I'm thinking about clicker training my budgie but I have two dogs tht r clicker trained and whenever I click it they run up to me. Any tips? Oh btw so cute!!!
You condition the bird to the clicker by just randomly clicking it and immediately giving the bird a treat over and over until they realize that click=treat. My birds will now make the clicker noise at me as a sign they want to play (train).
aww hes so cute. Nice training, do you have any tips for me, I am trying trying to train my 8yo female budgie, she is very wild bites and is stubborn, she can't fly (never learnt how and now has arthritis.) I taught her step up and can almost touch her on the head but she freaks out around people, but she is mostly calm with me, oh and I got her to eat out of my hand. How do I gain her trust even more? She warmed up to me a bit more than anyone else but she still is as tame as i would like?
you can get one at Petsmart :) just go to the dog section, and it will have it there,
im pretty sure there are Petsmart branches in The U.S as well :) but i am telling you this from Canada so i don't know if its the same :) good luck anyways!
OMG I cant believe Duke died he was a precious little white mouse. He was so cute. I dont think he'll have fun in heaven. He was better down in limbo.
hey how do i get my bird to do that kind of thing he wont go any where near the stuff i buy for him only food and his cage but i cant forget me hes lernt the tube one where he runs threw a tolet paper rool but how do i get him to play fetch and stuf
can I ask some advice please ... what are u feeding him when u do the clicker ?? the seeds I have are way to small the spray millet falls apart in my hand ... I need sonething solid which I can hold and small enough for him 2 eat .. the petshop didn't have any ideas to suggest.
*nods* I mean drinkmilk101 could try using some more treats. what are they offering, yucky food or yummy food. And healthy is good too. Try nuts or carrot, or apple, banana. See what your bird likes. Toast even! Plus some birds will do tricks just for a pat, so find your birds motivation. mine personally prefers food to pats even though he does love pats! Keep training sessions no longer then 10 mins and always end on a positive note too.
sweet! do you have any tips to make a budgie eat a treat b/c mine doesnt take anything and after i totally train than i leave some lettuce and he eats it several hours later...do you know if theres any way i can make him eat a treat right when he does a trick? Thanks!
Birds have pretty short metabolisms, they sleep for 12 hours too, i don't recommend starving it. Try eating things in front of it and letting it try the healthy food (not avo) and when you find something it likes it should eat it when you place it in front of it. keep trying, but sometimes some birds just will be too shy.
@kiliparrot thanks b/c i was feeding my bird its regular seeds and i wouldnt take it after a trick it would go into his mouth but the it fell to the ground! so thanks!!!
Actually, lettuces other than iceberg are very good nutritionally, and mine readily accept it as a training treat, though nothing beats that darn millet.
Can u make vid on how to teach him todo that

is the thing in your hand a treat dispenser or do you just click it then give duke a treat?
TauAunva 6 months ago
@TauAunva It is a clicker. They are often used for training with birds and dogs. If you click, it means they have done something right.

How can you tell your bird that a clciker ment that they did a good thing? And my budgie is not going to my stick thing.

ignore my question I have just seen u say what u were using
mzstormchaseruk 2 years ago
you can give them nutriberries or sunflower seeds
MsHorselover8 1 year ago
@MsHorselover8 thanks I'll try that :)

How you teach a parakeet to do tricks? All my parakeets wanna do is go back in the cage with his friend.
Mike2k345 2 years ago
@Mike2k345
Cuz if u hve more than 1 parakeet, they will get more friendly with the other parakeets, but if u only hve 1, they will be more joined to u

What kind of treat are you using? It looks small, almost like an ear of corn.

drinkmilk101 2 years ago
Don't let it eat anything for 3-6 hours before training and use millet spray as a treat. Lettuce has no nutritional value to a bird.

ok thanks!
