At the moment one of my prefered "Heart voice on Earth" and not only, the kind of words of this song!!! About the music, the kind of chords used in his music are fantastic on the guitar! In one word, for me, the artist who should be on first page everywhere, just because of his feeling & meaningful words of his songs, that's what we need, which are the mirror of his personality!
I love Gino, i was 15yrs old when i first heard him and fell crazy in love with him, Saw him in concert here in DFW i believe in 78-79?..still crazy about him! what happened to his Brothers? Joe n Ross?...Is Gino still married? ( i was supposed to Marry him..haha) i know he's got a son, what does he do, is he following his dad's footsteps?..Please Gino it's been a long time since i seen you in concert ~Come to Dallas, TX!!
Can you say TIGHT. The reason we can listen to these songs over and over again is because there are NO flaws. This is not easy music to play. Lots of time changes. Saw him twice in the 70's. I have seen many concerts since the 60's and Gino is one of the top 2 ever.
WOW..that is so cool. I love meeting some of the musical greats family members I have known. They will often tell you more about the artist than they themselves would ever tell. Thanks for sharing this. I will live to see him live if he ever comes to the United States. While we are discussing the "album" you so graciously present, I assume the blonde under Gino's arm is his wife/companion? She's quite stunning.
Everytime I watch this I see something new...as a drummer I am surprised to find Zildjian bass head...cool! I am addicted and admit it! Interesting group photo of one man with like 4 women (2:59)...Vanelli's?
LOL, that photo was taken after the concert at the Montreal Jazz Fest in July, 2008. The man is Gino's Uncle Vic who was very gracious to us....As for the four women, it is me and three of my Gino friends.....
Everytime I watch this I see something new...asa drummer I am surprised to find Zildjian bass head...cool! I am addicted and admit it! Interesting group photo of one man with like 4 women...Vanelli's?
I agree, wholeheartedly, with you mary71257. "Storm at Sunup" was both jazzy, sexy, and refreshing from all the other stuff that was being put out in the late 70's.The followup "Crazy Life" was a diamond too. I was always impressed with Gino's family references in his music and his brother's participation in this phase of his recording. I particularly appreciate the "live" aspect of this son, and just bought a cd copy. Thanks.
Wow Mary, where did you get this recording? This is a song rarely done live by Gino! But it is a favorite of many of his fans, including me! This definitely sounds like it came out recently, in the last few yrs at least! Nice catch!
Oh this is from the cd "Live In Montreal, released in 1991, it's hard to find, but it is FANTASTIC, it was his comeback concert, so it has been out for quite a while. Hope you can buy a copy somewhere.....
You know a "professional" when he/she saounds as goo dor better than on disc! He never seems to visit the lower Americas, and never the US South from what I see. He is the best "fusion" singer out there and far too rarely seen. Sade gets away with doing the very few hits she had, year after year...Gino we need you! I did not know he played druns..thanks for the post.
Yes, he started by playing drums at a young age. His favorite was Gene Krupa...I saw him 2 nights at a show in New Orleans in 2008, Vegas in 2009, and Niagara Falls at The Seneca Casino in 2009 and 2010, and in Montreal in 2008. He will be playing on July 30th in Atlantic City and there is a "Gino Cruise in December for 7 nights sailing the Eastern Caribbean, there will be three shows of his on the cruise, I can't wait !!

This is the kind of stuff Gino should be producing now. Wow..! Tight performance and this is an audience that really apreciates him. Just listen to that crowd at the end! I personaly don't like the direction in musical style that Gino had to take since the 80's. We have the music industry to blame for that. He's still great, but what he produced in the 70's is still unserpassed. Times and music I'll greatly miss. Thank you for this post!
Thank you for the comment, also FYI, tickets are now on sale for 2 nights of Gino on Oct 8th and 9th at the Bear's Den at the Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls, Ny, it's a great venue !!!
Thank you so much for the comment !!!! Tickets are now on sale for Gino concerts on Oct 8th and 9th at the Bear's Den at the Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls, NY, it's a great venue...
You are very welcome !!!! Do you know that tickets are on sale for 2 concerts at the Bear's Den at the Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls NY? As far as I know tickets are still available, the venue is very nice, I was there last year, check it out, the dates are Oct 8th and 9th......

