well the explanation is quite simple the balls just exert forces to eachother and they just pass it on to the other balls and since the outer balls have nother to exert the force to they go outwards
Perpetual motion devices are not possible at present - the friction between the balls, the string and even the friction in the air will cause them to stop.
I doubt perpetual motion will ever be possible - and if they will be, they won't be of much use.
but perpetual motion is but a theory. i doubt we'll ever get perpetual motion on Earth. and blastburn19 missed out one more thing, which is the kinetic energy of the balls being lost as sound energy.
but all that said, that was a pretty good newton's cradle.
Actually I'm simply inferring that the very concept of drawing energy from the system requires energy to be put in and so no, it would not solve the world's energy problems.
we will never have perpetual motion. the third law of thermodynamics states that some energy is always lost, no matter what, and eventually all motion stops. it's a law.
My brother was hit in the head by a baseball two years ago. Since that moment, he has had the delusion that he's Einstein. He has devoured every text on mathematics and physics he could find.
Meanwhile, my sister was hit in the head last week with a Maltese Bippy, and now she thinks she's Liberace.
My dog is very smart and helps me with my algebra. His name is Bürschle.
I asked him about Newton's Cradle, and he said that it has something to do with the conservation of mass and energy.
When I was hit on the head with a cricket ball (I was 12) it cleared the delusion I was having that I was Albert Sweitzer. Since then I've worked hard all my life to become a baby-sitter so I can 'rock the cradle', I've only just found out that Newtons cradle doesn't ahve any babies in it, it is in fact Newtons Swing. He didn't use this term because of the wife-swapping associations it has.
lo tune - omg - :O - translated - input output - to un-use-newton's-engine - this has me wondering, if I'm in Des Moines, is it Thursday? I'd love a ring-ding. Dee-wop-do-wop.
Newton's balls are fascinating to me.

The theroy is Newtons third law, "If object A excerts a force on object B, then object B excerts and equal but oppisite force on object A."

if you are saying that if perpetual motion is completely pointless, and have no uses, you are about as far away from the truth you could get.
It would have no end of uses, from solving the world's energy problems to who knows what - but one thing is profound ; perpetual motion is a big deal

Seriously, I love physics and math.
