We have the capability and the technology to make an abundance of everything we 'need' without everyone working a full time 'job'.....it isn't jobs that we want.....it's access to what we 'need' without having to earn 'money'. Learn about the Resource Based Economy being advocated by the Zeitgeist movement and the Venus Project. In that system everyone would only have to be willing to 'voluntarily' work for just a few hours a week to have access to absolutely everything they need.
I have dedicated a vlog to helping my fellow recession grads with good tips that I have used myself to get a job as someone who graduated twice during a recession. Click on my picture and check out my channel.
How can MOST Americans be internationalized when 70% Americans don't even have passports???????????
The lack of exposure is the No1 cause of IGNORANCE amongst Americans.
Thier parents also hv very little idea of guiding their kids down the correct career path.......and hence, dear Tyrone thinks it's so fashionable to get a degree in Psychology or Political Science, and then join "Save The Whales" to sail around the world wasting his time.
Ask the HR Dept of big companies such as Siemens US.
They hv LOTS of vacancies.
BUT....most American kids think it's so "cool" to study Psychology, and other Social Sciences, arts and literature WITHOUT knowing what kind of jobs they can get with those qualifications.
IGNORANCE, COMPLACENCY, LACKADAISICAL
Look at the smart Asians...engineering, hi-tech mfg studies, IT, finance, etc.......
THESE are the qualifications that US big employers are seeking.
Even if the Govt revamps the education system, it's still totally useless.
It's the MENTALITY and ATTITUDE of the American kids, inculcated by their parents who share those same mentality that results in MILLIONS of American kids having not much interest in obtaining REAL education and qualifications......those that can secure proper jobs.
Look at the MILLIONS who choose Social Sciences, Arts, Literature........they all think it's so "cool". Psychology can't get you that new job.
Hey, I don't know who you work for...probably the Universities Vice Chancellors' Union... but, I'm amazed at the conniving-to-in debt-and-impoverish students drive...well done, business round tables and councils of the neo-liberal hue... we will see you imprisoned when we account for your misdeeds. Either that, or the revolution... I opt for the first, as the second may be less forgiving.. once more, three cheers for neo-liberals with turgid hearts..hip, hip..
Well government really fuck'd us over, The party we voted for, stabbed us in the back, made our education fees 3 times higher with no guarantee of a job at the end. While expecting us to pay for the debts of the generation before us and anyone who has no choice but to claim benefits will received severely reduced amounts. I feel my generation has been written off, forced to take the hit for the rest of the country.
I know a few engineers that left the US and found work in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia, etc etc because the requirements for entry-level in the US even for the most technical jobs is waaay over demanding they want so much and on top of that atleast 5-8 years of working experience. This is currently what is happening in the US its an HR nightmare. I don't know what is happening in Australia's business community. Me I own a company in Japan so I don't complain about unemployment.
Also it is becoming more competitive for all new graduates regardless of major because some companies simply aren't wanting to hire college graduates. They want the best, they don't want what can be potential. Also remember Australia's economy is fairing better than the US. my sister is an accountant, and her job only pays $15 an hr. in the US. She worked as a temp for the company at first, and competed with 80 people to get 1 of 2 open positions for full time employment.
not necessarily the case. This is true in Japan, but this isn't true anywhere else. Anyway people need a better understanding of what they can do with their degrees. Where should they l look, etc etc. Instead people who do have an understanding tend to marginalize their job options, choose a really specialized field that rarely recruits, and then they neglect to do things such as internships, thank professors, speak with professors and professionals in the field.
if they had bothered to do some of those things then it really doesn't matter if you receive a job offer during or after college. Most graduates I know got their dream job offers after graduation, and just enjoyed their break doing part-time work that gave them some skills. One such friend now works for Chesapeake Energy. Anyway I read this great article that speaks on the commonalities that losers have with each other, things they neglect to do, etc.
