may not be completely Negron's fault he's not with the band anymore. It's said Cory Wells has an enormous ego issue & hogs the spotlight more than Danny Hutton. Perhaps in Three Dog Night "twos company- three's a crowd"?
gemini16th 2 years ago
Would be really great if Danny Hutton & Cory Wells would patch up past "issues" with Chuck Negron and have him back on tour with them. I keep thinking anything's possible!

I seen Chuck and his band last night in Arizona. played all the hits for an hour and a half and sounded clear and good. his voice was very strong but after the concert he didnt sign autographs because he had a hard time breathing after it was over but man was it a good concert :)
JackPerp 2 years ago
Just saw them last night in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I wish the band would let Chuck back in. He's clean and sober and he clearly had the best voice of the three singers. He's also a very animated lead singer. He's quite the showman. I think the band shied away from some of his songs last night and didn't sing them. They didn't sing The Show Must Go On or Pieces Of April. That's too bad. Chuck back in the band would be a major draw! Great concert, however.

Oh dear, yeah Chuck is the victim. Being a junkie for a couple decades probably had nothing to do with his dismissal.
tommytex2007 2 years ago
They all had issues. Danny wanted to get back with Chuck in the 80s and Corey said no. Corey didn't come off very well in Chuck's book. It sure isn't because Chuck can't sing. We saw him with the BST cover band he formed and he was GREAT!
jmacleve 2 years ago
"Corey didn't come off very well in Chuck's book".
Imagine that.
tommytex2007 2 years ago
There was no other group like THREE DOG NIGHT ... three great lead singers, and songs that were so damn fun and different in the music of their day.
Danny and Corey keep the act going now, over 30 years later (they were here just last week). Great nostalgia -- but no Chuck -- what a shame he screwed himself out of the group ... just glad for all he put himself through, he's still with us ...