Mary, so glad you posted this. It is my all time favorite also. I watched Walter Farina's Video of this. Not terrific like Gino's version but fun to watch. Thanks again my friend. Patsea
Thank you sooo much for the comment !!! I watched Walter Farina's video too. it was good, but not our Gino, lol....No one will ever compare to him....That's for sure.....Oh, how I love this song, and can it really be 35 years since we first heard it?! I am glad you enjoyed the video.....
I just wanted you to know that he will be in concert on Oct 8th and 9th at the Bear's Den at the Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls NY, hope you have a chance to go.....
Picture it...my high school years...multi colored Volkswagen...with Gino blasting on the "in-dash" cassette player...nobody understood...they just knew what would be playing on the stereo when they got in my car!!
Oh I can picture it, lol, and yep. would have understood..lol....We always played 8 tracks in the car around here though....lol...Once a Gino fan, you are hooked for life....LOL...
the 1st time i heard gino Vannelli was on the radio in the early 70s the dj said i am now going to play 6 minutes of the best music imaginable it was this track and he was right i have been a total fan ever since! many thanks for posting.
enzo is a great drummer but I don't like what he does on this tune! Graham Lear's playing on the original recording is so MUSICAL that it's truly embedded in the song. I want to hear the same treatment in the drum breaks. This doesn't lead the listener's ear.
It's a fantastic song and I love Gino! I have huge respect for it
I have been listening to this album since I was 5 years old...one of my all time favorite albums and favorite songs ever. thanx so much for posting this!!
You are very welcome !!!!! I am glad you enjoy the video, it is my all time favorite Gino song, it's great to meet other fans who love and appreciate him and his music as much as I do......
That's a good question, we never know where he will be playing. He spends half of the year in Holland, I do know he is planning on touring Canada in 2010. I went to Las Vegas and Niagara Falls this year to see him, it is well worth spending the money to go to a concert, you will never regret it !!!!
I love this song!!! It's one of my favorites. To see him do it live in the 70's with those synthesizers was totally out of this world..I'm going to see him tonight at the casino in Niagara Falls!! I'm so excited because I haven't seen him since 2006..BRAVO GINO!!!
Oh yeah, I wish I could have been to a live concert in the '70s. My sister got to see him back in '79...I have been a big fan since '75 and FINALLY have been to concerts in Montreal, New Orleans and Niagara Falls....Hope you enjoyed the Niagara Falls concert....Have you ordered "The Best And Beyond" yet? It's fantastic and his book about the songs is supposed to be released by Christmas.....
I bought this album when it came out in the 70's at a live voncert in Berkeley, CA. My friends I were invited backstage where we met Gino and the other musicians. It was a great time! This song was so powerful with all its energy.
Happy 57th Birthaday to Gino!!!! Your music is timeless and thanks for all the happiness it has brought me since 1975....I have all of your cd's and I treasure all of them..It was heaven to attend 3 of your concerts last year, and listening to the soundcheck in New Orleans and having front row seats both nights is something I will never forget.......
I couldn't agree more, we were with you on the front row, I believe you took a picture of my wife giving Gino a dozen Roses. As I type this we're going to see him tonight at The Mahalia Jackson Theater here in new Orleans. Hope to see you tonight
Thank you so much for the nice comment, I remember your wife giving Gino the roses, they were beautiful!!!! I am not going to be at the concert tonight, but a good friend of mine is, ENJOY !!!!!! How awesome that you and your wife can enjoy his concerts together !!!!! I am going to Las Vegas and Niagra Falls, so I have to wait 2 more weeks to see him and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!! God Bless both of you !!!!!
Mary, needless to say the show was awesome. I've seen Gino in New Orleans 8 times since 1973 and can honestly says that I;ve never heard his voice better. You're going to love the selections and the horns section on this tour. Travel safely to the shows, and maybe we'll see you in New Orleans next year. Mike and Bari.
I am so glad you and Bari got to see the show in New Orleans, I didn't get to go, but Las Vegas and Niagara Falls made up for that !!!! I brought my oldest daughter to Las Vegas and she got to meet Ross and she loved the concert....Hope to see you both at a concert next year !!!!!!
I have enjoyed your Gino videos for over one year. I love Gino's music as well. I cannot make the NF concert. I live in Boston and hope that he will come closer to this area. I have listened to Gino since 1978. He is quite a performer with a sexy, melodious voice. Keep up the beautiful postings. Have a safe trip and let us know how the concerts were. I am also a "Gino Sista" All of the best to you.
Graci Mary! I've loved Gino's music since 1974 or 1975. He sounds just as wonderful as the first time I heard him. I have many still photos from the B to B concert on 4-5-79 in Norman, OK. Timeless and classy. What a voice!!
Junto con Powerful People, una de las canciones más filosóficas y profundas de Gino por cierto del albúm Storm at sunup, otra de las obras maestras del Sr. Vannelli
Mary, you remind me of my sister. She may be the biggest Gino fan on the planet. She travels all over the states and Canada to see him and always meets up with other "regular" fans. Maybe you have met her. Her name is Cyndi and she's from Pittsburg. I've been a fan since his "Crazy Life" album but really got hooked since "Storm" and Gist". I feel he peaked at "Pauper" but that's just because I loved the long, multi part songs like "War Suite" The stuff that made it to radio was brilliant too!
Its too bad this is the only live album to be released, at least that
I know of. Oh and to the guy who puts this song "probably" in their "top 200" C"MON! Are you kidding?! Id like to see your top 200. One of the best! For sure.
que lindas fotos, nunca pude ver a gino vanelli, vino una vez a la argentina pero jama pude verlo, ojala que venga de nuevo, es un idolo para mi, saludos desde argentina.
Thanks for posting this old favorite. It's probably in my Top 200 favorites; not a great song, perhaps, but a great favorite at least. Mary, I was a senior in high school in 1976 and played the "Storm At Sunup" album over and over--mainly for this song.
Awesome, Mary. Great photos, some of which I've never seen. What a treat for all us Gino fans. Oh, my God -- what a man, what a talent, what a true gift he is to those who love him and his music. Thanks again for all the posts. Hope to see you in New Orleans
WOW!!! mary thanks for posting i love all the pictures. i've been a fan for a long time, i was 13yrs old and my brother gave me my first gino album powerful people and gino is still the greatest.

Hello Mary

Thanks for posting this old favorite. It's probably in my Top 200 favorites; not a great song, perhaps, but a great favorite at least. Mary, I was a senior in high school in 1976 and played the "Storm At Sunup" album over and over--mainly for this song.
