  • This was super funny! I can't wait, we sail in 20 days!

  • When I watched this on the Splendor 2 months ago I couldn't fully enjoy it because I suspected it was all an act and fake. I did say that if, somehow, it wasn't fake....it's the most hilarious thing ever. But, it IS fake and not funny because of it. The script itself is not what makes it funny. Imagine if you knew it was actors...you probably wouldn't laugh as hard or at all. What makes it so funny is the thought that these people are just like you....on vacation...and it's all ad libbing.

  • he did the same exact thing on our cruise, some of them are plants but the others arent. i thought it was really funny though when i was there. but it kinda makes me sad

  • This man is in the wrong line of work. He actually should do standup and Vegas.

  • Aww I'm so upset..I was on the Carnival Conquest last week and I saw this show and I loved it. It was hysterical..I even bought the DVD and now I find out it wasn't just us and it was staged..too bad but still hilarious

  • this really hurts my feelings... i went on a cruise last week and i thought the whole thing was REAL and i laughed more than i ever have before... i even bought the video... but now that i know it was a set up... its not funny:(

  • i saw this for the first time on the carnival liberty. when we went on our next cruise, the carnival freedom, we saw the exact same skit. it was very disappointing to find out it was all staged.

  • well, I didn't and so what if it is staged. it was hysterical. If I were not upon the sea is also a staple with MOST cruise ships. they just put their own spin on it which makes it unique to them.

  • I saw this. It was hilarious

  • YA know, I've noticed you seem to have quite a hatred toward Carnival. I've seen you post on other vids about them. Are you really so spiteful and hateful? I thought this was great and alot of fun. If you hate carnival so much here is a little advice for you. Don't sail with them, and leave the rest of us that do enjoy them and the fun we have with them alone! I'm sure your life will be the better for letting go of this hate!

  • I agree 100%. I have seen virtually the same animosity towards Carnival in each and every post under the same name, on YouTube and Cruise message boards. Sounds like some very sour grapes to me.

  • OMG...that was so funny...

  • does anyone have this of a more recent version? i was on the freedom from 8/1 to 8/9/09 and this was hilarious. i didnt get a chance to buy it though, so i was wondering if someone could send me a more recent verion! thanks in advance!

  • haha, I was on this cruise as well. I did not think it was scripted either. I saw the "villain" after the show and said that he was really funny. He responded with, "It was all part of the script" Regardless, it was so funny. And yes, if this bedtime story could get leaked, that would be awesome. It was 25 bucks on the ship, so I decided not to buy it.

  • I just got back from a cruise on he Carnival Freedom (8/1/2009-8/8/2009) and I saw this exact performance (With minor differences). I thought it was utmost one of the funniest things I'd ever seen and one of the things that made it so hilarious was the--what I thought at the time--spontaneity and the "lucky picks" from the crowd. I'm really really disappointed to find out that it was not original. The performance itself was still hilarious, but I'm still kinda disappointed. Too good to be true..

  • @hikarma

Lol I know I'm a bit late but It may have been the same because it was probably the same person. I was on the Carnival Freedom 6/20/09-6/28/09 and John Heald was on board to take Todd Whittmer's place as the Cruise Director. Was he by chance your Cruise Director?

  • OMG HE DID THIS ON THE FREEDOM!

  • This just made me so sad... I was on the july 12th-july 18th 2009 carnival freedom and he did this exact skit (mary sitting on john, the asian guy saying "sh@t" instead of shoot, the random picture taking) I thought this was original but now... I feel betrayed

  • I feel betrayed too. It was a hilarious skit, but now I just feel betrayed.

  • saw this skit on the freedom cruise ship last week 09 same exact skip. had me fooled til someone told us it was fake after the show bc they were on the same cruise last week and just stayed on the same boat. oh well it was still hilariouss!!

  • I was on the June 28-July 4th cruise... and I thought it was a new show, too, and I'm surprised that this was performed as early as 2001. It's all too identical... the tinkles, bang bangs, Mary jumping on John...... but it was fun. =P

My dad was in this show a few days ago, and he played the hero.

  • I was on this same cruise. I enjoyed the skit, but I thought it was all spontaneous, not rehersed. btw, you dad was great.

  • Thanks. =) My dad really enjoyed being part of the show and is glad that so many people found it entertaining.

Yeah, John really does a good job making it seem spontaneous, even though I had my suspicions after the first night that he had pre-picked the audience members to introduce... it didn't seem likely that he could have accidentally selected so many interesting, OUTGOING personalities.

  • I pooed all over myself when I watched this

  • OMG hilarious! John Heald may be on my cruise on the Freedom in June! I hope he does this skit again!

  • I was on the Freedom. He was so great!!!!!

  • they did the exact same skit on the cruise i was on with almost similar looking people. darn i thought it was original

  • I loved Jimmy Willis on Premier's ships, he was just as funny. He followed you if you got up and left the room. He did an Elvis impersonation you wouldn't believe. This is fantastic, thank you for posting the video.

  • This was very funny on our 2003 cruise and I'll post the video we got of it over the weekend.

  • They are not plants! I've sailed with John Heald 4 times. The skit is used in most sailings with John Heald only (maybe few others but to date I've been on 9 total cruises and only John Heald has used it), but I repeat it has a different group of passengers casted everytime. Most of the skits are equally funny due to John's descriptive wording enticing them to be extra funny and his leading up to the "bedtime story" puts everyone in a good mood. You never know what is going to happen. :)

  • That is great to hear. Thanks for the clarification!

  • John is the best cruise director ever. I was on the Triumph on this very cruise in the video. We laughed so hard we cried and ached. He really made that cruise the best I've had.I was totalled thrilled to find this video on youtube.Fun to watch and great memories. Thanks for posting it.

  • Glad you enjoyed it. We just came back from another Carnival cruise and Lenny was the cruise director. He tried doing this "bedtime story" skit and it was nowhere close to how funny this one was!

  • John Heald is one if not the funnist cruise director on the open seas today, seeing him is a treat in itself.

  • whe i went on the splendor in july i thought it was for real lol

  • whats really awesome is no, those people arent plants! john heald is just the best. go look up his blog, it is just as entertaining! thank you for posting this!! =)

  • Your welcome. I added that comment to the video after reading some other blogs from past carnival guests about the "bedtime story" skit. I had no idea what it was called but they said he did same or very similar shows years later. I am sure none were as funny as this "cast of characters" but who knows.

  • Can you share, please?

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • What a scream!! Good one..!! Thanks.
