Thats all this shit is is playing the crash cymbal fuck that dumb ass shit "wash riding"! Thats some dumb ass white boy shit taking an old idea trying to put a new spin on it.
Stop being idiots everyone. It's a video showing the playability of different cymbals, not a fucking drum lesson. The fact you think they thought this is a new technique speaks for itself.
@secondshen Dude I just had to leave my comment here as a reply to yours because I agree with you 100%.I have never heard that term before and I have been drumming for around 40 yrs now.Personally I do not like that wash riding crap at all.I'm 52 yrs old and to me that is something these younger players are doing in the alternative sound. To me it is too much noise and not percussionistic playing.(Did I just make up a new term)?LOL.I prefer rhythmic playing on hi hats and the ride cymbal as norm
So they took quarter notes, played them on cymbals and thought "wow this is an entirely new technique!'.... no. It's almost like saying a drum set with a snare drum is unique. And how did they make 50 videos "explaining" how to play quarter notes..? This is why I play Zildjian. lol
Is this a word Sabian created for marketing purposes? Like halitosis?
I used to wash ride on my ride but I switched to a 5 piece. Now I just get a heavier sounding crash... I don't like the crash to wiggle like it's being raped.
This can be done on any cymbal. ANY cymbal. And good for us, they will all sound different. It's called "riding" (no wash needed). There are "ping cymbals" for this purpose, the Ride Cymbals, but you can use the same technique on ANY cymbal. And, it's not new, it's been done since the appearance of the drumset kit, on the verge of the blues and jazz, when there was even less distinction between Crash and Ride cymbals.
I got a 17" Zildjian K Series custom Dark Crash which sounds beautiful with wash technique, and I have 13" Zildjian K Series custom Dark hats that are fucking magnificent when playing open hats on any beat.. I strongly suggest to anyone to try these out.. they're worth the money!@
@SirPipesalot325 Yes and no. You see... the video is all about "Wash Riding" so he defines wash riding which is " Hitting quarter notes or 8th notes on a cymbal " and what cymbals sound better with wash riding. So yes you can use your cymbals for hitting but instead of banging on drums, it's always better to know the name of the rhythms you are playing.
I wish you would have gone into detail as to why each cymbal is better for "washing" because that would help drummers who have issues with cymbals cracking on the edges.
You are correct. And this is just called "Marketing". They are just trying to turn it into a selling point. They are just trying to look for a way to make crash cymbals just as important as rides are for most drummers...
Sabian is a thumbs down for Crash-Riding imo... BTW, fuck Wash-Riding. It's Crash-Riding to be realistic.
The Zildjian Z3 Thrash Ride, Zildjian Z3 20" Med Crash, Paiste RUDE 19"/20" Thin/Wild Crashes, Paiste 2002 19" Wild Crush Ride are some of the cymbals great for crash-riding.
@yaxowx I understand that ya bitch wank, But should they be? No. That's what a crash is for. And if made right, they should sound shitty when played as a crash. Low dark gongish sounds. Not crisp Crash sounds. So shut your fuck and pull the dick out of your ass.
@AZNxPAWL There is absolutely no reason why a ride cymbal can't sound great either riding on the bow or crashing on the edge. The rides that sound bad crashed are usually the heavier more pingier rides. Saying that if a ride is made right it should sound shit as a crash is pretty much dead wrong. A mark of a great ride is its versatility.
@AZNxPAWL FAIL. What about the Zildjian A Sweet Ride or the HHX Groove Ride?(I'm just naming a few). They are ride cymbals but they have excellent crash qualities.
You must probably be crashing like a Mega Bell Ride to say those stupid shit bro... Fucking hell.
@AZNxPAWL lol, i don't think you understand the concept of 'tone'. ride cymbals have a different sound than crashes, therefore are used whenever the drummer thinks it necessary. You're basically telling me to disregard everything i've seen professionals do and trust some random nigger on youtube, no, the douchey drummer profile pic does not give you any credit
This vid was great for comparing the different sounds you get from these cymbals in the same context. It wouldn't surprise me of most of the trash talking is from noobs themselves. How ironic.
Such a dumb promo. That just goes to show how much sabien believes in the intellectual capabilities of the consumer. "Just tell them anything and they'll buy it!"
what an effin blatenet marketing attempt. Is this where our instrument is headed? Because kids are inundated with new products for them to spend their money on when what they really should do is spend a day at a music store with a great stick selection figuring out which one works best for them and then spend the rest of the money on lessons and how to apply the moeller technique. Don't get me wrong, I love new gear but if you don't know hot to properly hit it, what cymabl you use won't matter
@HxCPantsParty Yeah, that's some amateur bullshit right there. Of course you can compare the different cymbals. Give me an instance where you are going to have the financial resources to always be able to pick the right cymbal for the right part? The trick is to know how to make your cymbal selection based on what work it is you have coming up and what will fit your identity. A very nuanced process
@juddgreg333 - the way I was thinking was that you already had some cymbals and were just trying to pick the best in general. All of them are good cymbals but depending on what sound you want, they can all be considered the best for different parts of a song.
I love Sabian cymbals but "What is wash riding?" wtf? Drummers have been hitting quarter notes on open cymbals for a helluva lot longer than this term has been around... I don't care who made it up, it ain't new people... for crying out loud.
I find it better to do 1/8th notes, but significantly accent the downbeat and barely tap the cymbal on the upbeat. It helps to control the swing of the cymbal and kind of helps to keep the sustain solid. Just personal opinion. And which cymbal sounds the best? My cymbal does. A 20" Meinl Soundcaster Fusion Projection crash. :)
He says that the term is often used to describe the playing? Outside of this Sabian ad and players that had seen it, I've never heard it used. *Skepticism*
