I like Air better than Clannad After Story because (SPOILER ALERT) in Clannad, despite all the sad things that happen, at the very end everyone is alive and happy. Air's ending is a lot more complex, sad, and open-ended for those who weren't paying close enough attention. I also hated Clannad because of all the boring episodes in which nothing happened but a small filler story.

This really made an impact on me. I stayed up all night till 6am to finish watching this anime. My eyes were red from crying so much and my heart felt so heavy! It made me listen to the OP while watching the sky pass by and it made me feel some what nostalgic, although I don't have a dad it's also made me appreciate my mum's role in my life more! 3
to be honest im rather pissed... its like you know how it will end the whole time, i thought he will be able to break the curse and set her free so it will end this same sad part what everyone have to undergo. And how it ended? Nothing changed the girl will always die and ppl will always be upset about that... Its like a bird in cage that already know when it dies(can u imagine a life where u know when u will die?)... :(
@negima37 if you cried at air, i suggest u to see clannad :-) clannad consist of fun and school life stories, on the other hand after story is something like air so more cruel and sad. I will bet you will not be able to hold ur tears for even 5minuts(dont get me wrong but after story will be worth only.from 15.ep) i got more recommendations if.you want^^

the curse would eventually lift even more until it vanishes. this is when the grey haired bloke/crow (or most likely his future descendants) would be able to find her. she would then use her remaining magic to restart both their lives as normal humans- who finally get the chance to be by each others side for the rest of their lives.
@lannn true was thinking along the same path but also his wish he used along with all his ansester wish from that doll to start over with her from the begining may have broke the curse cause the main point was for her to live a normal life as a human lol but just a guess
also, i wonder if kanna still wants herself or her reincarnations to be with ryuya dono because the anime never mention it. perhaps he has gone to another life in the afterlife with uraha, who became his wife after kanna died. the anime says that she forgot the one she love, but it seems to be her mother instead of ryuya according to the storyline if i'm correct. well, it seems she fail loves affairs with countless mens as well. the opening is hilarious, but the ending is heartbreaking.
so if he still search for her(kanna) as a crow, did he somehow became a little boy to help out another kanna's reincarnation at the end? but why at the same time? do he have many souls? this anime could go on 4eva with this plot.
@CX222666 hummm i think the guy waits until his baby is born before he transfers himself into the baby. i guess this would result in the death of his old body though. once he finds her after her curse is lifted, it would probably be her power that reincarnates them both to have a happy life together- which somehow ended up being in the same era as their previous lives.
i have the tv & ova of this series, except the movie, but i'm still confuse at the end. is that little girl(not misuzu) at the end kanna's reincarnation, and it feels like yukito is that little boy, right? y is the little boy & misuzu r the only 1s waving at each other?
Air is still the sole reason i continue to love anime... I mean this series was made in 2005 (2005!!) and its still much better than most other shows.
If some of you are confused from all this... it's ok. Because that's beauty of this series. It plays with your head, and make it so you seek a satisfying conclusion. I never found mine, so i had to write a fanfic to deal with the sadness (yeah I'm a loser lol).

i liked clannad better. this was ok, but it had too much supernatural elements involved. the episodes showing the past confused me whether i should care for those set of characters or the ones in the present.

I thought the girl and boy were yuuichi and nayuki from kanon, because the girl has blue hair and the boy has the voice of little yuuichi. Also, Makoto, Ayu, and Nayuki make an appearance in one of the early episodes. Idk
@coollink57 I'm pretty sure the kids are the reincarnation of Kanna and Ryuuya... it makes sense, if you think about it ^^ (I mean, look at what they're saying...) Besides, Nayuki and Yuuichi wouldn't make sense... it would be kind of irrelevant to the plot...

Compared to Clannad, Air was a Pain in my ass. Clannad was so much better than this show, the characters, the story, the animations, the ost,...the only episodes what i enjoyed was the 2 episodes with Kanaa and the last one.

