  • so much meat is wasted that way though?

  • Great video on three sides: poachers, irresponsible divers and the great ocean we are so lucky to have and should respect. Unfortunately, where there is money, just like with drugs, one goes another one comes in.

  • my balls itch

  • 1:59 paramedic straddling the victim

If a paramedic student did that in the first week of class they would be reprimanded.

If they did that on the final exam it would be an INSTANT FAIL!

For a working professional paramedic to do that in the field (with no good excuse) is wrong and sad. Back to remedial training for that bozo!!!

  • kiwis eat them like you eat chicken :-) we only allow 10 ea per day, and size is around 5 not 7 like the U.S.

try cooking them in cream yum...

  • A very good piece on Abalone diving. It presents all the good and possible bad points of the pass time. I would like to feature this video on my site if its ok. Also my advice is to dive on flat days and pick a safe spot to enter and exit the water. Also take a dive buddy. This should keep you out of trouble.

For more info, recipes and all things abalone related please visit abaloneinc(.)com

  • for those of you who say that the police just let the meat rot, they don't. it is donated to a food bank with just a hide or shell used for evidence

  • hey I know that one guy !! Jon you are famous !!!

  • so these idiot police assholes just confiscate the abalone and let them rot. way to help the hungry and the environment california. they just seem to care about people making tax free money.

  • here in N Z its 10 paua (abalone) per person per day ... we maaori love to eat them raw yummy as! and the hua(gut bag) yummy too ... clean it out and fry with onions tomatoes

  • bro in new zealand its a mad delicosy i go diving for paua all the time the limit is 9 per person here 125mm they have to be

  • Every time i goes i took over 50 Abalone fuck the Law

  • abalone in oz man, yum yum. shit, we alowed 5 a day

  • abalone in oz man, yum yum

  • Abalone isn't even rare at all!!!!!! (LOL).

  • Mmmmmm Abalone

  • It always makes my day complete to see Fish and Game out there hooking and writing folks..Its sooo simple, just play by the rules like the rest of us and all will be well. Good vid!

  • paua (abalone) there are big... but the population of america and a spot like tht, i cant see it staying around for ever!! the way u cooked it looked yuck azwell... if i eat paua i wanna taste paua, cream and paua put thro a mincer then cooked togetha... mmmmmm th best! :D

  • Very nice meat slicer used for the abalone. Any recommendations on where to purchase one like that????

  • i have a question. why is it illegal to use scuba tanks to hunt for ab?

  • Wildlife management wants to kill off a few ab takers

  • most likely because using scuba tanks, would be much easier to find abalone`s and thats how people would get greedy and slowly they would go extinct.,

  • too easy to get to them, also there is always a deeper population that can continually replenish the shallower abalone that are taken

  • @HOsPoduction Scuba gear is illegal because it makes it too easy to take ab. It also allows divers to go deeper where bigger ab are that are needed for reproduction. If you have any other questions feel free to ask and i will answer them for you.

  • exactly. ab diving only becomes dangerous when weather conditions are poor. Tasmania, best place for rock lobster and ab diving

  • 2:52... wtf are they doing diving in conditions like that? Other than the fact the visibility would be shit... couldn't they wait for a better day???????

  • california coast is scary.. to many white pointers. You would undoubtably see one in a decade spanning career as a diver/poacher.

  • exelent work

  • Divers can take abs in Oregon too and use SCUBA (bums) and there is ONE commercial permit in Oregon too.

  • dumb fucks they are poluting more wraping the abalone with plastic than taking abalone itself

  • They mentioned getting wrapped in Kelp in the vid. That is a very scary experience. I had it happen to me twice in the same weekend last year. Needless to say, I only got one ab that trip. Very disappointing =(

  • WoW, very interesting info, had no clue how much abalone cost so much to get, risking lives for etc...

My friend and I were blessed just walking along beach rocky beach where lots of abalone shells washed up along shore, my friend get them and gave to her family for christmas gifts ;D

  • Share abalone, don't poach. $1,650. fine first over limit plus they take your suit and gear and can go to jail. Not worth to be greedy.

