  • I actually had to close my door for a few minutes while I cried. When Seita had to beg for food at that shop, I was sobbing.

  • U.s is killing civilians but they don't admit it. We need a radical sociological revolution. The future belongs to a more evolved human. Watch: zeitgeist moving forward

  • What is wrong with the people of this world? Why war? It comes to no surprise when politicians are corrupt. They don't send their children to die for geo-political reasons. No, they send the poor. U.s.a has been bombing yemen, Somalia, Pakistan and who knows who else for quite a few months. U. S uses drones and they do it as CIA so they can say that technically, we're not at war with these other countries but if any country bombed U.S with unmanned planes we would call it an act of war. U.s is

  • This is the saddest movie I've ever watched.

  • That aunt was a bitch. I would have given my life, and if I raised my family right they would have wanted to do whatever it took to help one in need, even if it meant being hungry for a very long time. I also would have been more clear with a boy of working age eating free food without helping to pay, I wouldn't have gone about it in such a passive agressive bitchy way that eventually kills him and his sister.

  • Thank you for posting this movie!!!!!

  • I cried throughout the movie. This is such a sad movie!!

  • This is such a disturbingly sad movie...but it is brillant, like the anime.

The basic plot of this film could also have been set in Germany in WWII, nearly 1:1, without the Japanese cultural background of course. My Grandmother (who was a teen in late WWII, just like Seita) and her family were bombed out, she lost her own grandparents, many friends and her youngest brother died of malnutrition.

This film has a deep universial message: war is a curse, no matter where it happens

  • 悲しみしか生まれないですから、

    戦争は…

  • 世界中の人たちがみんな仲良くできたらいいな。

  • FUCK those ppl in government who are supposed to serve us but instead steal, lie and start unnecessary wars for own gain

may they be punished good and proper

  • me is crying

  • i sure am glad this story is fiction and not a fact :')

  • @T0PRAT3R I'm not judging and please don't take it personally but I'm sure for many people the reality was even worse back then, and this continues until now in some coutries. The only people who win during the war are the ones who make billions selling the guns.

  • my attempt not to cry...but as expected i failed miserably!

  • damn i cried throughout like half the movie and im a guy saying this lol. its so sad because there isnt much in depth conversations, the actions just simply speak for themselves. points are made in almost every scene but its to subtle and u just gotta feel them as they come. the little sister made me cry so much because she displayed the lost of innocence and life during the war. i cant even sleep now because this movie made me so sad lol.

  • title of the song = Bank Band「生まれ来る子供たちのために」

    生まれ来る子供たちのために オフコース LIVE

    You Tube : ↑ Copy Pasting Search ↑Cover. Mr.Children

  • wat's the title of the song at the end call? does any1 knw?

  • Someone reply!

Do the fireflies resemble the ppl tht lost their lives in the war and te two main is setsuko and her brother ?

  • Good job japanes

    Very good. The alwayes good

Im still learn from japnease people

  • I would have stayed at the aunts house and said at dinner;" When me and my sister die of malnutrition can you please put are ashes in the fruit drop can and place on the shelf as a reminder to you all of how selfish you were."

  • Ok this is officially the saddest movie I have ever watched. :(

  • This is what it sounds like when doves cry.

  • Ok why they gotta show Muslim kids in the end.

  • @kennypachi00

    What's wrong with that?

  • @afirdaus068

I mean why can't they show different variety, ain't poverty not in other nations. Don't reply cause this is a stupid conversation.

  • @kennypachi00

Well..... Yeah, kinda stupid, I don't know what to reply.

  • @kennypachi00 Because there are young kids even to this very day struggling to live and fending for themselves. There doesn't have to be a world war for it to happen.

  • @kennypachi00 wow...thats racist and ignorant...this movie was released as the 60th annivesary of WW2....but there is still wars going on especially the middle east...children...no matter what race or colour or religion or where they come from...they're innocent...we as humans are all born innocent and the young don't deserve to be caught up in senseless political warfare...so these children are shown to make people realise that

  • @xoxsweetsapnaxox

read the second comment i wrote to @afirdaus068.

  • @kennypachi00 ok fair enough sorry for the misunderstanding ._.

  • 6 letters: HUHUHU

  • whats the song in the end

  • Not as good as the anime but still really good. I cried at the end here too.

  • i cried in the anime and this version...the one who played setsuko and seita are fine actress and actor, respectively... :)

one of the best drama of all time, for me... ^_^

  • @MegaBluestarfish yeeeeeeeeah i wish that 2 i wish that 2 i wish that from the bottom of my heart how can a human do that is her own family ,,,,,........ shes a bitch

  • so sad i cried

  • That was an amazing movie!!! I can't choose which one I like better, good thing I don't have to :p

  • This movie needs to be more popular.

  • My tears...

    I can't stop them!

