  • His fingers legit look like little spiders running around!!! So nasty!

  • Definitely stopped getting haircuts to save up for that guitar!

  • at 2:24 , strings are reaped open

  • the amazing thing is he's actually left handed. and deaf. unbeleivable.

  • 1:49 holy mother of all squeals

  • I hope that guitar is 18.

  • @JSpears90 Bahahahaha I like you

  • This sounds so great i just took a crap in my pants because you can't stop this video. You must listen it to the end no matter what!!!

  • In the next film of JESUS CHRIST they will call Guthrie Govan :)

  • ive commented on his Pinky for years, I never seen another use his Pinky as a weapon on the guitar. watch it and it strikes without warning. How Why What da fck

  • I hope that guitar was 18

  • I'm going to England to be his student!!!!

  • Talk about being at one with the guitar - when he bends a string his face stretches in all sorts of funky directions at the same time!

  • He's a beast.

  • Guthrie really got into this one, it's brilliant! ^_^

  • 0:44 hahaha with his pinky he can crush souls!!

  • 44 people just jizzed in their brand new expensive pants

  • wow! damn, that was wonderful!

  • well... betcha can't play this!

  • Stews Erik. 79

  • guthrie should jam with marty friedman now that would be epic !!!!

  • @DevilRaper

agree bro! but with Marty of 90's imho

  • what a tone!! wow!

  • I agree with some of the other comments here... maybe he's not the first guitar-player I listen to when I want to really enjoy music. But that doesn't mean I don't listen to the Awesomess that is Guthrie Govan!! =P Simply put... he's too good not to listen to...

  • he didnt rape the strings he Raped Joe and Joe has the means to put something like this out and why the greats dont I have no idea just grateful GG did it. A lot of my faves are GG just killing it

  • great faces!!! no its a joke...

  • Hmm amazing speed, techinique, phrasing etc...but he just doesn't play anything that really sings to my soul (I'm agnostic but you know what i mean). I guess that's why he isn't recognized as one of the greats.

Your brain must have to be wired in a certain way to enjoy his work. He needs more of that "tell a story with your music" factor for me to enjoy it.

  • @Innercynic Absolutely agree!! That's why i like Satch better...

  • @Innercynic He actually plays great jazz, check out "Guthrie Govan playing to Larry Carlton style track". Speed is a bigger part of jazz than blues, and it really lets him play without feeling restrained. Though I totally agree with you that he doesn't sing to my soul, atleast while playing blues.

  • @Innercynic It's difficult to tell a story with such a simple background, and doing an improvisation for a lesson which is really not your style. Watching this series of videos by Guthrie is not the best thing you can watch from him.

  • Comment removed

  • Scream out loud...........

  • i feel sorry for those strings he raped T.T

  • @HandreyAlex they like it rough

  • @HandreyAlex HAHAHAHAHAHA great comment!

  • @HandreyAlex I feel bad for the keyboard that i just jizzed all over.

  • Come on man... this is not funny anymore!

  • Guthrie is one of the few guitarists that makes me laugh... he's just so good im filled with joy :)

  • no shit he aint Joe or Satch, hes fricken GOVAN >G way better so bring it

  • V. GOOD..but no Joe...

  • ehhh.........its ok.....i dont agree with his worshipers on here but hey.everyone has their ass kissers

  • Every generation has it's guitar innovators:

Wes Mo - Hendrix - Van Halen - and today it is without a doubt.....Guthrie

It's good to be living in these times

  • I think this is like Zakk Wylde

  • @uur444 then I feel sorry for you my friend because you don't have ears, nor eyes. Guthrie Govan was as good as Zakk Wylde the FIRST DAY he played guitar.

  • @dzaijn well, what sounds good and what doesn't is subjective, now, more technical, less repetitive, more versatile, and has more knowledge about music in general (or at least shares more knowledge) yeah. you're right. but i wouldn't say any guitarist is "better" than other, since it's art you know...

  • Guthrie is GREAT! So is Joe. Joe is the most melodic player i've heard. I mean, his compositions, his phrasing! But Guthrie is Guthrie, and he can do anything. I like Guthrie very much but Satch stays my favorite.

  • great techinque but i dont find this expressive

  • @MrCold768 Which translates to "I can't play this good so I'll say something negative"

  • @BrianKeeley no it translates to "i have my own opinion so f..k off"

  • @MrCold768 Hey whoa man, stop being so cold! (Looks at user name) oh....

  • WFT youtube american idol Ad? you really think this is the right kind of crowd?