  • mince it and cream it with onions im telling you!

  • Very informative; well done video

  • massive abalone!! good vid mate!

  • It takes skill (Ab don't have neon signs), coordination (under water) and endurance. The black market is thriving though... Over the years I have consistently seen entire extended families walking the paths in wet suits that have never been wet above the knees -w/ full limits. The guy in the back of the line though has blue lips and is soaked... go figure.

  • Mama Mia that IS some wicked diving!! These divers certainly have learned this specific trade----AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • All you People hating PETA people go F yourselves. The rescue operations in use here are not solely to rescue abalone pouchers, they rescue anyone at sea who needs help; thats what they are for. Dont try to govern peoples actions from atop your ivory towers. If your so damn smart people will see it(but your not) If people wanna "Noodle" or dive for abalone or hunt in the woods dont tell em thats what a grocery store is for you elitest jerk offs. And let asians eat whatever they want to.rantdone

  • $250 each in chinatown?

  • man we've got it good in new zealand, easy to get paua (abalone). our limit is 10 pp per day. the size limit is smaller too

  • Yeah but paua grow maximum six or seven inches in length. One California Red Abalone can grow to 12 inches long and weigh 15 pounds (that's about 7 kgs to you). If you ever find a paua that big, contact Guiness Records immediately!

  • i like to go diving for double brested pink snapper, off the coast of downtown blv. talk about dangerous

  • lmao

  • yeah , when i was little my grandma and mom bought Abalone from this Abalone fisherman in san Francisco for $85.

  • Abalone is the #1 cause of car bombings in Al Qaeda.

  • I thought Al Qaeda. was jihadist for Abalone, Al Qaeda is not a place, Q: how long is a Beirut car?. A: 25m 10 for the car,15 for the fuse!

  • I dont think they are fighting in Beirut anymore that is Palestine.

  • its like diving for fried chicken

  • 9 out of 10 the poachers are Chinese,

seen many bastards got busted; if i see you on my shores with larger than your keep you better hope i call the sheriff

  • Where did that statistic come from? I did not see a single Asian or Chinese diver in this video. There is also no published literature demonstrating that what you have stated is true. Please don't state unsubstantiated comments.

  • ahh, i know what you mean,

those bastards always pull my crab traps,

i will slam the hull of my boat over their little rental next time i see them pulling my trap up..

they have like 30 family members so they think they gota lot the whole place

  • No, I'm saying that your numbers and gross generalizations about 9 of 10 divers being Asian are completely false and unfounded.

  • i am a diver from the north coast of California

  • So have you conducted a comparative study or survey with a clearly defined control group. Do you go diving every single day? Where is the published literature? You are simply stating your observations from isolated incidents. Your personal opinion is best taken cumo grano salis. Thanks.

  • yeah, those are just my observations.

  • All the poachers I've seen are vietnamese. I usually go to Salt Point Park and the coves around there.

  • damn poachers ruining it for us divers

  • What the fuck is this?

    Diving? Diving for money?

Why would anyone watch this with their free time?

  • Man, eating abalone is better than viraga..keeps a boner for a long time. She'll never be the same after that, for sure!

  • try divin in blue hole in Egypt its dangerous but great experiment

  • I would like to place an explosive inside an Abalone, and fill it with iron pellets. That would make it a claymore?

  • Call out SWAT he's got a sack of 20 abalone and give him the death penalty.

  • most or all commercial American Abalone is farm raised.. Recreational divers are not allowed to sell their catch. That would be Black Marketing.

  • well said you twats

  • Comment removed

  • thats was funny but it's danger...........

  • fuck off with this shit mother fucker

  • die bitch

  • WAIT... How can it be "black market" if it's 1. designated area only 2. limited per day and per season 3. size restricted 4. no commercial fishing 5. no scuba equipment. Seems to a few of us who know the difference between the two, outside the restrictions it is actually "poaching" and not "black market fishing."