@Antibronies It aint better because during the times when Key made the story of Air, their story wirters are still amatuers but as you can see...Minagi is exactly like Kotomi, Michiru's arc is Fuukos Arc and Misuzus death is greatly similar to Ushio's and Nagisa.
Clannad is the result of continues experiences hence the origin will remain to be better (just like how the novel always teabags the movies)

The older the wine, the smoother it is. It's true that Clannad has a more sophisticated storyline due to the game itself, and 24*2 episodes are an appropriate length to cover the story - but despite all of that AIR is better IMO due to the settings of a 1000-year karma, the mother-daughter storyline, and the ending that leaves room for imagination, thus everyone has his/her own understandings towards AIR. @angelavengr Clannad wasn't very clear in the last episode. Nagisa and Ushio were suddenly alive, something that's pretty much impossible. And the robot and the girl in the other world didn't make sense as well. Nor did it make sense how Fuuko's "ghost" just suddenly appeared from nowhere.
@Superkawaii96 The Kaana girl who was the winged girl is reinacarnated through the ages in spirit and it was her dreams and emotions that Misuzu was feeling and dreaming about her "cup couldn't hold an ocean" like Kaana's spirit so her body couldn't take it and died, with Yuukito going and being reincarnated as the crow to always look out for her. Then the cycle started again for those little ones on the beach with the little girl dreaming and the boy as guardian. Confusing but great ^_^
None of these animes - Clannad, Kanon and Air make sense, but it always leaves you with a beautiful feeling... A feeling of hope. Even if you're suffering pain, there will be a time when you're happy. You just have to try hard.
@rainbowniji25 Clannad made perfect sense. Kanon was very clear as well apart from the last scene but even then it wasn't that unclear. Air is very odd, it is too dense to appropriately cover everything in terms of story and character development. But yea they all do leave you feeling great, Clannad especially was amazing, Air doesn't quite match up to Clannad or Kanon.

Hm.. I don't know, after the anime came back with Yukito as a crow, it was just too weird for me. I was enjoying it until that point but then it took a u-turn into a different tangent. The story focused mostly on Yukito in the beginning, but he became almost an after thought in the end. The other girls as far as I can tell didn't really have much to do with the main story either. I feel that the end was like a different story than in the beginning. I did like the mom storyline, but eh..
@rukia531 there is also Kanon. I watched it and personally didn't like it very much. It's nothing compared to Clannad/after story and air. But a pretty good tear jerker anime would be "Myself, Yourself" its not very common, but its very good :)

@Antibronies What your saying is called a "Remake" which is made by 2 different companies. Air and Kanon is called "Origin/Source/Foundation" because they are made by the same creators. The older the wine, the smoother it is. Without the experiences gained in their early works, Clannad, Angel beats and Little Busters wont exist either, so quit being immature and accept the fact that Originality is the art of hiding your sources hence, all credits goes to them

@FynbelleSinclair An anime isnt a whine, you argument basicly boils down to "Air came first so its automaticly better" even though the order they came out in has nothing to do with the final product. Each person has their own preference, you obviously prefer air, bugypad prefers Clannad. Personaly I think that Kanon is the best of the three.

- I can see that you managed to provide some definite proof that experiences have nothing to do with a masterpiece -_-
Also, no, i prefer live action Asian drama's above Air, Kanon and Clannad because unlike them, the plots are realistic, and doesnt rely too much on OSTs. The only reason why Clannad managed to get to the top is because otakus have no balls for some live action dramas lik Winter Sonata

Just admit it already, the lastest works are better than the older because of the trial and errors. Hence, insulting the sources is insulting the result twice as much

Second of all thats not what I said, Im just saying the fact that Air came out first and lacked the experience dosnt make it better than Clannad. It seems like you are trying to use that as an excuse for Air having a poorer preformance, which isnt true at all.

