I have a hard time interpreting the word that way. In the Old Testament, elohim was also used for angels, and I doubt it was meant to be inferred that people worshipped angels as that was strictly forbidden in the Mosaic Law. The Hebrew word itself COULD mean that definition, however, most words in context carry a different connotative meaning.
@icentfindaname it does not only mean god. in opposite to "jahwe" "elohim" also means the migthy side of god, which you have to fear if you violate his laws...
@DexWulf123 I don't know if you were actually meaning to insinuate this, but it sounds like you said Mormons are Christians... They're not. They do not believe in the Trinity, hence they are not Christians. At first glance, they do appear to be Christian, so I'm not mocking or anything. I'm just trying to spread the knowledge. :)
@thenerevarine13 They're only 'Christian' by name, not in practice. This goes double for Jehovah's Witnesses, since they two don't believe in a Triune God. How can they worship an 'Eternal Father' if he doesn't have an 'Eternal Son'? If The Son was created aeons ago, then that being they worship isn't an Eternal Father, for he has a Finite Son.
@DexWulf123 where in the bible does it say that a eternal father has to have an eternal son? i have read the bible never seen that scripture. i think the reasoning put forth that to be the eternal father he would have to have a eternal son is way to simplistic.since he is the father of all things created and things to be yet created that includes us in the former. he would sitll be the eternal father even without an eternal son as long as any life lives or creation is here.
@rawbrutaltruth Way too simplistic? There is no such thing as way too simplistic when it comes to logical conclusions. There is only simple or complex. Anyways. God's either an Eternal Father, or an Eternal Bachelor who became a Father about [insert X aeons here]. You cannot be a father without a son. You cannot be an Eternal Father without an Eternal Son. Ergo the Son must be Eternal as well. You cannot include finite creation within an equation dealing with the infinite.
@DexWulf123 love the music......can a man be a father and not have any natural offspring? just saying more to the subject than what is presented.sometime one must think broader and deeper than one has been taught and some things thought to be logical may only hold up by incomplete consideration of all facts know to them at the time. not to mention those not known.
@DexWulf123 oh really? well i didnt know that. i am just familiar with Mormon stuff cause i'm studying it right now and my explanation was the first thing that popped into my head haha. (im not Mormon tho)

The "El" is singular indicating one entity; the "him" is plural indicating more than one. So most scholars interpret it as one being in many forms.
TheLegacyHero 2 months ago
@TheLegacyHero Actually, Elohim is a Hebrew word for the God they worshiped.
