  • That's exactly how I ruined my 2 favourite crash cymbals. But hey, that's Rock 'n Roll...

crashes to crashes, dust to dust!

  • Mind = Blown.

  • what every emotional screaming "hardcore" fuckin pussy shit band plays in every one of their fucking songs

  • Comment removed

  • Goddamnit I need some new cymbals.

  • I play the Drums too

  • Comment removed

  • fuck the name of the video, call it what you want..a lot of these cymbals sound bad ass.

  • FUCK "wash riding".

  • yamaha drumkit ??

  • APX of course

  • I just called it "riding on crash".

  • You need to have the china tilted a little more away from you, otherwise you get that nasty unsustained chink sound.

  • in that part I would have played the cowbell

  • 21

  • Thats all this shit is is playing the crash cymbal fuck that dumb ass shit "wash riding"! Thats some dumb ass white boy shit taking an old idea trying to put a new spin on it.

  • 20" Artisan crash.

  • TRX 23" LTD Crash-Ride gets my vote. It's not going to be on the list, though, as these are all Sabian cymbals. :u

  • A growingly popular style? In that case i'm a pioneer as iv been doing this for years...

  • 20" ride cymbal sounds so good! i got a 20" ping ride, and it doesnt sound as good as that one..thinking to move in for sabian now :p

  • Stop being idiots everyone. It's a video showing the playability of different cymbals, not a fucking drum lesson. The fact you think they thought this is a new technique speaks for itself.

  • It's actually a pretty cool backing track. Has a nice groove :3

  • ...so...pretty much crash ridding

  • buy it buy it buy it and be like terry b

    full of ego

just play the god damm shit

    \

  • Pretty sure Keith moon was using open cymbals to play entire songs. And it didn't sound like absolute shit.

  • Wash riding? To a musical person like me, this is halftime or cut time.

  • @Jerahmeel Might want to check your musical terms, Mr. Musical Person. Riding on a crash cymbal has nothing to do with half or cut time.

  • @Jerahmeel wah.... how is a musical person this uneducated about music.

  • @thewitchovagnesi it was a joke :P but having had both I prefer zildjians, just a matter of opinion

  • never ever hit that china boy cymbal again!.....ever!

  • @fentleyboa1 I was wondering if I was the only one who thought it sounded shitty...

  • "so whats the best cymbal for wash riding?"... erm something by Zildjian?

  • @oODallyOo Zildjians suck dude. lol

  • Been drumming for a long ass time. I've NEVER heard of the term "Wash Riding" lol. People have to make terms for every damn thing now a days.

  • @secondshen 20+ years of playing here too. Never heard the team until now.

  • @secondshen Dude I just had to leave my comment here as a reply to yours because I agree with you 100%.I have never heard that term before and I have been drumming for around 40 yrs now.Personally I do not like that wash riding crap at all.I'm 52 yrs old and to me that is something these younger players are doing in the alternative sound. To me it is too much noise and not percussionistic playing.(Did I just make up a new term)?LOL.I prefer rhythmic playing on hi hats and the ride cymbal as norm

  • I love the X-Treme Chinese!!! The APX sounds epic for wash riding.

  • growingly popular style of drumming? wtf, are you serious???

  • I love the 18 " HHX O-Zone

  • Two words...Steve Gadd.

  • Ive been doing that to my ride since ever since!

  • Hm, actually a drum video i didn't learn ANYTHING from ... :)

  • 20" ride is the best, it has a vintage sound... sounds like Bonham

  • Growingly popular since the invention of the drum set.

  • So they took quarter notes, played them on cymbals and thought "wow this is an entirely new technique!'.... no. It's almost like saying a drum set with a snare drum is unique. And how did they make 50 videos "explaining" how to play quarter notes..? This is why I play Zildjian. lol

  • ordinary way travis barker plays every cymbal :D

  • I'm thinking they fucking made up this term.

  • i use meinl

  • Why is this a video? Why does this have 100,000 views? Does this really need to be explained?

Anyone who learned from this video has a long way to go...

  • thank you for opening my eyes on this growingly popular style of drumming!

  • @Mongraincobhc666 growingly popular? It's like every Nirvana Chorus lol.

  • Is this a word Sabian created for marketing purposes? Like halitosis?

I used to wash ride on my ride but I switched to a 5 piece. Now I just get a heavier sounding crash... I don't like the crash to wiggle like it's being raped.

  • 20" Axxplosion, and a K crash/ride ftw.

  • 20" crash. Something heavy with a slow decay.

  • Chinaboy is way too tight

  • 20 + inches. thinner the better. want the cymbal to wiggle.

  • when there demonstrating their products they shouldnt play that annoying fucking guitar in the background

  • 16 aax o-zone crash

  • I love AAX Xplosions

  • WTF this is just playing a fuck cymbal!

  • What Sabian cymbal is best for wash riding*

  • None of them.

  • 20" artisan crash man

    thats where its at

  • This can be done on any cymbal. ANY cymbal. And good for us, they will all sound different. It's called "riding" (no wash needed). There are "ping cymbals" for this purpose, the Ride Cymbals, but you can use the same technique on ANY cymbal. And, it's not new, it's been done since the appearance of the drumset kit, on the verge of the blues and jazz, when there was even less distinction between Crash and Ride cymbals.

