Verhofstadt... The man who sold Belgium to the EU and only kept bits and bobs of its industry under some obscure holding in Luxembourg... A great man to trust to destroy something.
If the UK ever gets a politician more capable than guy verhofstadt ... they will be lucky... The time the UK realises they are no longer the world power they always thought they were ... the better!
@nombril27 "I hope Scotland and Wales will be independant very soon" Me too, well not so much Wales, but Scotland yes please.
Herr Verhofstadt has absolutaly right! If Britain want to stay out Europe, than get out all of the british companies from the European Union's single and free market and then millions of bristish workers will be sacked those who r depending on the European economy, good idea. Euroscepticism is the biggest foe of the Western civilization and UK too.
if I ever meet this guy in real life I hope I have a really really good day ....And I'm a dane. If you piss on the majesty you piss on people.. But can you expect anything else from this slimebag
@arna11420 banks are not national anymore. Banks are international and interdependent. Europes economies would die if it lost the money that London and the UK brings to europe. Forbidding banks to trade in the city would be like chopping off your own legs.
No it wouldn't. That money can come directly, without the middleman. Why would the EU countries be forced to outsource financial services to the UK? Are there no stock markets on the Continent?
@arna11420 If that money could come "without the middleman", then why the hell does it not already??? If it as simple as you put it, then how come it is not the way you put it by now??Financial services are outsourced to the UK because it is what the UK does better than other EU countries. Germans are great with engineering, and the Brits are great with financial services. If only the EU had listened to the UK when they were warning about the issues with the euro we are seeing today.
@EUrealitycheck1 The money comes thru City because it's the most profitable route at the moment. If it were not, it would find another way. The first priority of UK's government IS City, there's no doubt about it. Saying that EU officials are unelected is like saying that you don't want MPs from Manchester deciding your laws because you live in London and you didn't elect them. Someone did. Living together means making decisions together. BTW, I think UK should leave EU too.
@arna11420 " like saying that you don't want MPs from Manchester deciding your laws because you live in London"
LOL, so you beleive that van rompuy has same democratic legitimacy to govern over somebody from manchester as david cameron does just because cameron's office is in london? ur argument is flawed coz cameron governs over his country including manchester as an ellected pollitician, whereas unnellected officials like barrosso and rompuy have no country or ellectorate to govern over.
@EUrealitycheck1 You're twisting my words, my example was of a MP from Manchester deciding laws that are applied on London too. Even in UK, where ministers really are elected, most other officials are not, they're appointed. All top EU officials are appointed by democratically elected governments of the member states. Most of the officials that hold the real executive power in any country are not elected, but appointed, like directors of agencies and central banks.
@arna11420 I dont know why you choose to continue with your flawed argument when you know very well that the EU is greatly lacking a democratic mandate. You know very well that there is a huge democratic void in this EU. And you know that i know that you know. Many other EU federalists are now just being honest and admitting it because its all very plain and easy to see. It would be better for you to just admit that in order to get your federal EU, democracy must be stripped from the EU
@arna11420 If the EU had a true democratic mandate, then why have referendums on the issue now become a no no? And you said
"Saying that EU officials are unelected is like saying that you don't want MPs from Manchester deciding your laws because you live in London and you didn't elect them"
And my reply to you was saying that Manchester and London are part of the same country with mps ellected within that country by the population. EU commissioners are not ellected by the population
@arna11420 Your comparison of elected vs apointed officials is not valid. In Britain those who are elected make the apointments and the apointed are subserviant to the elected, so there is a democratic process that can be followed top to bottom. In the EU, the ones making apointements are those who have already been apointed whilst the elected are the subservient ones. Result, the European Commission is an autonomous unlelected group who do not answer to any democratic process. That's criminal.
@arna11420 I too beleive thay should leave. I also wish my country would leave too. This EU is too inward looking to best serve the interests of global trading nations. Too much regulation, too much interference. It has been thee EUs mission to weaken all the individual nations in europe in order to cause them to believe that they need a EU state to govern over them. There is not any other block of nations in the world forcing countries to give up sovereignty for their own good.
@arna11420 Do you think that financial services from european countries source in the UK to benefit the UK? No, they source to the UK to benefit themselves by exploiting the talent in the UK. And you say "English government does not care about the English taxpayers." Then tell me why you think UK government cares any less for their citizens than any other country in the world. Why would UK government not care and any other country, say, Germany or Italy care? What is different with UK?