  • The backing track is available but what about Guthries skills!? haha ;)

  • catweazle with guitar...>;o)

  • this is really really good...but can he do this on a big stage? why didn't his parents give him a first name instead of a last name used like a first name? Just kidding...this guy smokes!

  • @MarshallAmpMan i smoke and i smoke and i smoke and i still cant play like that

  • This is one player that is so good that you really aren't exaggerating when you say, "He's got more talent in his little finger than ...." Check out the bend @:40 and the blistering runs @:56!!!

  • Killer playing, killer player, and... while I love Satriani, it sounds much more like a Buddy Guy groove. Does it matter? No. All that matters is that THIS CAT CAN PLAY!!! Good Grief, I've been humbled, once again. Oh well, there's hardly anything more inspiring to me than getting my butt --- kicked! Guthrie's on the cover of the July 2011 Guitar Player, which should up his profile. Clapton needs to invite Satch and Guthrie (and Philip Sayce), to his next Crossroads gig.

  • It sounds more like SRV, only with slightly hotter tone.

  • holy fuck anyone knows which wah he uses?

  • @shadowofthenighthawk if he is attempting a satch sound and my ears dont decieve its a Vox Big Bad Wah, however his usual wah is a Guyatone Wah Rocker 3 =]

  • @F4TB0Y69 nice thank for the information dude ^

  • @shadowofthenighthawk np man =]

  • Is that a Charvel?

  • @davemustaine999 nope, its a Suhr

  • @davemustaine999 that would be a Suhr. About 7 times the cost of a Charvel.

  • leave the Satch blues to Satch.. the wah became really annoying after a while...

  • 0:43 WTF is he doing? i never saw a pro doing bend with the pinky.

  • I dont think this sounds even close to satriani, but he does capture something. But wheres the legato?!?! Thats a big part of satches sound imo.

  • @maneatingtoilets He's not playing Satch style, he's playing Guthrie style to a Satch style backing track :P

  • well, I don't feel so bad about my wah-wah face anymore haha

  • and we will come to erase our sins but this time with a electric guitar cause he rocks!! holy shit!!! Alellujah

  • Where was this video recorded??

  • romeo is a damn good composer so that makes up for his fast playing i guess

  • what kind of guitar does he use?

  • Now I need a wah pedal!

  • hes my god and when those people ask me if I'm saved, yes I've accepted GG as my lord and saviour

  • ive always thought the main reason he has the edge is that damn little finger, its possessed, well all of them are

  • i think he just owned Joe Satriani

  • @TheRockLegand sure he did, Satch's a great player, but he can't really improvise :)

  • @oscarsstuff

no guthrie improvises like god?no thats why is jezus, thats why hes been send back because they found his fast mindles lick too unbearable for heaven.satch isn't the best but still has some great albums and songs thats stand by due to the effectivnes and melody that speaks logic.

  • @oscarsstuff Yes he can. And he improvises great. Search for Joe Satriani - Made of tears. The long live version. Then you will see how good he is in improvising.

  • @TheRockLegand

yes sadly he owns a wah, damn you kirk hammet.

  • THIS IS PURE SEX! Thumbs Up if u agree!

  • @Pussynator123 I agree!

  • if i could play like this, i would jizz all over my steak!

  • WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO EMULATE ANYONE?

  • @CREWDOG289 because being able to emulate other players makes you a better player. for exmaple, i can almost emulate kirk hammett, but i dont play like him. i just use his ideas every now and then. tools for the toolbox my friend.

  • @MrMeist so what, i dont give a fuck who you imulate.

  • I love that guy, but , Joe satriani style my ass... not that close

  • how can those strings take that abuse???...that's a snappo waitin to happen...

  • WTF

  • Guthrie is the real guitar player....tremendous technique, deep musical knowledge, unique phrasing, soul and expresivity...TX, MR: GOVAN!!!

  • hammer on and pull of ?

  • no disrespect to Guthrie but this sounds nothing like Satriani

  • @hyperboogie of course because he's not satriani. and Satriani sounds nothing like Guthrie. They're both great.

  • @hyperboogie Well, video heading only says says he's playing to a Satriani style backing track, so maybe that would explain it.

  • @hyperboogie Guthrie did not know that these were "blank Blank" style tracks when he recorded them. He simply went in there and they said "jam to this".

  • new album??

  • guthrie's incredible...but somehow for a slow blues like this...I'd rather hear stevie ray vaughn...or better yet, hendrix...guess I'm old school....that's my only criticism of govan.. his slow vibrato isn't quite what either of those guys had...but for spicy fast ones,...hard to beat gg...(not that my vibrato is even is the same league..)

  • This guy reminds a lot of Satrani....he's fast, tasty and plays witha ton of feeling. Some guys are quick and run some mean scales but they have no heart...this guy has it all.

