  • ah, I wanna kill that mom

  • wow, she's alot like me, I started at 114, and I get rid of my food the same way... weird seeing yourself in a film... she's an amazing actress though in the movie!

  • why did she pour the milk before the cereal? aha am i the only one who finds that weird? O.o

  • @moomoo101ify no i find it odd as well

  • Always loved that mouth hanging open, incredulous sort of expression Tracey always makes in a lot of her various gigs. That's the Carol Seaver face, especially whenever one of her brothers pissed her off, like usual. :p

  • God her mom's a controlling bitch.

  • Tracy Gold... haha

  • im 115 around pounds..that is not 115 pounds..if i had her body.. i wouldnt be so worried of how i eat and how much i excerzise-.-

  • what do her brothers do??

  • @TSGLFsTar

Anything can trigger an E.D. She was separating from her family moving to college where she DIDN'T want to go in the first place. ONE small thing can trigger it.

  • 6:40 to 6:45 What kind of a weird face was that?

  • Man, I would have LOVED to have my own room in college. You never know what kind of crazy person they randomly pair you up with. This mom is way too pushy.

  • If college is about meeting new people and having fun, then WHY is there so much reading and homework that gives you NO time for that??

  • @JamaicanRain well they expect your old enough to manage your time. College is about experiencing new things- what you want to persue. really it is about education, but some people take it too far with the social aspects and end up failing out of college.

  • Ugh. Her mom tells her what to think, what to feel, what to do. She allows her no sense of autonomy.

  • my mom is just like that

  • I have anorexia and I wouldn't turn away a night of bowling. There are ways to avoid food.

  • @jkseiden yes but like bulimia, and anoriexia after a while you get sick and tierd of coming up with excuses, and you fear people will catch on, its alot easier having your own routine- that allows you to be by yourself with your dissorder. Just like a drug habit. I hope you find help- admitting it is the first step ( i was anorexic and bulimic for 8 years, i still now restrict food- but im not half as bad as i was)

  • Holy shit, it's the woman from Running with Scissors. I'm liking this movie 10x more already.

  • I hate the mom in this movie. No joke

  • Her mom is SO annoying.

  • Ugh, that frieken music is annoying!

  • "u look like u cud use a ride" --___--

  • "Why would you wanna live alone?" I don't get when he says that, I would have said back, "Why would I wanna live with a stranger?"

  • I love the angle of this movie (as aposed to all those dancer/gymnest movies about EDs) moving, college, life changes are all huge triggers for EDs and its rarely explored. I just wish there were more modern movies, and from this angle. This one is so... dated.

  • i couldn't have my desk by the window. I get distracted so easily I would never get my homework done. I would always be looking out the window and watching everything going on

  • For those saying the actress (Tracey Gold) was fighting against a cancer: that's just not true, and certainly she didn't die from one! She was actually recovering from anorexia, and decided to act in the movie to raise awareness about eating disorders...

  • @ely131 You do realize people aren´t talking about Tracy Gold having cancer but the actress playing her mother...

  • does the mom ever shut the fuck up? plus her voice is so damn annoying n high pitch..i think id starve myself and hope for the worst too :S

  • Geez! Her mom is SO overbearing! No wonder she's anorexic and OCD!

  • Ok seriously, the mom looks way more anorexic.

  • @lanarei The actress was suffering from cancer at the time of the filming of the movie. May she Rest In Peace.

  • @JemixShanie Oh dear. I wasn't aware that she was suffering from life-threatening cancer at that time, but I did notice how thin she was in this film. She had a lot of guts---continuing to work as long as she could before succumbing to that horrible disease. I admire that.

  • The same thing that happened to nancy and her mum happened to me and my mom :( She just cared a lot but it was annoying. Afterwards I came to realize she just missed me and she was helping instead of being annoying, I just got annoyed xD

  • Am I the only one who doesn't jog o: ?

  • i think the symptoms were coming from when she got her dress and she was staring into the mirror she might have felt "fat" sorry to use that word

  • Comment removed

  • she can not eat for three days in a row.