I am not English but I've got to admit that the English government at least stands up for its people in one question: no more money or financial transaction taxes for the maniacs in the EU. Maniacs like Verhofstadt knew what kind of financial state Greece was in, but they didn't mind. After all, their dream is some kind of a Hitler or Napoleon inspired greater Europe run by either Brussels or Berlin. Europe is a continent, not a country. Mr Guy, reckon that and you'll spare us serious headache.
@TiberiusBracchus Don't be fooled, English government does not care about the English taxpayers, only about the liberty of the City to do what ever it wants. Deregulation of financial markets by Thatcher and Reagan set course for the crisis we are in now. Greece was protected from proper financial control because that was though of as interference of EU in domestic policy, and that was exactly what Greece needed.
@arna11420 By rejecting the treaty, the UK has ensured that they keep democratic sovereignty and control of their own affairs, which is how it should be. The treaty plan is to fine and punish any countries which do not be assimilated to dictates from unnellected EU officials. Any countries signing up to the treaty are agreeing to hand over their democratic sovereignty to these unellected officials. And are agreeing to be punished for not being able to meet the dictates of these beaurucrats
@arna11420 Greek financial policy is not a business of the EU. In fact, monetary policy shouldn't be an EU issue either. Why on earth should UK, or any other EU member state for that matter, pay up for Greek idiocy? Why should I as a tax payer in Scandinavia be bothered with Greek corruption and mal-governence? International cooperation? Sure! Perverted EU super-state building? Hell no.
@TiberiusBracchus You're right, nobody should pay for Greek misbehavings. But the problem is not Greece, but Eurozone formed without real control of its members. If real control was there from the start, all this Greek business would've probably never happened.
@arna11420 And quite frankly, if one assumes that the English government does not care for the English people, do you truly believe that Verhofstadt has the best in mind for the Britons? I doubt it. :) Actually, he seems quite pesky towards the good old English people. :P
@arna11420 Just like TiberiusBracchus, i am not British, but we all have to admit that the Brits were right about the problem with creating a common currency for economies as different as Greece and Germany. It cannot work unless democracy and sovereignty is removed from europe just as we have seen with the removal of berlusconi and papandreaos.
@arna11420 Yes my reply was intentionally dumb, because i used it to reply to the dumbest comment i ever heard on you tube which you made. You say we are wining when all we want to do is maintain control over our own currency, budget etc.the only people who are wining are those who complain that Britain didn't sign the treaty of loss of democracy and control over our affairs.
I really like the comments on this wall, cursing on belgian politician. You don't even not know the situation, and just because you are to afraid to change, you isolate yourself on your little Island, call UK! Hello, the world count 7 billion habitants and you think that with the power of USA and with the soaring power of China the UK will still have his voice? Or will still follow its friend USA? True democracy does not exist but respecting each other is at least what human being should do.
@thibautvdh I agree with some of what you say. It is not helping matters making comments relating to his nationality.
However I have to say I find his comments and the way he presents his arguments as abhorrent. The great thing about Europe is the diversity and cultural richness - this parliament makes a joke out of all of Europe. I'd like it shutdown and replaced with national governments, afterall there is nothing wrong with nations.
Verhofstadt, the arrogant kosmopolist who sold 90% of Belgians governement buildings to private banks and then hire it back for millions of euro,s. That guy is even worse then the ultra rich assholes of Wall Street. Down with this Bilderberger puppet....
Guy Verhofstadt, don't forget the even greater savings we can make by pulling out of the EU project all together... Your salary and tax free expenses, the lavish sauna's, jobs for the boys and the whole corrupt gravy train.
And will Europe collapse or receed back into nationalism and war? All the wars in Europe in the last 200 years were caused by politicians who had grown too big for their boots. So, roll on democracy and bye bye political dinosaurs...
This dick-head Verhofstad forgot to mention that Fuhrer Von Rompuy earns twice what Obama makes as President of the US. The filling of his political friends pockets with our tax-money, does not seem to bother him at all.
Wow. Just wow. I may not be a European, but I know that insulting one's way of living is insulting. I hear that most Brits like the Queen( if Im wrong Im sorry). Anyways, Im seeing that Mr. Farage isn't there. I see so all of these guys like to talk all that shit while he's away. I bet if he was there then they wouldn't be talking all that good shit.
