My high school orchestra played this last year for state auditions and it was so much fun. i love creepy songs like this, they are always a blast to play.
btw, mao asada's sp is just breathtaking. :) although it is a bit overwhelming for her. I heard that Tarasova was to use this music for Kwan but she retired. Kwan, masquerade...goddddd....i can't imagine how magnificent that would be!
Saw the female Ice skater rom Japan at the Olymics skating tothis music... had to find out what it was... so mezmerizing... sounds like the sound of beautiful madness approachiing... I think the Japanese skater should have had top scores BTW... lol
The waltz is of course a peach to make your mouth water , but particularly: this recording / uploading is of extraordinary quality, lovely deep bass on my Mac, no metallic sound.
My high school orchestra is doing this song! After the first time I heard this I loved it and couldn't wait to get it perfected! I play the 1st violin [A] part, and it's extremely fun.
If you want this and 14 other all-time favorite Russian ballet highlights they're all to be found on "Ballet Russes" . A Virgin Classic CD conducted by Paavo Jarvi. As bigluca66 says if you like this you'll love Shostakovich's Jazz Suite Waltz No. 2. It also has the only version of "Dance of the Nights" where you can distinguish all of Prokofiev's minute changes to trombone notes throughout the omnipresent pounding bass background. Which never palls - even after a thousand hearings.
what kind of waltz would go with this, though? lol it'd have to be a really fast one... or does like one waltz work for every waltz song? erm... humm... well anyway i don't know much about waltzing DON'T KILL ME! AHHH
by all means, you should dance this waltz at your wedding. It is beautiful... every time I hear I have to dance... it is absolutely divine, you will remember it forever
When i hear this piece I think of a king who is watching people dance, while people are getting in position to assassinate him. Why assassination i don't know but it seemed like it fit the mood:)
here in chihuahua's orchesta i was playing the entire suite but ith the alert of that dammed flu (or whatever) i cant go out of my on house to the music school (dammit chinese pigs)
Thank you. I'd forgotten how nice this piece is. Believe I first heard as a child near the Seattle Space Needle (music accompanied synchronized water fountains) - wonder if that is still there?
Don't know about this recording. In 1975 (or 76?) I went to K's concert in Albert Hall, London with LSO. EMI/HMV recorded and released some of his works around that time. It is probably among the best that there is. "K conducting K". It doesn't get much more original than that.
we're using this for a ballet at my ballet school. It very captivating to dance to. You really want to throw yourself in the movement and exaggerate (spelled that wrong) everyting. Its perfect for what we're doing. its a circus kind of thing.
It reminds me of the sublime decadence of Tsarist Russia, however, it written in 1944 by Aram Il'yich Khachaturian, who is probably more famous for his ballet 'Spartacus' (the main theme better known to those from the UK as the theme tune to the 'Onedin Line'), written in 1956.
I played this piece in an orchestra at a music camp, you have no idea how amazing it feels to be play this piece... It moves you, and you can feel it.
when i hear this i think of think of 2 ppl of royal decendence(european) who come from 2 totaly opposite families coming together to dance in a ballroom whilst everybody watches
Whyyyyy does this remind me of a dark and passionate waltz between Mortisha and Gomez Addams?