  • I get why anorexia might develop in this context, its just that it doesn't develop as quickly. Starts with leaving out certain foods, to extreme dieting...NOT with suddenly deciding not to eat.

  • she has to share a dorm so she... developes anorexia?

  • @ihave90days She has anorexia so she wants to be alone

  • that seems like a HUGE dormroom

  • Well I'd want my own room too. I don't see anythng wrong with that.

  • that thing she keeps doing with her mouth is really annoying -.-

  • Hate the mom wtf let her pick the room she wants bitch stop talking

  • "I'm sorry I've been acting pretty crappy lately".

Typical Anorexic to normal person conversation...

    Ugh. I hate that conversation.

  • Comment removed

  • its all about portion control

  • The college scenes are hard to look at because that is exactly how I felt in college. That had to be the most depressing time of my life, lol.

  • @siennavine81 I know..its terrifying

  • nancy's mom is like my mom xD very controlling...even with what i eat. Afterwards I learned that she does it because she loves me. A lot! So I started to change the ways I thought about my mom. She really does care <3 <3 I love her :'3

  • was one of the brother's in 90210

  • @1477krystal I think it's Zack from saved by the bell.

  • i like tracey gold alot shes a great person:)

  • OMG her mom is JUST like my mom...and im just like nancy!! esp when her mom was talking about the dorms and how she should meet new ppl...ugh reminds me of my mom

  • Saw this in my health class. needless to say I ate a whole pizza when I gothome!

  • Just realised that it's the 3rd time I'm watching this movie in maybe 3 days haha !

  • I get she wants her own room so she can be more alone with her eating disorder, but that aside, I totally understand the need for your room and private space. I could never live in a college dorm, nevermind share a room with someone and a bathroom wiht a bunch of other people. People need privacy, and you could never have it in that setting. I can't see how anyone would ever survive it.

  • am i the only one who doesn't get where all her E.D. sympthoms are coming from??

  • @TSGLFsTar ahaha i totally agree with you, they just poped outa nowhere. From the beginning of the movie i thought she may have been some sort of runner, trying to be faster....but no BOOM ed

  • @TSGLFsTar - she doesn't want to grow up, which is causing some of her ED symptoms.

  • @TSGLFsTar yeah i agree its almost like she just woke up one day saying "im gonna be anorexic"

  • @TSGLFsTar To me, it's obvious. Control issues. Mom has tried to control every aspect of daughter's life (still doing it at 18). The daughter now feels that what she eats & weighs is the only aspect of her life that SHE can control. As a lifelong overeater myself, I can oddly relate. I was raised to always be so perfect in every aspect of my life, always be the responsible one, never be careless or make mistakes. Eating too much & the wrong things has become my only source of rebellion.

  • @HippyWitchGal I agree, it is pretty obvious by the way she reacted to her mother calling the school and what not. Plus it is statistically shown the young adults leaving home for the first time have higher incidences of developing eating disorders and depression at times.

  • @HippyWitchGal me too :((... sometimes i just can't stop eating. it's so embarassing. i don't know what to do. i'm even in denial about it as i'm talking. part of me thinks that i don't eat alot and that i don't eat bad things. i just don't know.

  • @TSGLFsTar Because she's afraid of growing up and moving on. Her life is changing and she fears that she can't control what's happening so she uses food (or lack of it) and exercise to help herself find a sense of control. On top of that, her mother tries to make decisions for her and push her into things so she hides behind losing weight.

  • @TSGLFsTar I completely agree with @megnatsar77's explanation. Also that and having her teeth pulled. I was already in recovery when I got my teeth pulled but it caused me to take 10 steps backward in my recovery. I just became re-addicted to the feeling of emptiness and the weight loss.

  • @TSGLFsTar Family pressures, possibly. She probably must feel that her family expects a lot from her and she doesn't believe in herself... scared to disappoint. Scared to grow up. She didn't seem too ecstatic about Prom ending and heading off to college. She's a scared girl. I'm the same exact way...