  • i saw this man at a blues fest in italy, a very under rated guitarist, him and his band put on a great show, also got to see joe satriani that same night,it dont get any better than that.

  • @GiannisSta8hs oh, i get it now... you are one of the jealous haters.

  • 2nd best guitarist ive ever heard after Albert Lee

  • @GiannisSta8hs I can't say anything but the fact that you are ignorant.

  • 8=====D~^*~^~* no homo

  • AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING !!!

  • The best guitarist of all time, and yet sooooo modest... Gotta love him!

  • stupid

  • If Jesus had played the guitar, his name would have been Guthrie Govan.

  • @AtticaDrummer I believe Guthrie would have crucified jesus with his guitar

  • @AtticaDrummer You say that like it isn't so.

  • @organs

  • @AtticaDrummer if Jesus had played the guitar... Guthrie Govan had been his teacher :P

  • @AtticaDrummer they even look alike!!

    ahahahahah

  • @AtticaDrummer he looks like Jesus too :P

  • the spider hand..

  • Man i discovered you 2 days ago and i am watching your videos all day!I hear and see a perfect Balanced playing between melody, technics, speed and soul phrasing! you are my hero :)

  • I totally agree with uptoherewith, whilst Guthrie's technique is superb, i get tired of listening to guys like him very quickly. I much prefer listening to guys like Derek Trucks, Peter Green, Kossoff, Bonamassa etc. who have more space and what i consider soulful playing (im not saying guthrie or other shredders dont have soul). Again, just my 2 cents.

  • @vtwin1 that's funny because guthrie himself was wary of shredders because of their playing style. I don't think he's a shredder, he plays with more of a legato style but this video is him shredding.

  • so much better than than satriani

  • simplemente genial !!

  • I LOVE shredding! Yet , when it comes down to judging who's good and great the vote always goes to who can take ONE note and make your spine tingle.

I truly appreciate all of these technical prodigies but I always find myself empty on them. OMG I wish I could play like them!! Nonetheless the quest for guitar hero always leads to feeling as has been proven by the lesser technical heroes like Clapton, Gilmour, Vaughn, Trucks, Haynes, etc

  • The only thing Guthry and Satch have in common here is the guitar and nothing else. tone

  • Satch is great but his technique is always overrated and this is no comparison because Guthrie blows Satch away in every department. Even though you prefer Satch, which is fine, this is just a fact.

  • This is more like a James Brown style backing track.

  • 35 mother fuckers prefer 50 cent

  • why would they wnat 50 cents when i can have a hundread bucks o-O??

  • @LEOJ024 - Because I have every album he's ever made. Every G3 he's ever been on. Because I've seen him solo twice, and on the G3 tour once. Because I've listened to his music for the last 15 years. Because I can play a small percentage of his material. Because melodically, he is my favourite guitar player by a long shot.

I'm not dissing Satch in any way, how could I? But facts are facts, he knows what he's good at, and what he likes doing, and never strays from that path.

  • @Hardysamnin i gotta agree Hardysamnin - I think this makes my 14th year playing - Satch was in every way that counts, my "teacher" too but when Guthrie showed up there's just no denying it. Guthrie has the musicality to rival Satch and the technique to stand toe to toe with ANYONE....Vai, Batio, Yngwie, Lane, Becker...anyone.

  • @LEOJ024 - Alternate picking, hybrid picking, sheer size of trick bag, phrasing, the list of things heavily stacked in Guthries favour is staggering.

And no, it's not a "Fact" it's an opinion, and you're entitled to it.

  • I agree, this is SO unlike Satch, it's ridiculous! (The backing track, I mean) Talk about using the Lord's name in vain! Luckilly, Guthrie is worth listening to - takes any pain away!

  • "Joe Satriani 'Blues' STYLE TRACK", not Satch's style. blind?

  • It doesn't say he's trying to play like Satch, he's just playing along any way he wants over a Satch-styled backing track

  • i don't see satriani style

  • @antohat satriani -STYLED BACKING TRACK¬¬

  • hate to say it but this is nothing like satch. this is more of a vai or andy timmons style track. the only thing similar thing to satch that hes doing is using a wah. i understand the title says satch style "track" but if your gonna play on a satch "style" track then atleast phrase like him. dont get me wrong GG is insane and technically more advanced than almost every guitarist in the world but he lacks that satch/vai feel, atleast in this video he does

  • I love Satch's playing and admire his technique, and I'm flat-out terrified of G.G. I do have to ask: In what sense does this backing track have ANYTHING to do with Satch's style? It sounds more like Chicago blues to me, more like the kind of groove Gary Moore would be playing than anything Satch has ever done. That being said, this must be as well: Just DAMN.