At about 1.36 he gives the game away - "It is time to say to the public opinion" - i.e. We tell you, you don't tell us.
If we want to make savings in the public sector, the best way is to with get out of the EU and let them turn it into a dishevelled socialist crap hole.
This fool is so used to having other countries control his currency and foreign policy that he literally can't see how rediculous this rant of his sounds to countries who do control their own currency and foreign policy. And his country hasn't even had a government for over a year and yet he is trying to tell other countries how to run their affairs? What a dick! Belgium is in such a mess now because of him and his euro finatic policies that he pushed as Belgium's prime minister.
@PierreRMB Furthermore, the more dangerous thing this guy is saying, is that the UK should give up pretty much al its soveriegnty and give it to him and his colleagues. It amaizes me that he nonsensically thinks that his mindless rant and attack on Britain and Britain's soveriegnty is the right method of making the UK see things from his point of view. But hey, what can i say, psychopaths dont exactly have common sense.
@EUrealitycheck1 The fact that he insults the Queen of England is not smart of him. Already a majority of the people from the UK are euroskeptics; his provocation to the Queen and the British soveriegnty just makes things worst. I consider myself to be a federalist, but unlike him, I respect monarchy and honor. It is a shame that he went that far, to fast. What he said was too much, but in a multinational democracy like the EU, it was certainly conserning for him to have a queen giving requests.
@EUrealitycheck1 I don't work for the EU, so I cannot apologies for them. But as a Federalist, I apologies for having a fool like him to share a common title as mine. Even if I wish of a federal Europe, I don't wish for the end of royalty.
I give my best regards to you and to Great Britain.
@PierreRMB This guys not making a case against monarchy, hes just using the term 'her majesty's government' 2 try & cause controvercy in an attempt to get as much airtime as nigel farage, & while in the process is also insulting & enraging the Brits. In any case, his own country of Belgium is a monarchy too as are many other European countries so it would be a bit of an own goal for him to be making a case against monarchy. 11 other EU countries are also not happy with an EU budget increase.
WTF? This guy is saying the british should relinquish their diplomatic corp to nerds like him? Sa-ca-wrewe That! Does anyone think the europian union would give a rats ass about british interests? The exact opposite is patently obvious.
he keeps talking about the queen but these decisions are made by elected officials. This guy is really saying the british people should not have these rights.
The official reason why no one can get a look at the EU's spendings is "To prevent antieuropeans from abusing that data"
But did that guy just ask Britain to surrender her foreign policy to his kind to save some money in Britain that has to be spend threefold in Brussels instead?
Did he just ask us to adopt the incompetancy of the FED? I'm from Germany and do believe in propper monetary policy like the Bundesbank did it before the EU slaughtered it.
what a prick,,, none of the powers should be handed to the EU, who are these un-elected
power crazy mad men? and what do they want us to give up every thing for ? what did our fore fathers fight for in world wars 1 and 2 ? they fought for our freedom and to keep our rights and it is treason to give our power over to these european DICTATORS,
7 out of every 8 laws that are made are made by the EU to govern us and to fine us to get our £££, THEY WANT ABSOLUTE POWER, AND WE SHOULD STOP IT NOW.
@0808SCOOTER That's why I reckon, the VA flag would be nice, it's motto, Sic Semper Tyrannis. However What I really think y'all need is a European Tea Party Movement and protests. Maybe one way to launch it would be to put the eu flag on trial for treason and once found guilty it can be executed using shotguns and birdshot, similar to what that Florida Priest did with the quran. Also, I've read somewhere that a euro Tea Party could be the kiss of death for the eu.
So he's pleeding to give up national interests in favour of EU regulations! Wake up people, he was allready an idiotic prime minister in belgium. He's a NWO fraud!
God damn fed tyrant. Sounds like y'all need to protest in front of his office. As far as I'm concerned, y'all are free to use our secession flags as well. Ranging from the common Rebel flag to the normal SC flag, seeing we're the first ones out or the 2 SC secession flags. Another great one when dealing with tyrants is the VA flag, it has a nice motto on it. Gadsden flag's also a nice one, and is near 'bouts a Tea Party symbol.
He's totally correct. The EU has a parliament, a european commission and a range of policies concerning trade, cross-border cirminality, etc... yet they spend only 1% of GDP while national governments spent 40% or more. Ofc they have more policies and pay for social security etc...but if you transcend it to EU level it will be more efficiently (way less bureaucrats, difference of scale = less costs) + the reason why EU budget is not signed of is because of EU member states, not cause of the EU.
