@Homemadebeats well they are in the southern hemisphere so south is the prominent direction. LIke in the North, North faces up because that is where the strongest magnetic field is. However, once you cross the equator the stong magentic field is south. So South is up on a map.  He is therefore looking at a southern map with a northern mindset.

Their big mistake was once they realized they were lost and couldnt figure out the way back, they kept going. Youre suppose to stay put. The more you travel at that point the more energy you lose, you dehydrate faster, your feet wear out, and you just get more lost. Rig up a shelter, get a fire going if you can, and since theres jaguars out there, make a spear so you have at least a tiny shot of surviving an attack, and wait it out. And if you get a fire going, burn live plants for mega smoke.
