Actually a2birdcage he was asking wat the point was. The reason why is when the barrel gets hot from shooting, the wood expands and adds stress to the barrel causing it to be less accurate. Glass bedding prevents this
@rabbiteh Some rifles actions aren't physically strong enough to support a free-floated barrel. The 10/22 is an example of this. For these rifles bedding the barrel will help with accuracy. A true free-floating barrel is always better though .....if possible.
@rabbiteh it doesn't touch. Once you remove the bedding tape from the barrel you've got the thickness of that tape as an air space between the barrel and the new glass bed.
This is interesting. I understand bedding a couple of inches in front to the action and up to the tang in the rear, but I've never seen bedding the entire barrel channel in front of the action, as this so I I thought, would once again hug the entire barrel defeating the purpose bedding?
I'm simply speaking out loud, as Mr. Potterfield never responds to our emails.
i have a remington 770 in .300 win mag and it has a synthetic stock and i was just wondering, can you glass bed a synthetic stock? if not then what can i do to make it more accurate?
Larry, I am a huge fan of your videos, but I must say I preferred the older style with you in your Midway workshop - having you rise up mysteriously from the bottom of the frame, like the Loch Ness Monster really isnt the L.P. we all know and love.....
@ru708 Glass bedding helps add rigidity to the part of the stock the rifle action is bedded in. This makes the contact even, and stronger where the action attaches so nothing moves after each shot, thus improving accuracy. if the moves or warps, especially in wooden stocked rifles, your accuracy will decrease as well. it pretty much keeps everything consistent.
Im serious. I hate tv but I do love outdoor channel and Wednesday nights MidwayUSA sponsors a bunch of shows. Between shows and advertisements youll see Mr Potterfield demonstrate some new cool as hell tip on something with firearms or reloading.
This man is a freaken genius! His devout love for firearms definitely shows in his attitude and professionalism too.

So, this is only useful for wooden stocks, correct?

@nonamelef No. It's actually more popular in synthetic stocks.

what does glass bedding do?
how dose it help the accuracy?