@Fizmoo Oh i should have guessed that you are from Belgium. Nothing wrong with most Belgians. Only the euro federalist psychopathic ones who are the problem. You havent had a government for over a year so please do not lecture anybody on what national governments spend or do not spend or how they spend. This fellow verhofstadt is the reason why so many citizens across europe are becoming eurosceptic.
Well, what's wrong with his view? Because to the EU we can negotiate with China/USA on equal terms. A single market without political integration is just stupid. Issues like energy, environment, coöperation on the outside EU borders are all topics which are much more effective EU wide. The fact that we have no government has nothing to do with this. The belgian presidency of the EU was a major success thx to our negotiating skills we obtained over the years -_-
@Fizmoo You should also remember that the British have had to send their sons and daughters to die for the liberation of europe with Napoleon, the Keizer and Hitler, so you can't really blame them for taking carefull steps in dealing with yet another european empire which is the EU. After having lived in the UK for some time, i am sure that the British love Europe but need the EU to show more love and respect for the UK as the UK has liberated Europe, including Belgium in WW2.
A box appeared in the video that said I should dislike the video if I disagreed with what Mr Verhofstadt was saying. I did that, but it was not as satisfying as I had hoped it would be.
@801D012 LOL., Well if enough people dislike it and vote accordingly, then you can class yourself as one of the pioneers of bringing down this sick joke that is the EU. Im sure we all love Europe, but detest the EU. Long live Europe and not the EU.
According to this guy, the UK could make savings by letting the EU take over our foreign policy, our monetary policy, entering the Euro and adopting European patents. What an arrogant little prick. I would love to shove Martin Schulz up his arse, Graham Watson down his throat and Barroso and van Rompuy up his urethra. Then I would set fire to them all.
@Pwecko He talks as if the UK joining Euro (giving up control of currency) would B advantageous to the UK. LOL The euro is in such bad shape that it needs Pound sterling 2 enter the euro 2 save the euro. It would be better if these MEP's just come out and talk truth about needing the Pound 2 come in and save the euro. The longer they pretend that all is well, the worse their situation gets. And i think the only way the pound could come in & save the euro is if the ECB was based in the UK.
Needing the pound to save the euro? Is that the same currency that has been losing value against the euro over the last 10 years? The currency from a country that saw it's debtrate increase in 4 years from 44% to 80% and still has a deficit of 10%? Yea, we really need that currency, yes. Lmao.
@Fizmoo before the banking crisis the UK had 1 of the lowest debt rates out of major EU countries. Obviousely after the banking crisis this was reversed due 2 the fact that the UK has around 70% of EU's banking & financial markets. Believe me the banking crisis will pass and when that happens the UK's debt will go strait back down to pre banking crisis levels. With London being the most important financial centre in the world, the UK being in the Euro would seriousely strengthen the euro.
@EUrealitycheck1 I don't think you grasp the seriousness of the last banking crisis. This one will last long before the toxin debt will all be gone. It will take at least another 5/8 years. Reserve capital requirements for banks are much higher then before the crisis, regulation will dampen the growth of the banks, a whole generation lost massive money during the last stock exchange crash and a lot of them won't come back, ever. To say UK will see the same growth from its banks as be4 is nai
@Fizmoo And you sir, are you not ashamed at the way that your former Prime minister keeps looking to Shultz for approval during this video? Why do you agree with just bowing down and seaking approval from an individual who would probably have been on hitler's side during the war? I want you to tell me honestly from now, Are you somebody who wants the EU to become a federal country? Please tell me because it is important for me to know if you are.
@EUrealitycheck1 To answer your question, no, I do not want it to become a federal country (and it isn't the objective of the EU either). The EU will always remain a collection of individual (sovereign) countries. However, I'm not against economic governance. More pressure, control and accountability from the EU towards member states about their economy is a good thing to avoid another Greek situation.
@Fizmoo So, you say you do not want a federal EU? Then please tell me sir, which other soveriegn, nation in the world does not have control of its own foreign policy, currency, borders, trade, laws or economy? These are the pillars of a soveriegn nation and you want the EU to control most of these, so please stop lying because we are not dumb. You want a federal EU and i was enjoying debating with you untill you tried to lie about you not wanting a federal EU. You are a Federalist!!!!