    *sniffs*

  • Arigatou Ookini for the

Grave of the Fireflies - Live Action.

  • :'(

  • this movie is beautiful.

the english version of the anime version wasn't as good.

i cried during this version because it was realistic.

    --

Setsuko is my favorite character in both versions.

But in this version I can FEEL Seita's realistic war emotion and it breaks my heart.

    it's beautiful - truly beautiful...

  • i just check and i see that there was another that made in 2008 wow, ahh.. hmmm.. i guess ill watch another 1. lol but the scene seem more like the anime YAY!

  • wow how long was this movie lik 4 hour? anime was way too short

  • The anime was the true story

  • Does anyone know if this was based on a true story?

  • @ericmsandoval yeah alot of it is but the part where seita dies wasnt

  • 60 years later Setsuko's ashes finally are flowing in this special river...

Mankind sucks to have the idea to conduct war.

  • It breaks my heart to see this movie because it reminds me that there were probably incidents that happened just like this one... I wish that I could have helped these children, and when I grow up, I want to do something to help people so nothing like this ever happens again.

R.I.P. Seita, Setsuko, and all the innocent victims of war

  • @sham14pooh I apologize for double commenting but I agree with animefun345 what is this song? I'm looking for it everywhere on youtube.

  • Why so many films about the suffering of soldiers in war, and so few about the suffering of children in war?

  • What was the song at the end and who was the singer?

  • After seeing those children I wanna scoop them up and steal them off somewhere safe away from the hurt of war and just shower them with love T_T I wonder if there are trustworthy programs where I can do that when I grow up =;)

  • @xFegzx It's based on a true story. :3

  • this is such a good movie. i love it *cries*

  • 本当に良いお話だった。今まであった出来事を忘れてはいけないと思った。

  • The anime version left a bigger impact, but it was mainly because I saw that one first. The live action version adds much more detail and back story to it. Like in the anime depiction, the aunt was just, well lets face it, a bitch. In the live action version, I couldn't help but see her side of the situation...

  • the anime version is a teir jerker. :_(

  • I cried 3 times in this whole movie. D: The actress that played the little girl is so precious. She resembles my 3 year-old sister so much, it makes me sad. Same smile and almost same haircut.

  • in the anime i cried like 2 times. 1 in 2 minutes and the other in 20 minutes. Here I cried 7 times n all was about 5 mins. :(

  • @Chibizi I did too. Crying right now. T__T

  • 3:22 That just happened!

  • Amazing song! Protect who you love and the children of this world...

  • this was an amazing rendition of the animated film. this version made my heart hurt and was nearly impossible to not cry throughout the whole film. i like how they dug deeper into the characters of the aunt and cousin. it didn't make it exactly the same as the animated version. i like that decision

  • anyone no the song name at the end ?

  • This was such a sad movie! I cried through the whole thing!

  • i like the aunt, she is a realist. the hot cute girl whos like the great great great grand daughter of the aunt wudnt be alive if the aunt didnt act like how she did but props to the message of the story here and props to the directors for reinforcing it to tell us about war victims all over the world. and to clear a point, neither the u.s or japan didnt start the war, it was germany geeeeeesh.

  • @joexyooj She sure is hot...

  • @joexyooj i know u would think ppl knew that!

  • it depends on the circumstance really. and the person. but Filipinos are food loving people and centered on family ties - very closely

  • The aunt isn't wrong.

If she died, her children wouldn't have anything to eat.

  • japanese culture is far really different from Filipino culture..In Fil. culture, the aunt will not let the two children live on their own..Food is not an issue in our culture as long as you help each other especially if he or she is your relative..

  • @TheStupidJohn so you think thats japanese culture? lol i dont think thats japanese culture. and food was an issue in the war in america was not because the war was far from their homeland

  • @TheStupidJohn It's not about the culture... -.- Each person is different.

  • Thank you for uploading this, and im not sure if you are the one to explain some of the culture and language traps, but without them I might have been lost. Again thank you for that also.

  • I watch both the anime and movie in one day and now my eyes hurt... It was a great and sad movie. Thanks for uploading it.

  • that was the saddest movie i have probably ever seen. i was literally crying half the time. everything about it was sad T_T

  • @tenglis this and AI are the sadest movies ive seen

  • I understand were the aunt was coming from. When she had so many mouths to feed with little money and food... take some out and most are fine. the loners have to fend for themself. She also lost her husband and she went alittle off. So did Seita when his sis died. So much to do. Feed his mouth tope his sick sis. Its all the same. don't blame anyone. Its saying the only fittes can survive. You most likely don't understand becuse u weren't in it so shut your mouth! domo arigato.

  • @jojorocks0099 Sorry but I have to disagree. She was just cold hearted. When children die because of selfishness, the ends do NOT justify the means. Even telling those poor kids they wouldn't even use her water...such bullshit.