  • Soooo.. They give names to everything, now?

  • I got a 17" Zildjian K Series custom Dark Crash which sounds beautiful with wash technique, and I have 13" Zildjian K Series custom Dark hats that are fucking magnificent when playing open hats on any beat.. I strongly suggest to anyone to try these out.. they're worth the money!@

  • This used to be called swimming. When did it become wash riding? Guess I'm out of the loop or whatever.

  • I dig my 20" A Custom Ping Ride.

  • so, i can use my cymbals for hitting?.... woha!

  • @SirPipesalot325 Yes and no. You see... the video is all about "Wash Riding" so he defines wash riding which is " Hitting quarter notes or 8th notes on a cymbal " and what cymbals sound better with wash riding. So yes you can use your cymbals for hitting but instead of banging on drums, it's always better to know the name of the rhythms you are playing.

  • its called CRASH RIDING, jesus christ -.-

  • I wish you would have gone into detail as to why each cymbal is better for "washing" because that would help drummers who have issues with cymbals cracking on the edges.

  • I didn't even knew this had an official name. I just called it "playing the crash cymbal".

  • @Redspy27 Exactly. Quarters on a ride or crash needs a special name? Give me a break.

  • @Redspy27

You are correct. And this is just called "Marketing". They are just trying to turn it into a selling point. They are just trying to look for a way to make crash cymbals just as important as rides are for most drummers...

  • @Redspy27 Or crash riding...

  • CHINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

  • Wash Riding is lazy drumming

  • @giggabyt78 lol?

  • Is there a dry ride? Well that just sounds dirty...

  • I don't get it.

  • Nothing but a commercial for crappy cymbals.

  • oh my god this is brilliant, fuck hi-hats i'm gonna "wash ride" the shit out of everything i play for the rest of my life!

  • @DisfiguringTheAndy hahaha, like a cowbell or something hahaha... never gonna use hi-hats again!!

  • amazing!

  • WAIT!! Then what the hell are you doing with your left hand and legs??? :O (lol)

  • 20" Zildjian A Custom Ping Ride

  • 18" HHX Evolution O - Zone Crash sounds best

  • 18" HHX Evolution O - Zone Crash

  • This is a new thing o_o since when?!?!?!

  • I like my 24" Paiste Giant Beat, personally. Bigger cymbals for bigger sound.

  • I use a Sabian AAX 19" Explosion crash for wash-riding; love it.

  • I've been "wash riding" since the mid 90s when grunge was happening...not a new technique-

  • Using the washing machine to clean your cymbals

  • Sabian is a thumbs down for Crash-Riding imo... BTW, fuck Wash-Riding. It's Crash-Riding to be realistic.

The Zildjian Z3 Thrash Ride, Zildjian Z3 20" Med Crash, Paiste RUDE 19"/20" Thin/Wild Crashes, Paiste 2002 19" Wild Crush Ride are some of the cymbals great for crash-riding.

  • After a while those cymbals really get fuckin' annoying

  • Last I checked, rides should sound like rides. Like in Jazz. Not Crashes. That's why we have Crash cymbals. And God forbid...Crash rides!

  • @AZNxPAWL rides are used like crashes all the time ya noob

  • @yaxowx I understand that ya bitch wank, But should they be? No. That's what a crash is for. And if made right, they should sound shitty when played as a crash. Low dark gongish sounds. Not crisp Crash sounds. So shut your fuck and pull the dick out of your ass.

  • @AZNxPAWL There is absolutely no reason why a ride cymbal can't sound great either riding on the bow or crashing on the edge. The rides that sound bad crashed are usually the heavier more pingier rides. Saying that if a ride is made right it should sound shit as a crash is pretty much dead wrong. A mark of a great ride is its versatility.

  • @AZNxPAWL FAIL. What about the Zildjian A Sweet Ride or the HHX Groove Ride?(I'm just naming a few). They are ride cymbals but they have excellent crash qualities.

You must probably be crashing like a Mega Bell Ride to say those stupid shit bro... Fucking hell.

  • @AZNxPAWL lol, i don't think you understand the concept of 'tone'. ride cymbals have a different sound than crashes, therefore are used whenever the drummer thinks it necessary. You're basically telling me to disregard everything i've seen professionals do and trust some random nigger on youtube, no, the douchey drummer profile pic does not give you any credit

  • This vid was great for comparing the different sounds you get from these cymbals in the same context. It wouldn't surprise me of most of the trash talking is from noobs themselves. How ironic.

  • ok this sucked.

  • Marketing to noob drummers.

  • Such a dumb promo. That just goes to show how much sabien believes in the intellectual capabilities of the consumer. "Just tell them anything and they'll buy it!"

  • 'So, What cymbals work best for wash riding?'

    Not Sabian

  • Lol. All this hate is just giving them more views.

  • i like the o zone

  • Some great sounding cymbals there.

  • it deppens on what sound you preffer

  • What about wash porking....can you make a video about that please. I'd like to see that.

  • Go Zildjian.