@Fizmoo And honestly speaking from your heart, do you think that this disrespective rant from mr verhofstadt is a good way of reassuring or convincing the Brits that the EU is the way to go? I know you are from Belgium and it seems that it is a written rule that all Belgians must be EU finatics, regardless of the pain and suffering going on in Greece, Ireland, Portugal and soon more to come.
@EUrealitycheck1 Errr, I'm sure you've seen some rants from Nigel Farage who were 10 times worse. I admit, when he said it was a provocation towards EU/Europe,that's too harsh and a bity silly but you know how politics work. And about Greece/Ireland/Portugal, that's not because of the Eu... Ireland fuelled a property boom (thx to cheap credit) and we bailed them out. Greece/Portugal are just not competitive enough, thats why they r in the sh*t yet wages rose 46% in Greece over the last 10years.
@Fizmoo You have to remember that Britain has fought wars against many EU dictators and has brought peace to europe in 3 of the most bloody periods of war in europe and the world. You cannot expect the Brits to just be happy with their currency being controled in frankfurt and their laws being decided in Brussels strasbourg and luxembourg. As i said earlier, if the ECB was relocated to the UK then i am certain that the Brits would have no problems joining the euro.
@EUrealitycheck1 We all fought many wars against each other. We were all involved during WWI & II (british, french, dutch, belgians, etc..) and all lost many men. That's why the EU was created, to not experience smthg like this again. Trading between countries creates dependancy on others and reduce the risk of a war massively. And only between 10-20% of our laws are created by the EU (mostly about trade etc.. which doesn't have any influence whatsoever). That problem is way overrated.
2nd part: Wages rose in Greece more then any other country in the EU over the last 10 years, every other macro & micro statistic from Greece is absolute sh*t. They are just not competitive enough relative to the wealth they have thx to the cheap credit of being in the euro. If they used the lower interest costs they had over the last 10 years more effectively eg. to make their country more competitive or lower their debt, they wouldn't be in this position.
@Fizmoo You know what bro, i agree with you. It would be better in the long run to have a big EU bloc to lead the world as a single, dare i say it - country. But the EU has made too many mistakes. Lack of democracy, lack of listening to referendums, and to be honest, the failure of getting the Brits on side has been damaging. The UK being a leading nation in europe should have been wooed more by Europe. If the EU puts some EU institutions in Britain then the Brits would warm to the EU.
@EUrealitycheck1 I don't think any1 here is against the UK being more involved in the EU. On contrary, on many policies I prefer the UK position instead of the French position. The monthly movement to Strasbourg is a joke, the CAP (=agriculture) expenditure should be lowered, etc... Some British demands for effectiveness & accountability is a very good thing. But on the other hand, the brits put themselves offside by being against everything instead of working for a solution.
@Fizmoo Its not just about policies. For example, Belgium has most EU institutions, consequently, Belgians are europhiles. If EU wants more support, particularly from Britain, then EU should be more inclusive. It amaizes me how Verhofstadt & other EU federalists ar so unaware of the deep bond between Britain and finance/currency. If there was some sort of deal in which control of the euro currency was shared between London & Frankfurt, then im sure it would geatly warm Britain to the euro.
If this is what happens when Farage is away he should be away more -- let the euphile MEPs do this stuff, and show it to the UK public. Don't let Farage stop them from hanging themselves!!
This man 'Guy verhofstadt' is the chairman of the UK LIberal Democrat MEP's grouping!!
@pperrinuk I agree. We should let them spew their bile at every occasion. When the people of the UK see and hear these people treating our government and therefore us, since we elected them, with such contempt, perhaps they will realise how dangerous and vile the EU really is. Well, I can dream.
The sooner the Netherlands leaves this EU dictatorship, the better it is. Let's be the first country to leave the EU, the anger is rising against this hated, non-wanted dictatorship.