I think I get the ending of the story alr ... That little boy that Misuzu and Yukito saw that time is actually their next generations , or something like that . That's why the boy said that he remembered the past , which is when he was still Yukito . Also why he said "To them , cruel days . And to us , a beginning . Hope this helps (:

I knew it was those kids..it was just too obvious. Still..WHAT THE HELL!? I am so not happy with this ending. They'd deserved to be together.. that's..so not fair.. This anime is so depressing now.. it hurts my heart.. I no longer know if I hate it or..love it.. it just..hurts... gues it just means I can finally feel what she felt.. and not let her be alone.. with those feelings. Love you Misuzu..Love you Yukito..

Random, but I dont think comparing this to Clannad is doing this anime or that any favors.
IMO, I thought this was better cut and more refreshing than Clannad.

I dont think AIR is as much sad as bittersweet. It still pulls at my heart with a weird mix of happiness and sad :(

AIR was a good anime but i think that Clannad and Clannad After Story are better. they made me cry. unlike AIR. oh well..everyone has their own opinions.

It's true that Clannad has a more sophisticated storyline due to the game itself, and 24*2 episodes are an appropriate length to cover the story - but despite all of that AIR is better IMO due to the settings of a 1000-year karma, the mother-daughter storyline, and the ending that leaves room for imagination, thus everyone has his/her own understandings towards AIR. ON TOP OF THAT AIR is saddest - Nagisa/Ushio can be "resurrected" if all the lights are collected whereas Misuzu can't help but to

@rainbowniji25 U r wrong. Cuz Clannad is much more complicted. Its like a puzzle. Every epiaode of clannad is one piece of puzzle. U muz match them to understand it truthfully and the girl in the other world is Ushio.. U no Okazaki last epi he call out to nagisa n ushio name? Thats y they show u the other world den everything repeats. Fuuko ghost is cuz she in the hospital very long until the sprit leaves her

@angelavengr Clannad wasn't very clear in the last episode. Nagisa and Ushio were suddenly alive, something that's pretty much impossible. And the robot and the girl in the other world didn't make sense as well. Nor did it make sense how Fuuko's "ghost" just suddenly appeared from nowhere.

@Superkawaii96 The Kaana girl who was the winged girl is reinacarnated through the ages in spirit and it was her dreams and emotions that Misuzu was feeling and dreaming about her "cup couldn't hold an ocean" like Kaana's spirit so her body couldn't take it and died, with Yuukito going and being reincarnated as the crow to always look out for her. Then the cycle started again for those little ones on the beach with the little girl dreaming and the boy as guardian. Confusing but great ^_^

None of these animes - Clannad, Kanon and Air make sense, but it always leaves you with a beautiful feeling... A feeling of hope. Even if you're suffering pain, there will be a time when you're happy. You just have to try hard.

@rainbowniji25 Clannad made perfect sense. Kanon was very clear as well apart from the last scene but even then it wasn't that unclear. Air is very odd, it is too dense to appropriately cover everything in terms of story and character development. But yea they all do leave you feeling great, Clannad especially was amazing, Air doesn't quite match up to Clannad or Kanon.

I'm srry to all vieuwers but i didn't get the story at all, even after my second time watching it, and it's been 3 or 4 years since i first watched it... so that technically says that over the years I haven't gotten smarter, but actually dumber --'
I get that she was sick...
but why did the san-guy turn into a crow? and what's up with the ending O.O
especially what the kid says ?? it kinda makes me sad but I loved the anime anyway ;D what a complaint guys ;D

@xxRinne That's the popular theory; their final rebirth represents them having broken free of their horrible destiny and can live normal lives, despite they can see their past lives sitting there like that.

Hm.. I don't know, after the anime came back with Yukito as a crow, it was just too weird for me. I was enjoying it until that point but then it took a u-turn into a different tangent. The story focused mostly on Yukito in the beginning, but he became almost an after thought in the end. The other girls as far as I can tell didn't really have much to do with the main story either. I feel that the end was like a different story than in the beginning. I did like the mom storyline, but eh..

@rukia531 there is also Kanon. I watched it and personally didn't like it very much. It's nothing compared to Clannad/after story and air. But a pretty good tear jerker anime would be "Myself, Yourself" its not very common, but its very good :)