  • I still say the aunt is an evil bitch, war or no war. I know what it is like to go hungry, and to do that to a child is just inexcusable. I can't do anything about anyone starving far from me, but if someone is near me and hungry, I don't care, they eat, and I have had hard times and managed not just to feed my kids but neighbor kids that were hungry that would play with my kids. This is the saddest movie I have seen in years, and am very sad now that I have watched it. :*(

  • a touching movie and anime.... i hope this will be releassed in german too...

  • this is a good ending i like it a bit better than the anime but the anime is still amazing

  • Lots of people wrote in comments that Aunt only wanted to protect her children. It's normall that she wanted to feed her kids first, she was mather and It's understandable BUT from the other hand as a mather I would never wanted my kids to be abandoned for certain death by my close or distant relative. What if the aunt died and her kids left alone? I know. You can't win...someone will die at the end anyway....it's terrible!!!! :'( No more War!! We all people we should pray for it every day.

  • we're lucky were living now at the present... but still there's a lot of children are dying co'z of war and hungered. they said this was a true story! we can say that japanese are the bad ones, but we didn't really know that. most of them are just victims of war. everyone fights to survive and defending their own country.

  • The japanese love honor did't you see it in the movie? And were the one's starting it (Americans). Were the one's putting bombs on country's for one reason or another. most are for gas and oil. But the Japanese are trying to make themselfs better thats all. and sorry if i sound cocky just making an point.

  • this story we live in it here in balestine every time so we geat use to sad and danger so i'm sory there's no tears come out but i fealt that this story is like our story but we live it in the dayle life ...... i say so we don't be forgaten in this hell world .

  • it's such an nice and sad movie! i've cried so much, in the anime and now in this film too. i find it great, that they end this film with the relation to the present, that many children live such a tragedy too.

the next days, i will get the book and i'm very excited, how this one is.

  • the only film that me cry :'( this film makes me want to be nice and kind to people everyday from now

  • I cried so much, a great movie. The best

  • *sniff sniff* man this movie was good i thought i was gona make it...but i got tears nice movie

  • such a good movie! this one made me cry sooo much! the anime one didnt make me cry. but this you can see so much emotion from the characters and you can understand them better! for example when he was begging for food for his sister that had me balling :((((

  • thank you for uploading and sharing this video.. i really appreciated this movie...

  • AMAZING <3

.. I think for me, this was much more sad because I already knew what was going to happen (because of anime) so it made everything seem so much more important...

Like when the husbands were leaving for war... :(

    *sigh~ I love this movie :')

  • thumbs up for me! I manage to holp back my tears through out the movie. what a wonderful movie

  • An Amazing movie! I absolutely loved the end! You can't shed this many tears over any american movie! (except the few)

  • 川に骨を投げるのはちょっと

  • did anyine else notice those kids during the end credits with the guns?

  • I can't stop crying! I fraggin' hate war! I hate the way everyone, absolutely everyone suffer! IT'S NOT FAIR!

  • uwaa...compared to the anime i cried so much in those past 5 parts. * still holing on the kleenex* Thanx a lot!!

  • @shadowalchemist24 Me too! The anime was sad, but this seemed like 10x sadder.

  • Comment removed

  • so sad...

  • after seeing both the movies it made me sad and hate america alittle. Why do they have to kill innocent children?

  • @josefu0 I guess killing innocent applies to both sides too..this is how awful the war is D:

  • @josefu0 you do realize the extent of Japanes war crimes in the rest of the Pacific theatre...

  • @Sredit ya. they did invaded my homeland. and we killed them. o well. we kicked the japanese ass.

  • @josefu0

Can't you see that the whole point of this film is to show young viewers who never experienced war

and show how brutal and cruel war is. Obviously we started the war in the pacific but we had suffered

huge numbers of casualties and it is most important for both sides to learn from the past.

    Don't you agree?

  • @josefu0 You forget that innocent children were killed by both sides. The Japanese soldiers killed many innocents, so did the Germans and yes, the Noth Americans too, as well as many more soldiers from other countries. Unfortunately that is what war means. There were just as many North American children who died the same way. It wasn't just Japan who was starving but the whole world at that time. But that's not the point of this movie. The point was to show that there was suffering on both sides.

  • @BlueNeko1 Your right. this was the first movie that made me cry and get all dramatic.

  • @josefu0

Well, you shouldn't specifically hate them. Many different countries have killed people in wars.

  • @josefu0 Innocent children were killed by both sides. If this movie made you hate America a little, you have missed the movie's point entirely.

  • @Slightlybaka i was being emotional. i had no idea that was the point. being sad is like being angry. Your not clear over what your thinking.

  • @josefu0 It's okay, I understand. Japan WAS in the wrong this time, as they were siding with Germany and...

  • damn make me cry.. but not in my mood to cry..