Even in UK, where ministers really are elected, most other officials are not, they're appointed. All top EU officials are appointed by democratically elected governments of the member states. Most of the officials that hold the real executive power in any country are not elected, but appointed, like directors of agencies and central banks.
arna11420 2 months ago
@arna11420 I dont know why you choose to continue with your flawed argument when you know very well that the EU is greatly lacking a democratic mandate. You know very well that there is a huge democratic void in this EU. And you know that i know that you know. Many other EU federalists are now just being honest and admitting it because its all very plain and easy to see. It would be better for you to just admit that in order to get your federal EU, democracy must be stripped from the EU
EUrealitycheck1 2 months ago
@arna11420 If the EU had a true democratic mandate, then why have referendums on the issue now become a no no? And you said
"Saying that EU officials are unelected is like saying that you don't want MPs from Manchester deciding your laws because you live in London and you didn't elect them"
And my reply to you was saying that Manchester and London are part of the same country with mps ellected within that country by the population. EU commissioners are not ellected by the population
EUrealitycheck1 2 months ago

EUrealitycheck1 2 months ago
@arna11420 Do you think that financial services from european countries source in the UK to benefit the UK? No, they source to the UK to benefit themselves by exploiting the talent in the UK. And you say "English government does not care about the English taxpayers." Then tell me why you think UK government cares any less for their citizens than any other country in the world. Why would UK government not care and any other country, say, Germany or Italy care? What is different with UK?
EUrealitycheck1 2 months ago
I am not English but I've got to admit that the English government at least stands up for its people in one question: no more money or financial transaction taxes for the maniacs in the EU. Maniacs like Verhofstadt knew what kind of financial state Greece was in, but they didn't mind. After all, their dream is some kind of a Hitler or Napoleon inspired greater Europe run by either Brussels or Berlin. Europe is a continent, not a country. Mr Guy, reckon that and you'll spare us serious headache.
TiberiusBracchus 2 months ago
@TiberiusBracchus Don't be fooled, English government does not care about the English taxpayers, only about the liberty of the City to do what ever it wants. Deregulation of financial markets by Thatcher and Reagan set course for the crisis we are in now. Greece was protected from proper financial control because that was though of as interference of EU in domestic policy, and that was exactly what Greece needed.
arna11420 2 months ago
@arna11420 By rejecting the treaty, the UK has ensured that they keep democratic sovereignty and control of their own affairs, which is how it should be. The treaty plan is to fine and punish any countries which do not be assimilated to dictates from unnellected EU officials. Any countries signing up to the treaty are agreeing to hand over their democratic sovereignty to these unellected officials. And are agreeing to be punished for not being able to meet the dictates of these beaurucrats
EUrealitycheck1 2 months ago
@arna11420 Greek financial policy is not a business of the EU. In fact, monetary policy shouldn't be an EU issue either. Why on earth should UK, or any other EU member state for that matter, pay up for Greek idiocy? Why should I as a tax payer in Scandinavia be bothered with Greek corruption and mal-governence? International cooperation? Sure! Perverted EU super-state building? Hell no.
TiberiusBracchus 2 months ago
@TiberiusBracchus You're right, nobody should pay for Greek misbehavings. But the problem is not Greece, but Eurozone formed without real control of its members. If real control was there from the start, all this Greek business would've probably never happened.
arna11420 2 months ago

You don't even not know the situation, and just because you are to afraid to change, you isolate yourself on your little Island, call UK! Hello, the world count 7 billion habitants and you think that with the power of USA and with the soaring power of China the UK will still have his voice? Or will still follow its friend USA? True democracy does not exist but respecting each other is at least what human being should do.

@thibautvdh I agree with some of what you say. It is not helping matters making comments relating to his nationality.
However I have to say I find his comments and the way he presents his arguments as abhorrent. I'd like it shutdown and replaced with national governments, afterall there is nothing wrong with nations.

EUrealitycheck1 7 months ago
@EUrealitycheck1 The fact that he insults the Queen of England is not smart of him. Already a majority of the people from the UK are euroskeptics; his provocation to the Queen and the British soveriegnty just makes things worst. I consider myself to be a federalist, but unlike him, I respect monarchy and honor. It is a shame that he went that far, to fast. What he said was too much, but in a multinational democracy like the EU, it was certainly conserning for him to have a queen giving requests.

Another great one when dealing with tyrants is the VA flag, it has a nice motto on it. Gadsden flag's also a nice one, and is near 'bouts a Tea Party symbol.
Sic Semper Tyrannis
ConfederateDixieGirl 8 months ago
He's totally correct. The EU has a parliament, a european commission and a range of policies concerning trade, cross-border cirminality, etc... yet they spend only 1% of GDP while national governments spent 40% or more. Ofc they have more policies and pay for social security etc...but if you transcend it to EU level it will be more efficiently (way less bureaucrats, difference of scale = less costs) + the reason why EU budget is not signed of is because of EU member states, not cause of the EU.
