I think the real problem with our economy is the income inequality, the old saying is true that "the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer". I would not blame the poor for being poor, and would add that the rich need the poor and not vice versa.

2. Goods and servives over priced. We pay more for less and the cost of goods have outpaced our earnings.
3. Technology has been used as an excuse to justify price increases, despite it (enabling more economical parts, rapid production, and decrease in required line workers) less costly effects.
Also I believe the gas prices made people realize that they have to start cutting back on spending,This started to cause the chain reaction to tighten the consumers pocket and gas prices are climbing back up again.

#1 Why not? In fact it is necessary to stay competitive: Taxing the rich to help the working class (free education, health care...) makes the workers more competitive. When only some people are rich, real quality of living is much worse.
#2 In international capitalism companies do not only produce in 1 country, but use parts from different countries. When the US imposes taxes on foreign goods, US companies will fail.

Look up the Gini-index of the US. There are only a few countries, where the difference between rich & poor is higher. When you only tax working class, labour costs sky rocket and the job will soon go to cheaper countries, when you tax the capital and the working class it is better. The people with high income should be taxed, they profit from globalisation, while the working class has to fight against cheap competition

my cousin was incharge of a hospital wing. her boss gave her a list of 300 hospital workers she had to lay off. she felt so bad but it was a part of her job so she did it. the next day she got laid off. i hope her boss gets fired, that wasnt cool. i mean if there needs to be layoffs fine, but to make someone lay people off so all the heat is on him/her and then lay them off... that Effed up.

This figures does not take into account or reflect the effects the economy has had on those who work on on commission who have had their incomes slashed or the small self employed business owners who have also seen losses.Things are much worse than they wish us to know.They created a perfect economic sh*t storm for us and they try to call it a sprinkle.
I bet unemployment figures are closer to 50% since those who have exhausted their benefits but still don't have jobs aren't counted, and those who don't have jobs but for whatever reason were denied benefits aren't counted, and those who are mentally ill and wandering the streets aren't counted, and those who are entrenched in the welfare system aren't counted, and those who aren't working because they've become disabled or sick aren't counted, and those people in jail aren't counted. . . . . .
There are many inefficient and pointless government jobs that add nothing to the economy. In fact, since they're paid for by taxing the wealth out of those who do add something to the economy, they're actually draining the economy.
You can't really count these jobs as real jobs that add anything to the economy.
Once you take them into account the outlook is even bleaker.

One reason the country is in the shape it`s in is because the government can`t keep their hands out of your back pocket even before you get your paycheck. I looked at my hometown paper of Darlington, SC and read about a so-called hospitality tax and the same paper reports a 14 percent unemployment rate. Look up the word stupid in the dictionary and you see a picture of that. Here we are in Afghanistan and now they sell 90 percent of the heroin in the United States.

I have a lot of respect for Obama. Look what he came into. Bush was the one who couldn`t spend enough. He made promises he never kept and put us in two wars. He never cared about healthcare while he himself had his healthcare paid for by the government. He also presented a bad image for Americans making us look stupid and lovers of war to other countries. I believe Ohioan are getting screwed because of the jobs are getting scarey moving to different countries in which they need to bring our job back because we are losing are homes, automobiles especially our education because they are closing libraries, historical sites, musuems and it was stated from Bush that no child to be left behind...So this needs to pushed forward and something needs to be done because all the jobs are getting cut and there is no insurance out there for part-time help.

Yup, I know national cash register moved from ohio down here to georgia and instead of unionized workers they are screwing people over as "material handlers" paying them minimum wage or damn near it, permanent part time, not having to pay taxes, getting free land, and a huge sum of money from the state stimulus bill... 10,000 jobs!... yeah right says they are hiring 100 positions once they get here.

my cousin was incharge of a hospital wing. her boss gave her a list of 300 hospital workers she had to lay off. she felt so bad but it was a part of her job so she did it. the next day she got laid off. i hope her boss gets fired, that wasnt cool. i mean if there needs to be layoffs fine, but to make someone lay people off so all the heat is on him/her and then lay them off... that Effed up.

We are not independent when it comes to survival. Most of us depend on other people for food, water, electricity. We need to start growing as much food individually as possible and somehow provide our own electricity if need be. Rain water encatchment systems should be common.

Rain water capture systems are illegal in all the cities I've ever lived in. I wish I were making that up. :) I'd drawn plans for an automated irrigation system for a back yard greenhouse since I travel quite a bit when it dawned on me to check the legality of it.

I bet unemployment figures are closer to 50% since those who have exhausted their benefits but still don't have jobs aren't counted, and those who don't have jobs but for whatever reason were denied benefits aren't counted, and those who are mentally ill and wandering the streets aren't counted, and those who are entrenched in the welfare system aren't counted, and those who aren't working because they've become disabled or sick aren't counted, and those people in jail aren't counted. . . . . .

There are many inefficient and pointless government jobs that add nothing to the economy. In fact, since they're paid for by taxing the wealth out of those who do add something to the economy, they're actually draining the economy.
You can't really count these jobs as real jobs that add anything to the economy.
Once you take them into account the outlook is even bleaker.