  • @GrantVsMalice Sabian is better though, I have used and own both

  • Sorry Sabian marketing team, I have been 'wash riding' for longer than you have been 'ride washing'

  • what is wash riding? lack of imagination from a company not as good as zildjian or meinl....

  • what an effin blatenet marketing attempt. Is this where our instrument is headed? Because kids are inundated with new products for them to spend their money on when what they really should do is spend a day at a music store with a great stick selection figuring out which one works best for them and then spend the rest of the money on lessons and how to apply the moeller technique. Don't get me wrong, I love new gear but if you don't know hot to properly hit it, what cymabl you use won't matter

  • The only one that sounded good was the 18" APX Crash.

  • I like Zildjian.

  • 18 hhx evolution o zone crash ftw!

  • Artisan crash FTW

  • you can't really compare the different cymbals, they all give it a different feel. It depends what kind of sound you want for a particular part. :\

  • @HxCPantsParty Yeah, that's some amateur bullshit right there. Of course you can compare the different cymbals. Give me an instance where you are going to have the financial resources to always be able to pick the right cymbal for the right part? The trick is to know how to make your cymbal selection based on what work it is you have coming up and what will fit your identity. A very nuanced process

  • @juddgreg333 - the way I was thinking was that you already had some cymbals and were just trying to pick the best in general. All of them are good cymbals but depending on what sound you want, they can all be considered the best for different parts of a song.

  • Isn;t every cymbal good enough to 'wash ride'? Jeez..

  • I love Sabian cymbals but "What is wash riding?" wtf? Drummers have been hitting quarter notes on open cymbals for a helluva lot longer than this term has been around... I don't care who made it up, it ain't new people... for crying out loud.

  • @deathmetalstrength i agree fully !

  • GET A REAL DRUMMER TO DEMO ! ! !

  • 20" Artisin crash

  • 16'' aax awesome !!

  • i figured this shit out all on my own without knowing what "wash riding was"

aka this video was a waste

  • I find it better to do 1/8th notes, but significantly accent the downbeat and barely tap the cymbal on the upbeat. It helps to control the swing of the cymbal and kind of helps to keep the sustain solid. Just personal opinion. And which cymbal sounds the best? My cymbal does. A 20" Meinl Soundcaster Fusion Projection crash. :)

  • @DylanK811 Using this technique also helps me to keep time and gives me more of a feel for 1/16th ghost-notes.

P.S. Zildjian A 21" Sweet Ride is another good one ;).

  • HHX 18˝ :D

  • I LOVE VAULT!!!!!!!!!

  • wash riding! the new playing a quarter note on a cymbal! except just belting it instead of creating a good solid wall of sound.....

  • I pick cowbell!

  • I hope they cover the latest popular trend called 'drum hitting'

  • @apoc29 lought hard on that one! :D

  • @apoc29 hahahaha

  • Hi all! Since there's no word for crashing, we're gonna call it "wash riding."

  • I like the APX Crash

  • Oh yeah... It definetely took this punk and a great selection of cymbals to lead my drumming style to this innovative path....

Not a very single fuck was given.

  • I like the Groove Ride

  • 20' Artisan Crash. Sweet and smooth and sexy sound. this ride remembered John Boham (Led Zeppelin) playing Good times bad times. :)

  • @emercito Funny, the second I heard that cymbal, I was like "fuck, I want that one"... Zeppelin ftw!

  • Groove ride is the best ride in the world.

  • I have the groove ride and I used to use it only as a crash!

  • wash riding is new?

  • I would pick 20' Artisan Crash has a nice sweet smooth sound

  • evolution ride!

  • ì like the artisan ride

  • HHX Evolution 18! It has a unique sound!

  • Sexy new tom heads.

  • lol, a "growing popular style", are they serious?

  • @GrooveThumper i know. Guys have been doing it in big bands in the 40's or earlier

  • So pretty much what every hardcore/metalcore drummer does?

  • 20'' and 21'' Groove Ride. Really beautiful sound. Ride and crash

  • He says that the term is often used to describe the playing? Outside of this Sabian ad and players that had seen it, I've never heard it used. *Skepticism*

  • The O-Zone crashes and 18" APX crash for me.

The worst in this video is the 19" AAX X-Treme Chinese. The decay is too fast and the sound doesn't fit for wash riding.

  • Wow. Worst cymbal review ever. The guy didnt even hit the bell

  • @TheDanSpicer because he is riding the cymbal... i thought that was clearly explained

  • @TheDanSpicer it ISNT a cymbal review...

  • I want the ozone.... badly. Too bad I'm broke D:

  • I love how the hi hat is zildjian! LOL

  • @spursfan112 Sabian Artisan.

  • @dolenslupus Oh! I thought it was an a series :L

  • @spursfan112 Its not, it's the Vault series of Sabian.

  • @LousyMusician15 I know, I thought it was an a series :/

  • @spursfan112 Oh, I see what you mean. The Vault series does kind of look like the Zildjian A series.

  • hhx legacy ride is amazing for this stuff.

  • xs20 meduim ride, is awesome

  • ....don't use the china....X.X

  • 18 ozone!!! nice...