Fizmoo 8 months ago
@Fizmoo Oh i should have guessed that you are from Belgium. Nothing wrong with most Belgians. Only the euro federalist psychopathic ones who are the problem. EUrealitycheck1 8 months ago
@EUrealitycheck1

@Pwecko He talks as if the UK joining Euro (giving up control of currency) would B advantageous to the UK.

EUrealitycheck1 8 months ago

EUrealitycheck1 8 months ago
@EUrealitycheck1 To answer your question, no, I do not want it to become a federal country (and it isn't the objective of the EU either). The EU will always remain a collection of individual (sovereign) countries. However, I'm not against economic governance. More pressure, control and accountability from the EU towards member states about their economy is a good thing to avoid another Greek situation.
Fizmoo 8 months ago
@Fizmoo So, you say you do not want a federal EU? Then please tell me sir, which other soveriegn, nation in the world does not have control of its own foreign policy, currency, borders, trade, laws or economy? These are the pillars of a soveriegn nation and you want the EU to control most of these, so please stop lying because we are not dumb. You want a federal EU and i was enjoying debating with you untill you tried to lie about you not wanting a federal EU. You are a Federalist!!!!
EUrealitycheck1 8 months ago
@Fizmoo And honestly speaking from your heart, do you think that this disrespective rant from mr verhofstadt is a good way of reassuring or convincing the Brits that the EU is the way to go? I know you are from Belgium and it seems that it is a written rule that all Belgians must be EU finatics, regardless of the pain and suffering going on in Greece, Ireland, Portugal and soon more to come.
EUrealitycheck1 8 months ago
@EUrealitycheck1 Errr, I'm sure you've seen some rants from Nigel Farage who were 10 times worse. I admit, when he said it was a provocation towards EU/Europe,that's too harsh and a bity silly but you know how politics work. And about Greece/Ireland/Portugal, that's not because of the Eu... Ireland fuelled a property boom (thx to cheap credit) and we bailed them out. Greece/Portugal are just not competitive enough, thats why they r in the sh*t yet wages rose 46% in Greece over the last 10years.
Fizmoo 8 months ago
@Fizmoo You have to remember that Britain has fought wars against many EU dictators and has brought peace to europe in 3 of the most bloody periods of war in europe and the world. You cannot expect the Brits to just be happy with their currency being controled in frankfurt and their laws being decided in Brussels strasbourg and luxembourg. As i said earlier, if the ECB was relocated to the UK then i am certain that the Brits would have no problems joining the euro.
EUrealitycheck1 8 months ago
@EUrealitycheck1 We all fought many wars against each other. We were all involved during WWI & II (british, french, dutch, belgians, etc..) and all lost many men. That's why the EU was created, to not experience smthg like this again. Trading between countries creates dependancy on others and reduce the risk of a war massively. And only between 10-20% of our laws are created by the EU (mostly about trade etc.. which doesn't have any influence whatsoever). That problem is way overrated.
Fizmoo 8 months ago
@EUrealitycheck1
Fizmoo 8 months ago
@Fizmoo You know what bro, i agree with you. It would be better in the long run to have a big EU bloc to lead the world as a single, dare i say it - country. But the EU has made too many mistakes. Lack of democracy, lack of listening to referendums, and to be honest, the failure of getting the Brits on side has been damaging. The UK being a leading nation in europe should have been wooed more by Europe. If the EU puts some EU institutions in Britain then the Brits would warm to the EU.
EUrealitycheck1 8 months ago
@EUrealitycheck1 I don't think any1 here is against the UK being more involved in the EU. On contrary, on many policies I prefer the UK position instead of the French position. The monthly movement to Strasbourg is a joke, the CAP (=agriculture) expenditure should be lowered, etc... Some British demands for effectiveness & accountability is a very good thing. But on the other hand, the brits put themselves offside by being against everything instead of working for a solution.
Fizmoo 8 months ago
@Fizmoo Its not just about policies. For example, Belgium has most EU institutions, consequently, Belgians are europhiles. If EU wants more support, particularly from Britain, then EU should be more inclusive. It amaizes me how Verhofstadt & other EU federalists ar so unaware of the deep bond between Britain and finance/currency. If there was some sort of deal in which control of the euro currency was shared between London & Frankfurt, then im sure it would geatly warm Britain to the euro.
