I have been watching and learning from you for over a year now and I can not believe I missed this series.. this is awesome!... I hope to watch more of clips like these.. thank you so much
Very glad to see this demo simon. I saw a bottle like the two fired ones you showed at the start of this video by David Leach in a recently published book - studio Pottery in Britain 1900-2005 byJeffery Jones - check out the brown bottle by David. I thinks its tenmoku/rutile. Its the bottle that got me started on the wheel 2 years ago. It took me a year to learn collaring, etc. Seeing this two-part approach will make it a hell of a lot easier! GREAT to see this form on you tube. Brilliant mate!
Simon, I can't believe I missed these until now. What a beautiful demo, very, very helpful. I had no idea two pieces could be joined in such a way. Your clips just keep on giving.
Really enjoyed this series - I don't know how but I almost missed it and would have had it not been posted on Clayart. It is getting to the point that an index is needed on the home page ;)
Now THAT is a great series of videos! What a wonderful teacher you are! I don't know if people realize it but the latest version of RealPlayer has a pop-up on the video screen as your video is playing that allows you to automatically save the video. Unfortunately, it's still in that darn flv? format so you need realplayer to watch them, but carry the laptop out to the studio and go for it.
I would like to see if you could get your videos available for download so that I could watch them on my iPod or my Zune so that I could watch how you throw compared to what I'm doing wrong. Can't get on youtube at school plus its nice to watch a pottery video while I'm throwing. Just wondering if you could get them on a downloading page or something. If you can or cannot do that please let me know.
Hi -'tubesucker' lets youi download these clips...I did do a CD but have had too little interest in them to continue with doing them .Also getting them burnt in the right format for Europe & US continent gives me a headache !! SL
simon, i was wondering how you got the water out of the middle of this pot, normally if i forget to leave some water in the pot and i had forgotten that i forgot about the water (confusing) i cut it off and the pot's bottom falls though!! Just wondering how you keep your bottoms without mopping up all of the water in it
I'm interested to know what kind of clay you're using Simon. Obviously stoneware and it seems quite 'forgiving' does it have grog added? It appears to be very smooth. Do you use the same clay for all your work? Thanks for all the clips. Karen
Thank you, I will look at the clips three or four more times, screw-up my courage and have a go at it. I am learning more from you on YouTube than any class, book or seminar , a hearty thank you again.
One of these days I'm gonna try my hand at throwing something that big but I intend to leave the top more open as I'm going to use it as an umbrella and walking stick stand in the hall way.

Great series!!! Only recently found your videos and I'm enjoying them loads...thank you so much for sharing so freely and entertainingly!!!
I too did wonder about the water in the bottom of this, is it not a problem due to the dryer clay?

Magic. Thanks.

I always thought you had to use a certain amount of clay to make that, not combine two pots. That's amazing.

That was cool! It was broken up like a 6 part movie; something new to watch every video.
I'm trying to think when I would see someone do this and I can't come up with a time.
