The problems is that there has always only been one cable connecting south africa to the rest of the internet. A second one has just been completed which should help but another problem is that the communications industry has been stifled by the monopoly that telkom holds on the industry.
I'd shoot myself if I was forced to go back to dial-up.
Seriously, though, I would probably just give up on the internet if it took that long. I have better things to do than watch a webpage load for 15 minutes.
I laughed before the story was over because it was obvious where it was headed (and at what speed) but the progress of the data line - I gasped at how bad that was.
Great vlog! Speaking of slow internet I got capped yesterday (we have 250g a month...) so I am back to the crummy internet cafe each day just to watch yt...slow internet is the worst thing I can imagine. (5 pointy things *****)
that is funny but here is the question. We all know if there is a problem with the computer you can just reboot it. How do you reboot a homing pigeon? And that do you do if it gets a virus? I
yes I read that news item too. But they do not tell us how big the memory card is. It might have been a 32 gig card. But you are correct this story is funny, a classic. But on the other hard, it it was just 4% after 2 hours, that is slow.
being a south african and having to deal with the speed of the internet i will tell you it is FUCKING FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You read this on the BBC news? I remember reading about it too. You'd need some pretty fast pigeons to out-do Korea. Maybe a Hawk...

Reminds me when I was trying to wifi in Thailand and Canada. :(
I just changed internet providers here. The last one was a pain in the arse. Slowest ADSL I ever had in South Korea.

Well for one thing, now I finally do know how fast a pigeon can fly... I find it quite surprising

I suppose YouTube is out of the question for South Africa.
We really have a long way to go to get the entire globe connected on the Information Superhighway.