  • @FreedomZealot

Guthries playing in this video is very Satriani inspired.

  • @runescapeownyawe no its not......are you kidding me this videos playing is nothing close to satch. this video is more of a big band blues style track in which joe has no affiliation with

  • @young0wylde0child

I can definitely hear the Satch style of playing in here.

  • @runescapeownyawe ther is nothing satch about this besides the wah pedal. satch is more of an extended pentatonic guy and even in blue songs he would switch harmonic minor by the 2nd turn around and im telling if you listen to satch as much as any good satch fan does you would be able to see that this sounds nothing like him....

  • @FreedomZealot thank you! somebody realizes it

  • Wow...it's not every day you find a guitarist with the level of skill who still has that much soul...

  • Look Guthrie is a great guitarist, so is Joe. but people forget its composition that makes someone a good musician. Look you might play guitar like a god, but if you can't make yourself a good composition than you are still nowhere.

Oh jeah and for people who think satch his technic is way worse then the guitarist of nowadays. Go check Joe Satriani crushing day live ;) anyway both two great guitarists

  • 33 people who watched this are gay

  • @1BigMeanMexican Tim Halcomb Sucks ...check it out on YouTube...the troll.

  • @1BigMeanMexican Your rotting mothers corpse is being fucked by Satan.

  • @1BigMeanMexican Im not really sure if your being nice, or a sarcastic dickhead, but either way, your right! =P i can see the merit in loving either guitarist more. both are gods =D who are we to really judge? especially me cause i suck =] haha oh well. take it easy man

  • Satch's going down...

  • GG is a god, FACT PEOPLE.

  • yo guys, just read some comments regarding joe vs guthrie.guys pls i have been playing for the past 40 yrs and can tell u satch is superior in everyway, much more so the goavn, that said govan is amazing and clean as any,but to compare him with saint joe is just wrong.hey we all have our own opinions, but i still love guthrie.GREAT PLAYER.sorry fellas.

  • @cfv22 you think he is superior technique wise?

  • @cfv22 Dude, believe me, im a massive, massive Satch fan, he's one of my idols, but this guy's obviously better. no disrespect to Satch, cause he's obviously a god and few can even come close to even getting near close enough to touching him, but Guthrie is a fucking monster. anyways, peace man, and keep rockin the 6 string =]

  • here we go AGAIN forgetting that MUSIC IS ABOUT MUSIC why the heck are we comparing?? Guthrie is someone..Vai is someone else..satch is someone ELSE..music is expression..Vai has an amazing imagination that gurthie sites as one of his influence...satch was always the rockie boy that knows how to take you to space with his ideas..and guthrie..was always the fast pace blues/fusion monster that we all admire they are all great in their own right..remember that same applies to all musicians

  • IT is true, Guthrie, but this doesnt sound like Joe Satriani, its still cool:)

  • Thank Guthrie, this wonderful music is in my video Sensações II - Sensations II. A big hug from poet

    Antonio Fernando

  • He has his talent from his (amazing) haircut !

  • He has his talent from his (amazing) haircut !

  • This will have old Satch creaming his knickers.

  • what an ugly nerd.

    oh and, joe > all.

  • @danyjr - I'm sure if all you can say about him is he's an ugly nerd, he would take that as huge complement ;)

And you're right, that is about the only detrimental thing to say about him.

  • Fuck the note at 1:52 blew him of his seat and look at the strength of his middle finger at 0:44 ..wowza !

  • just tone and technique....excellent tone and techinque....ala Gutherie Govan

    which we appreciate immensely

  • no legatos.....no Satriani.

nice work but no real Satriani....just one....and technique

  • even though this backing track wasn't supposed to be a shredding one, or for that matter loud and crazy at all. It was very nice. Messy, as soloing is inherent in, but still nice.

  • I think I've just heard god. Does anyone know what guitar he is using?

  • @Hertsman50 It's a Suhr. They're expensive, but great guitars.

  • Eh Joe, you just found competition. I love that people like this still exist. They know how to play a guitar!!!!

  • @Rhomedon no shit...

  • Govan is the Messi of Guitar

  • In this day and age of compensation culture,I can see those strings putting a claim in .

  • Good God, Guthrie Govan!

  • This reminds me of something that requires three women in black dresses sharing one mic.

  • car

  • guthrie-guitar wizzard O_o

  • hahah this better than satchs music?? if you think that then you need to get that lizard shit syringed out from your ears people!

  • @skopex18 no this isnt, but Erotic cakes is nuts.