  • @TSGLFsTar I think it's from her overbearing mother and probably the fact that she doesn't feel ready to go to college. The stress caused her E.D.

  • @TSGLFsTar her moms pretty annoying for starters lol, and I think its probably the whole stress of moving/growing up/becoming independent...

  • @TSGLFsTar me too :')

  • @TSGLFsTar My mom is exactly the same, but it's just me and my mom. I totally get it. She wants control over he own life. Everything else has been decided for her by her mom, this is something she has the ability to control.

  • @dcmusicofthenight: I agree and I know all these things for a fact.....

  • @TSGLFsTar She wants things to stay how they are. Some anorexics do it to stay young, or so they think.

  • @TSGLFsTar They probably came from the stress of going to college. That's what happened to me. It's partly because of her major OCD and her controlling mom.

  • @ThinkitDontsayit78 I agree, but it make u wonder if she always had the OCD- i bet the eating dissorder develops first, than the OCD, the only time she really showed symptoms of OCD is with organizing her hairbrushes ( just a slight glympse of the dissorder) and her running- which could just be linked to the eating dissorder alone. but i agree, her mom is way too overbearing

  • @TSGLFsTar no you arnt, at first i didnt get it, but if you pay close attention its because everything around her is changeing, her mother controlls her life (or attempts to ) and doesnt let nancy make her own decisions, her mother ridicuols her when she tries too. nancy felt as though the only thing she could controll was her eating- so she controlled it to her best efforts (restricting food)

  • These f*cking suburban Parents man...geez!!

  • God her mom is annoying!!!

  • @smallpea8 :agree!

  • aw what a good brother..he knew all along she had an E.D- he just didnt want to cause more stress for her...:( :')

  • @smallpea8 my mum exactly like that

  • @smallpea8: She is....She is so controlling and so overbearing. She doesn't know everything. This is why Nancy has an ED; partly (mostly) because of her mom and because of pre-college jitters and stress about the future.

  • The mom is eating cookies, how could she eat and maintain skinny, while her daughter can't.

  • @Rikaaw but the girl was quite slender in beginning too, not as skinny as the mom, but definitely fine... her problem wasn´t really with her body, it was all the college stuff, changing things, growing up...

  • @TarAncalyme Yes i just think you're right.I think Nancy is terrified by her future and refuses to grow up,she is afraid of changing things she's not comforted. Her body is not the real problem,it is her future which worries her.

  • people like her can also have depression or bipolar disorder...her problem with growing up became anorexia..pressure leads you down this type of road as well..her mom and life created too much pressure to deal with in her life..i understand because i have a mother similiar to hers, very opinionated and thinks she knows all..she also chooses to ignore her daughters issues,,i get it.

  • OMG those girls are soooo fake! Ugh! They started talking about her as soon as she left. I don't like people like that. Ugh!

  • @lenamay521 it happens...:-(

  • the first tme on the scale starts it all

  • What is with this movie and pizza? lol!

  • im so confused as to what actually made her want for losing weight.

  • @iCraveWildness Well to start with, her mum is super controlling, so she doesn't have control when her mum is around, and the change of moving from high school to university is a huge change. That's enough if you're insecure and a perfectionist/obsessive.

  • @WeDealxoxCamisado ahh, thanks, i think i commented too soon into it, it was clearer later in.

  • @iCraveWildness She was confused and scared about her future and the fact that she will be separated from her family.

In conclusion she was scared of growing up

  • @iCraveWildness 3:56 "It's so weird thinking about a NEW LIFE"

  • thats so wrong they dont even know nancy or hanged out with her and they are calling her weird just because she didnt want to hang out with their imature asses.

  • The main character is actress Tracy Gold who was actually a recovering anorexic.

  • I dont agree. im a very strong minded person. and i always get what i want and work hard and..ive been dealing with anorexia for almost two years now. and im a guy. but that doesnt matter guy or girl.

  • @Julianodrama i agree with you people get anorexia are most likely strong minded and can control things or organized.

  • @34099832 Thank youuuuuuu!!

