  • hi stranger, how are you?

  • Because it's one of the best pop songs ever written....

  • I can't beleive they don't play this song live anymore!!

  • really?why?

  • my english teacher is the bass player

  • Lets start a campaign to get TCS more airplay! Write, phone, fax and email your local radio station wherever you are in the world requesting there music, particularly this song. The world needs to re-awaken to the amazing lyrics, melodies and musicianship of this great band. I defy anybody to listen to there version of Wild Mountainside and not have a tear in there eye.

  • It would be great to hear more Trash Cans on the radio Mr Blue 6 Music give em an airing now and again but I guess they;re too smart a band for the countless god awful commercial radio stations a new Sinatras album is always an event in my world........Glenn

  • I had a radio show in the spring of 1991 at a local college radio station and played this song a lot. Great memories.

  • Darn, they never play these guys on my 80's station. I feel ripped off.

  • will be there aug 8 2009 in st louis! remember going to bed to this cd/tape in 91. cant wait

  • I heard this song one time on a fading radio station when it was released and it stuck with me all these years. It's rediscovery has been a delight!

  • It's has some sublte tones similar to Elusive Butterfly back in the 70's. This is probably one of my Top 3 songs from the 90's.

  • Soooo melancholy....lluuuuvvv ittt

  • Have loved this band since my early teen's. A Happy Pocket is a great album. Looking forward to seeing them live in 2009!

  • Kin love this track...takes me right back

  • I woke up in my girlfriends bedroom one morning, we put on the radio, this came on. Good music was still being made afterall ;-)

  • speechless

  • Is climactic really a word. I dunno. You understand though people don't you xxxxxx

  • Heart-swelling melody a-go-go. It is so awfully possible that no other song will ever do as much for me as this song does. A million climactic moments.

  • I KNOW THE BASSIST!! I know George, he's my English teacher in S1! He played bass in the school concert, he told us about this band! They're pretty good i have to admit

  • Well God bless him, because this was and is a tremendous song. Meant a lot to me and my girlfriend at the time, and still tugs at my heartstrings today. You're fortunate to have a connection with him.

  • Wow! Brings back memeories of when I and my girlfreind broke up. It was a tough, time but songs like this and good friends cheered me up. Years gone by now, it was a comforting period in my life.

  • Wow, this song reminds me of being 14 & listening to this in the car through my "walkman". Loved it then and still love it!!

  • Quite simply a classic. Fantastic to hear this anytime.

  • S. O. S. HELP

WHERE is the song The Best Man. I can't pull it up anywhere???

  • Best Man's Fall

  • I seduced someone to this tune. Thanks boys! Bloody marvelous. x

  • Loved this so much when it was out I was in my teens. Now Im 40 and still loving it!!!!

  • Uncle managed them when I was a kid as far as im aware, this song was always lying around the house, with the lyrics on the back. Im now 20 and I know all the lyrics still, amazing that it stuck in my head

  • Never heard of them at the time, nice tune though.

  • Brilliant band, cracking debut song (picked up the demo 12" in my younger days - a treasured possession) fantastic that they're still going.

  • We can't wait for the new cd!! This is one of my favourite songs of all time!

  • poetry and a great feel, takes you back to a time of less responsibility and more freedom.

  • what a great band! i luv them forever!!!

  • I think I love this song more now that however many years ago that WFDU played it in the metro NYC area. JFA

  • just heard gideon coe mention he wil be playing something new from them on bbc 6 music :) had to come and listen to this again :)

  • Can't believe I have only just re discovered them after 18 years. It's been a long time. Love them, The Bathers, and The Blue Nile. All criminally underated.

  • An excellent band and they have been going a while now...I supported them in Tamworth staffordshire in the early nineties when music was great and they blew me away..their music is timeless or maybe thats just me !!Ah the good old days Stone roses, pixies, wedding present, the family cat just to mention a few and of course the TCS..

  • oh yeah, awesome band. Finally got a chance to see them when they came thru atlanta a while back. Probably gonna cover one of their songs soon. I broke in on Cake. Incredible album!!

    Thanks for postin.

  • Yes indeed, brilliant work!

  • Hey they are planning on Touring on a new record in 2009 so they haven't disappeared they are a great band that writes great pop songs

  • its is nice to hear their music every time i got a chance brings back my old day as a boy, whooo i getting old but nice to remember the days your younger years no problem just playing with friend having fun i wish i can turn back the clock and get back to the past geee what a blast it would be

  • Jiggs and all others who have commented....My thoughts for what it's worth..... I am 46 - brought up with the Beatles/Stones etc, who speak for themselves. These guys in my opinion however are up there. Possibly the best band from Scotland never to 'make it'. I love these guys and watch them everytime. Also an avid fan of the River Detectives, Silencers, McKenzie's and in my opinion, the finest band ever spawned in Scotland - the sensational Blue Nile ( who have semi 'made it' I think). Ian D

  • you forgot the lost soul band, but I like your taste mate :)

  • Great music its a shame they slipped away like so many bands

of that period. Most played cassette of 1990. Until i broke it

I have not heard this song since that year 18 years ago....

    boy am i old....

  • this is my favourite song of all time xxx

  • This is such a great song! Love it! Thanks for putting it up! I still have my old cassette of this song.

  • This song really opened my eyes to how clever lyrics could be, they are all through this song, "looking at my watch and I'm half past caring", "I'll have too much to say and a dead stupid name!" Brilliant!

