Hmm amazing speed, techinique, phrasing etc...but he just doesn't play anything that really sings to my soul (I'm agnostic but you know what i mean). I guess that's why he isn't recognized as one of the greats.

Your brain must have to be wired in a certain way to enjoy his work. He needs more of that "tell a story with your music" factor for me to enjoy it.

@Innercynic He actually plays great jazz, check out "Guthrie Govan playing to Larry Carlton style track". Speed is a bigger part of jazz than blues, and it really lets him play without feeling restrained. Though I totally agree with you that he doesn't sing to my soul, atleast while playing blues.

I totally agree with uptoherewith, whilst Guthrie's technique is superb, i get tired of listening to guys like him very quickly. I much prefer listening to guys like Derek Trucks, Peter Green, Kossoff, Bonamassa etc. who have more space and what i consider soulful playing (im not saying guthrie or other shredders dont have soul).