  • @Julianodrama your welcome you just got to let people know what they are saying its like to me dont say something and you havent research it. because anorexia most likely happens with people who do good in school and are well organized and are in control but they feel they lose control so they control their wieght. anorexia happens with strong minded people.

  • I know anorexia is a disease. But I still think it's a stupid disease. It's a disease that weak-minded, impressionable people get.

  • @godzillaqueen anorexia isnt a disease for weak people okay especially its a disease for strong in order people. people that are organized and usually have control but sometimes they feel like they can't control anything and things are spiraling out of control so in actually they start controling their weight so they can feel they are in charge of their life. people who are fat in todays society is thought upon as weak minded because they show no control. think before you speak or research.

  • Comment removed

  • @godzillaqueen not really...i know someone who has it and you would never know behind the strong minded and in control personality she has.

  • I don't really understand why she stopped eating in the first place. Was it a control thing or a weight thing?

  • @shazie1436 Control thing

  • @shazie1436 it was a control thing. Kids or teenagers have a higher risk of developing anorexia or bulimia if their parents are divorced than kids who's parents are together because kids with divorce parents feel they have no control over what happens in their house hold and they cant control anything so they control their weight.

  • WTF MILK FIRST?! WRONGWRONGWRONG!

  • @FrightfullyAdelia

Yea I was thinking that too, I usually pour cereal in the bowl first!

  • @FrightfullyAdelia Wasn't there already cereal in the bowl?

    =]

  • @FrightfullyAdelia what u mean?

  • Who's been telling that girl she's fat?

  • oh my god, im getting hungry watching this......

  • her mom is so....so.....ANNOYING!!! my mom is also like that, she overproctecs me and she likes to have me under her control...well, she used to, i've had bulimia for 9 years and after a lot of therapy she understood that being like that doesn't help me at all, so i don't let her do things like that anymore, but it's hard when you're sick and can't find the strength to stop it (i'm good now, i have my bad days but i haven't had a relapsed in...almost 3 years now =)

  • I really like the music so far..

  • I remember watching this in health class in the 9th grade.

  • the mom is a bit annoying but haha she reminds me of my own mom, and i know she's just worried about her daughter. :) i love the brother!

  • I remember when they showed this movie to us in the 7th grade. They were trying to help, but I wasn't the only girl who picked up a ton of new tips and tricks afterward.

  • the organizing is such a nightmare for anyone someitmes its all you think about

  • Her Mother should have "lightened up" some on her, she's too domineering.

  • Comment removed

  • KEEP THE SINGLE ROOM! DO NOT PLAY ROOMMATE ROULETTE! YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT KIND OF CRAZIES YOU'LL BE SHACKED UP WITH! AVOID BEING LOCKED IN WITH TERROR!!! Or take your chances...you may end up with a lifelong best friend...but...beware...

Good movie dealing with such serious subject matter. Calls awareness to those who don't understand.

  • In her case, I still don't understand what specifically caused her anorexia to start.

  • @WithAVoiceOfAnAngel3 Just a conjecture, but it seems like it stems from depression and feeling like she has no control of her life. Depression already causes you to want to avoid people and loose your appetite. Then in terms of control, every little thing is changing in her life and she's being pressured from all sides. It seems like maybe she just sort of fell into it with her wisdom teeth being the catalyst...

  • @JFrancesFrancisJ

depression can also cause you to gain weight. I couldn't stop eating during my depression.

It's getting better now but I still have my off-days.

  • @dingetje Very true. Depression really is different for everyone, I suppose. When I had it, I was never hungry. I could only stomach a bowl of peach yogurt for most of my meals. Plain steamed rice as well. I'm sorry you had to go through depression, but I'm so glad you're feeling better and I hope your off days disappear.

  • Thank God my mom is not like that!!!

  • her room is HUGE, i mean for a colledge campus? wow!

  • geesh... kinda judgemental those girls are.. callin her weird? whats so weird about bein a lil independent and introverted?

  • her mother gives positive feedback saying she will be fine cause she believes in her... what is wrong with that?

  • DANG. I wish my room on campus was that big.