  • the ending shows real children who are in countries that have war to remind the audience that what happened to Japanese children in 1940-1945 still happens today in other countries

  • Nice ending....lol why was some kid holding a gun?? I like the anime better, not so much of this live action version...to much focusing on the aunt and her perspective...i don't like her >_>

  • @an1me its from his cousins perspective....not the aunt

  • The live action version is also powerful...the cartoon is amazing as well!

  • which one did u cry more? the anime version or this one? for me its this one.

  • Having watched both the Anime version and this version back to back I guess you can imagine the amount of tissues I went through. Through out both versions I also took time to read comments. the small disagreements among each other dealing with the aunt, and the tearful remorse when the really detrimental scenes hit I think provides enough of a point. They were both good.

What it all comes down to for me is this: Both were good, both made me cry, and both had an impact and left a message.

  • @Cherrybliss9XP just got done wathcing this and i didnt cry thats cuz i wasnt in the mood and the movie wasnt really original as the anime

  • @Cherrybliss9XP the first time i watched this story was the animated version, and through the whole animated movie tho it was good, i kept saying to myself that i think more of the emotions, imagery, tone etc would be enhanced more effective with real life people and places...then when i got som wiki info i realized that this version exists...and as expected i felt the full impact of the storyline through the use live action

  • AW! Cute kitty at 3:30-3:32! And it's all like, "Am I getting paid for this?" <3

  • The anime ending was more depressing, but this is still a tear jerker :(..

  • Truly makes me sob and cry every single time i watch it xD

so ironic how seita dies a month AFTER the war ends...

  • @moonlight72minuet

he only dies in the live action and anime.

in real live he whrote a book that became this live action and anime.

    yes, i vaguely remmembered.

he said something like he died on that day. because he regretted he survived i think. and his sis died.

  • seriously?!?! so does that mean this is like based on a true story??

  • @moonlight72minuet

yes, it was based on a true story.

    on a diary like book.

the little sister is now on fruitdrop cans.

i think in memory becaus she caried it allways with her.

  • omggggg thats so cool (that shes being remembered on the fruitdrop cans) but then again its not cuz theyre like using her story as advertisement O.o....and i wouldnt be surprised that other people had similar stories during the war too, but like, i didnt think this was a real story itself xD anyways, thanks for the info!!

  • it was a real story trust me.

  • hey is the name of the book the same? and whats the author's name??

i saw both the anime and this live version and i would love to read the book!!!

    =]

  • @StrawberryGun500 it says this drama if fictional at 4:50

  • @moonlight72minuet but it says int the end that "this drama is fictional" 4:50

  • OHH you're right! But what about what StrawberryGun500 said?? I'll have to look that up xD

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh ToT

  • Best live action film about war ever made.

  • i cried so much and this is such a sad story and plz let there be no more war.Plz lets hope children are not dying like this.

  • This really broke my heart. D:

Amazing movie and I asked my history teacher if we can watch this since we're learning about WW2 atm and how the Americans bombed Japan. She said she has to watch it first and hopefully she'll say yes. ;D

But I have a feeling I'll be sobbing in class...

  • It was very painful and hard to watch this, because it really showed what kids about the same age as me had to go through just to survive. I actually started feeling a littlebit ashamed of myself. Always wanting something, but still there is anything that could satisfy. I just cannot understand how much they had to suffer, it is out of my imagination, the pain.

  • Not the best live action film in the world, but still a great film :). In my opinion I'd say the anime version of Grave of the Fireflies packs more of a emotional punch on me.

  • SHAME ON YOU AMERICA killing inocent irak and paquistan childrens. in a non sence war.

  • God bless us all^___^

  • this was an impressive re-telling of the movie, though in my view the movie is still much better. but I don't get why they show a child with a picture of Yassar Arafat at the end. Arafat was a terrorist who shook Clinton's hand and used his other hand to send out young boys to blow themselves up...not a hero for children if you ask me.

  • A great movie

  • SAY NO MORE WAR.....LET THERE BE PEACE IN THIS WORLD!! I certainly be an anti-war person..and would definitely oppose WAR..STOP the WAR and let there be a PEACEFUL resolution!! GOD BLESS US ALL!!

  • wow it was so painfull to watch but it was so good i could't stop

  • this is the most sad movie i've ever seen.

  • It's impossible not crying.

    No more wars...never. Please!

  • U, __ ,U

  • this movie is not bad. the anime of this movie was much more powerful than this was. but thats just me. if you liked this movie, check out the 1988 animated film.

  • =[ *tears* wonderful movie!!

  • wtf??how f-ing sad this whole movie is!!wow!!it actually hurts!!how awful and cruel war is!!

  • If somebody makes a music video out of this, then the pefect song for this movie would be "Heal the wolrd" by Michael Jackson.

    They're the pefect match. T_T

  • A very spitualist and important message to all generations.

  • Tear on my face