Yea you can go anywhere in the world with those degrees, but you cannot expect every American to get one of those degrees. Basically my whole point in all of this is. Study what you like, but know what you can do with it. You can do something withe very major if you're willing to earn the credentials for it, and do the research to see where exactly do you job hunt. I've seen humanity majors job hunt in banking and though OMG I mean international studies/business can do this but what!!
they are going to provide loans for postgrad study...hummm....see the weired thing is I couldnt get a loan to do an MA at my uni but im told i can have funding for a PGCE at another uni, how does that work
I think I played myself by going to college ! I have over $20,000 in student loans that I have 2 start paying back in a few months and cant even find a decent job. I think I would've been better off if I never went to college because I wouldnt have this big ass debt hanging over my head. At this point I will take any job that comes available to me. Its bad that I might end up settling 4 a job that I could've gotten without having a college degree. Its not what u know its who u knw in 2days world
@ChevyBoy1987 I totally agree with ya. I know people who have gotten jobs in my field that didn't even have a degree because "daddy works there". Ya right, who'd you blow to get that job I'd tell her haha.
that isn't bad depending on the type of loan you took out. If you have a subsidized federal loan, then you're in luck, and should consider doing things that boast your resume, and help defer, pay off loans. Peace Corps, etc etc. 20k in debt is not too bad. a university degree is to our generation of what a home mortgage was to the previous generation.

@dmeiske1 its easier said than done to start a business.... but your right going to college is stupid unless you are doing health care, law or accounting...
it is still a huge risk.look if everyone followed your advice then no one is definitely going to find a job. Wa wa wa, Graduates still stand more chance than non-graduates. Why do graduates assume that they are more worthy of work? Graduates who graduate with soft degrees need to lower their standards instead of whining, IMO.
@cnavaro88 Of course having a degree is better than not having one, but that's not really the point. The point is that for years during school we're told that getting a degree is a ticket to success, and all our hard work will pay off.
Only when we finally graduate do we really learn the truth, that the job market is utterly saturated and prospects are grim. For every 1 graduate job, there are 70 graduates competing for that job.
So what's the alternative? Get a job without a degree?
Been there, done that. Working for minimum wage as your full time career is not pretty. I suppose jobs like a police officer and the like are available to non-grads, but they're just as competitive. Gettign a degree DOES make you much more employable. Perhaps not to the extent of 50 years ago, but it still does significantly improve your chances.
@cnavaro88 Sorry but you've clearly misconstrued what I said.
No one is saying get a job without a degree. No one is saying non-grad jobs aren't competitive. No one is saying having a degree doesn't make you more employable. Honestly, what are you rambling on about?
Perhaps you should reread my previous comment, because you seem to have spun wildly off-course for no apparent reason.
@sbowesuk People pay all this money for college yet colleges lie about their "job placement" rates and most of them don't help out their students and never really throw them a bone, even the top students. College is a debt trap. I can't tell you how many professors I've had that lack real world experience because they aren't caught up on things. And the people who have full time jobs that graduated more than 10 years ago don't realize how lucky they are.
"We must be mad, literally mad, as a nation to be permitting the annual inflow of some 50,000 dependants, who are for the most part the material of the future growth of the immigrant-descended population. It is like watching a nation busily engaged in heaping up its own funeral pyre. So insane are we that we actually permit unmarried persons to immigrate for the purpose of founding a family with spouses and fiancés whom they have never seen."
this has been a problem for a long time, this all stems from about 10-15 years ago when the government simply wanted to fill our streets with graduates, what the didnt do was look to see if there were any jobs. This was likely done to impress the EU about how educated we are, but it failed. In the summer i heard the news saying 'some might not be able to go to university' - well isnt that the whole f**king point. University is about eltism, like it or not.
Dis gov isss fked, instead of spending money wars i.e. Afghanistan, Iraq, (next iran) help your own civilians, were running dry, tax is increasin, food prices increasing, oil increasing, house prices increasing, student education prices increasing BUT jobs decreasing, and when there are jobs left it seems the salaries r decreasing WtF, its like da gov want us to sell crack n canabis.

John Enoch Powell, 20/4/1968