  • Yeah, I LOVE this song, this album, everything about it. One of my favorites. They've influenced me musically. Funny thing is that I learned later that the producer was John Leckie! He also produced one of my other favorite albums, THE STONE ROSES debut album. Both of them have a great atmosphere to them.

  • Terrific song! Reminds me of the good old days of music.

  • Great album. Deserved more commercial success.

  • one of the first cd's ever bought (sundays "reading..").. and still one of my alltime favs! love weightlifting too!

  • It knocked. They opened the door. It walked straight in and took up residence... forever.

  • I agree one of the best recordings of the 90's. Easily up there with bands like Ride, The High, Easy etc.

  • One of the best albums of the 90's, in my opinion...

    "I'm playin' blinds man's bluff

    all by myself..

I still play this album for a month at a time every year. Thank you for posting!

  • FUCK i love it

  • Charlottesville, VA circa 1990.....Oh how time flies!

  • The chorus always reminded me of Dum Dum Diddle by abba.

  • Though I ought to be learning I feel like a veteran

Of "Oh I like your poetry but I hate your poems"

Calendars crumble I'm knee deep in numbers

Turned 21, I've twist, I'm bust and wrong again

  • Haven't heard this for years, surprisingly know enough of the lyrics to sing along, must make it a classic then.A great tune from a great album, I'm now off to find an old tape player so I can listen to it all..January's little joke...thanks for posting this.

  • fantastic band, fantastic times - if only I could relive 1990 again :(

  • 1990 was a magical year for me too. many great songs that summer...

  • One of the greatest british pop band. Timeless...

  • I LOVE this band. I saw them in the early '90s in California and the singer's grandma sat at our table. It was so cute!

  • Ha ha hes my step dad il get you his autograph cost you a tenner tho!

  • this is my favourite song of all time!

  • "I like your poetry but I hate your poems"-I've always loved that verse. Great band!

  • Sigh. Max's on Broadway. Soup Dragpms put on a fantastic show there as well. And Medicine/Hair and Skin Trading Company at the 8x10. You probably also remember Calvert Street Cafe, the Grog and Tankard, and The Rev. So many truly "progressive" bands (in the literal sense of the word came through Mobtown back in the day.....

  • The first time i had seen this video was in channel 23 Phils.-Olan

  • I love this record. I have a copy of it somewhere around here. Haven't heard it in years. Saw them live once at Max's on Broadway in Baltimore in 1990 or '91. LOUD. My ears hurt for two days. Great time, though!

  • Hearing Janice Long play this song on Greater London Radio's breakfast show was the only thing that would get me out of bed and ready for school in the early 90s.

  • they are totally different to the smiths. smiths fans have taste. i love this smiths. this band are amazing. work out the logic. this band really really are something and are better than the smiths. there i said it. the best thing that never happened. fantastic. fantastic. fantastic.

  • I Can't Belive It's Not The Smiths!

  • please don't say that. TCS's album Cake is simply one of the best albums of all time...and has a seminole sound that no other college rock band touched during this time.

  • A "Seminole" sound ? What, like a screaming Indian or Florida State Fan ? LOL...But I DO AGREE with you, they ARE a seminal band =) Brilliant album...brings back mamny memories.

  • i brought this cd with me from baton rouge to tallahassee soon after release. worked at a musicland in the mall in BR. seminole sound or not, this album is in the my top 5 of all time. lyrics, melodys, harmonys, song arrangement never gets old... even after 17 years...

  • Thanks for posting this great video from the beginning of 90's. I never get tired to hear once and again this awesome song!

  • Big Country, Waterboys, TCS

  • A real classic, but people should buy 'Weightlifting'. It's as good (if not better than) Cake.

  • totally agree - an ignored gem!

  • truly awesome

  • Great song! Great video! -Matthew Cepican A&R Vesuvius Records

  • chaselby12 - thanks for Rube Goldberg tip, you're right.

    Also see Heath Robinson

  • I love this song! The best jangly guitar-pop has to offer.

  • Oh I'm on a trip down memory lane tonight...can't believe I found the Trashcan Sinatras AND the Hoodoo Gurus....I'm lovin' it!!

  • Ever seen that famous award winning commercial from Honda a couple of years back? Nice to see the creative debt they owe the Sinatras.

That said it's still completely fabulous to hear this again, one of the best Scottish bands ever.

  • The credit would be more appropriately given to Rube Goldberg.

  • awesome album, very under rated band (as most of the good ones are)

  • Holy shit. I love this band. I saw them live in Dallas. I think they're the best. Frank Reader's wicked hot.

  • ma engklish teacher used to be in this

    mr mcdaid

  • Wow, this was one of my favorite songs back in high school, but I never knew who sang it.

  • This has been my favourite song for so many years but have never seen the video before. Video not as good as the song!

  • Though I ought to be learning I feel like a veteran

Of "Oh I like your poetry but I hate your poems"

  • thank you, thank you! I love this band, saw them so many times, how on earth did they not make it big? Criminal.

  • I completely agree. They have so many hits. Cake is the best album of the 90s. Are you from Scotland?

  • haven't heard this forever, thanks for posting

  • Totally agree....Gawd, How awesome they are/were! Haven't heard from them....oh and Check out their version of To Sir With Love! Gives Lulu a run for her money! Much better than her American Idol show!

  • reminds me of jeff butler