  • Comment removed

  • wats up with her mom making decisions for her???

  • they casted a shit actress to play the mum eughh..her acting is shit..not very motherly at all

  • @righteous09 I think that's the point.

  • @thechristacular ..yeah i guess they didn't wanna stereotype the mother role..but i dunno, i just thought they could've picked a better actress to suit the role more

  • OMG I HATE HER MUM!

  • UGH that MOTHER drives me BONKERS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh my! A grown women who doesn't eat breakfast, call the hospital.

  • RIP Jill Clayburgh

  • My mom's an exact resemblance of this lady, I wasn't aware that she was such a bitch according to the world, I just assumed I was a crabby teenager who hates her mom :)

  • If my mom had acted like that to me and invited MY friend over without asking, I would have yelled at her. Nancy's right. It's her job to invite her friends over, not her mother's. This movie makes me thankful for my mother.

  • @HououMinamino that happened to me and I came walking into my parents house (while friend was there waiting) with another friend and the two of the didn't get along.. very awkward. i was 14 so it was a long time ago, but i think my mom did it to be nice and enjoyed and liked most of my friends.

  • Is the brown haired boy her brother too?

  • Ah, you just have to love these cheesy made for TV movies!

  • 120... gosh i feel fat watching this lol

  • @TiNa2927 I know right

  • @TiNa2927 stop, I'm actually 120 and although my body looks ok, my arms are similar to that of an anorexic and I dont starve myself, maybe I outta put on a few pounds

  • @mandybarr80

well the actress that plays Nancy is pretty short..like 5'1"

    it all depends on height!

  • @TiNa2927 - but she's only like 5 feet tall.

  • Ugh, that mom is such an overbearing bitch. No wonder Nancy wants control in her life.

  • @Funtabulosity329

The mom is not a bitch. She's definitely controlling, but she thinks she's doing what's best for her daughter. She's so used to Nancy just agreeing with her that she didn't realize Nancy has opinions of her own.

  • her brother is old 90210 actor

  • @pacificyellowmermaid

no he is from Save by the Bell, not 90210

  • @Kalinicentral one brother cameron bancroft played in bh 90210 and the other one mark paul gosselaar played in saved by the bell so you are both right

  • after watching this movie like... 6 times, i still don't understand the mother's logic behind going downstairs.

how is going downstairs to a loud, overbearing mother going to make her feel better about everything?

  • is this the dude of 90210?

  • @pacificyellowmermaid

    which dude?

  • the thing just start somehow...... I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun...

  • her mom is a pain in the ass!

  • The mom is an overbearing bitch.

  • This is a life time movie??

    Right?

    I think so?

  • @coolnicky100 it actually was an ABC Movie of the Week from 1994.

  • her mom is a pain in the butt. i wouldnt be able to deal with that. lol

  • is the blonde guy at 4:39 the guy who played ZAC in saved by the bell ??

  • @666BeautyFromPain666 Yes he is :)

  • @666BeautyFromPain666 Yep it is.

  • lol "debbie called, she's on her way over...how did that happen?"

  • I know I've heard of some people having anorexia because they want to stay like children forever so they don't want to grow...food makes you grow hence they stop eating it because with adulthood comes lots of responsibilities, on the other hand being a child is pure, innocent and free. Some people with ana seek that because they are too afraid to face the future. It's not always about being fat or thin.

  • @Mimibie And they always pathologize that with Freud, that it's also a fear of sexuality. I hated my therapist for that. After admitting the reveal of my body during intercourse kept me from enjoying it, he insisted I was actually scared of penetration. Uh, no, I like that very much. Just didn't want my partner putting his hands on my stomach or looking at my ass, very simple.

  • @ideoplastic That's why i really HATE therapists or similar cause they talk as if they know EVERYTHING about you and you tell them straight forward exactly how you feel and they come up with some random completely out of the box theory about some irrelevant stuff and when you try to reexplain what's really happening they look as you like your some idiot and you know nothing about anything.

  • i don't understand... she just suddenly started not eating what the heck