  • were you not able to understand the video???

It's quite simple; fish more than your allowed and sell it illegally = black mkt.

  • Yes, it is simple and I not only understand sport and commercial fishing (done it) but "black market" fish and fishing mean the limit is ZERO under any circumstances. Beyond limit or out of season is "poaching."

  • 3? wtf

  • reminds me of conch

  • Because you voted for obama

  • I live and surf way past Sonoma and I would never spend time under the water, I have seen the sharks.

  • a bologna? don't they sell that in the store?

  • its no easy" to TAKE" the daily meal."LOVE EVERYONE"

  • Do the divers think they are special? As dangerous as it sounds, it appears they are more akin to special ed.

It seems the police, court system, and local rescuers might have more pressing concerns than some idiot who wants to risk his life for nasty chewy sea life.

People ARE stupid. Decent DOC, though, so no hating on the vid production crew!

  • i assume your poor and cannot afford this type of "nasty chewy sea life".

i assume your going to say you'd rather save your money cause your so much smarter then this "idiots" that do it as a hobby.

    your a bloody fool.

  • Wow, you cannot spell. Learn English if you want to be taken seriously.

  • YOU FOOO))0000LL

  • Search: New World Order!

  • that was one chubby diver. lol. reminds of myself ha ha

  • Many people around the world starve and some other "unconscious" people spend their time, energy and money in that way ... what one could say about man's stupidity?

  • tea bag... lol

  • I KNOW! That was FUNNY!

  • WOW we got you "abalonies" here in New Zealand too, but they are called "paua" which is a maori word pronounced "pa wa". Same sorta laws except out quota is a fair bit higher

  • true i was just thinking abalonie must be paua haha

  • abalone, yummy!

  • Hunting for endangered animals is a GREAT hobby.

  • Abalone poaching has become a warzone in South Africa. Now its illegal for private and commercial guys to take out any. If they catch you with even one you get locked up in jail. Its highly protected now.

  • What are Abalone use for? is it just for eating? and or is it some special medicine?... let me know thanks!

  • Abalone is just type of see food like oyster but it taste better cos very chewy..mostly eaten by chinese around the world.. Japanese or Korean, and it is expensive, one pieces can cause up to 35 US Dollars or more for better grade.. it simply symbolize as food for those who are rich for most Chinese...

  • did you really just say a type of sea food? fuck you. idiot. one piece can cause? hoping you dont speak english.

  • "mostly eaten by chinese around the world.. Japanese or Korean"

You know China, Japan, and Korea are 3 different countries right?

  • What makes you think that i dont know then? Im chinese myself and i was born in Malaysia, cultures among these 3 country is very similiar, from food, way of living, ceremony, language and writing. Chinese around the world practise the same culture, thats why we have chinese new year celebrated all over the world. We speak the same language and most of us can speak up to 3 chinese dialects, especially in Malaysia.

  • @scorpion103181 Mostly eaten by Asians who think this shit and lots of other weird shit will give them a large cock or make their women more wet.

    They eat anything.

  • @mrceebees14 You're an idiot.

  • @scorpion103181 very true

  • @mrceebees14

we eat it because its a traditional chinese dish you fuck.

    and yes, i'm chinese.

  • @scorpion103181

i dont understand what you mean by your comment?!

islanders and new zealand go hard and there is a huge number of them not to mention fishing families all around the world....

  • @MsWhatsurProblem You mean my comment about China, Japan, and Korea? It was in reply to someone else, he said "mostly eaten by chinese around the world.. Japanese or Korean" as if they were all the same country. Other than that I don't remember, it was 2 years ago.

  • Use locals use it for food only, but it gets dried and shipped to the Japs. They eat it, or powdered it for a sex enhansed drug. Out of the shell you normally need 4 to make a kilogram, but it does get to 2kg each meat only.

  • Eat Shit asshole!

