I'm a novice sailor. It seems that the downwind run is the operation that gives the helmsman the least control and makes a broach most likely, especially in gusty weather, no? I don't have a spinnaker so I don't have quite the same risk. These videos are useful to demonstrate the danger, but I'm not clear on how to avoid it.
BS , The chute never touched the water , they never dipped the spreaders , I have sailed the bay more than 40 yrs , if they call this a knock down , then maybe they should drive a cable car .
I hate broaching, especially in dinghies. That wasnt really a knockdown by the way cos the spinnaker sheet wasnt tight enough so it just lost its power as it swung round...
it's just not professional sailing, it's shows how the rich people can't even sale in SF bay area.

Wow! The thrill of sailing!

You can see it was blowing like stink. That is part of the thrill. If things like this didn't happen occasionally you aren't pushing hard enough :)

Never, never, never let the guys go. First sign of broach, blow the spinnaker sheet.

You can get into a lot more trouble downwind than up, that's for sure.