  • 1. You're reading my comment

    2. Now you're saying/thinking thats a stupid fact.

    4. You didnt notice that i skipped 3.

    5. You're checking it now.

    6. You're smiling.

    7. You're still reading my comment.

    8. You know all you have read is true.

    10. You didnt notice that i skipped 9.

    11. You're checking it now.

    12. You didnt notice there are only 10 facts

  • It is a great hobby until Mr. Great White says hi.

  • save to eat?

  • Ever hear of an ecosystem? Ever hear of the food chain? For God's sake read a book, moron. Laws like that aren't passed for the entertainment of law enforcement!

  • yea good call lol

  • if a snail wasnt illigal to caftch no one would catch it, you read a fucking book moron.

  • for that matter why make it illegal to kill some stupid fucking retarded person?

  • snail person arnt the same how can you compare a handicap person to a snail what the fucks wrougn with you, idiot.

  • w00t! 7 peoples losted their lives. Killer snails ftw

  • best comment EVER!

  • Very yummy!

  • I'm routing for the abalone

  • the most random video i have ever watched lol

  • yeha.. me too and how the hell did i find that video again???

  • 2:31

  • but wait, they have farms for them lol

  • I'm glad the see the sea fighting back. Not happy about all the tax money that goes into rescuing those dumb fucks though. It should be at their own risk and if they die, then so be it.

  • Why?

  • This is very ignorant, no one deserves to die over something that small.

  • it's very stupid that literate, civilized human beings ignore warning signs and risk life and limb to catch dinner. this isn't fuckin cast away. there's grocery stores for a reason. even the guy in the video said there's better ways to get food.

do you have any idea how much rescue operations cost? where does that money come from? the people fishing certainly don't pay for it.

The fact that people rated my comment down is proof enough I'm on a far higher level intellectually than most utubers.

  • At least we know where our food comes from . Something you can't say for yourself smartass.

  • Nothing that small deserves to die over someone that ignorant.

    : )

  • Is abalone poaching a problem only in the U.S. or is it also a prob in other parts of the world?

Have they been so exhausted in the U.S. that no one can make a profit diving for them?

    Just curious.

  • mrenb - yeah we got em here in new zealand, the maoris love em. we call em paua tho.

  • it's so fucking expensive in europe

  • check out my new tracks "get ghost" and "raindrops" ... peep it

    peaceeeeeee

  • Lol. Chinatown is a Blackmarket?

  • I carry a gauge (by law) but never use it. Splay your hand out on the ab--if I don't see ab sticking out both sides I don't touch it. That bit about pulling the ab off the kayak is comical. I can assure you they DON'T come off the rocks that easy. I've seen ab irons bent 90 degrees by abs that stuck fast. Word. Also it's not about the meat. It's about the fun and comraderie w/ friends. A weekend campout at Van Damme is a lot more enjoyable than picking up a pack of steaks at the grocery store.

  • One other thing. We report poachers on the spot. I'm happy to see them go to jail.

  • why don't they just close off that part of the beach.

  • fictionalize, many miles of the coastline is only accessible from personal property (save for access from the water, obviously), so many divers are trespassing as they get TO the water to ab dive. These divers know that, and they choose to do it anyway. You have to figure that anyone that reckless won't care if they are trespassing, as well.

  • can someone tell me what exactly an abolone is?

  • Go to New Zealand.

These are called Paua in NZ.

We used to get 100's of these a day .

Mince them up and make a fritter out out them!

  • oh my gad what we doing????????????

  • GREAT VID

  • "There's lots of easier ways of getting a couple of pounds of meat" o.O

  • at 2:39 LOOOOL^^

  • Lifes a beach lol

  • 0:14 Yuck! Who'd wanna eat something like that?!

  • appparently lots of ppl

  • I do.

  • dqweqw

  • fucking gross

  • Comment removed

  • They have farms. There should be no black market.

  • The farms can't keep up with demand. thus creates the black market.

  • Favorited.

  • aprende a escribir burro ignorante

  • Gracias nestor por tu apreciación, eso es lo malo de copiar y pegar!! jajaja.
