  • @TheStandofTheLastGuy Thank you for taking an interest in my comment. The EU is essentially comprised of nations that choose to become members. Some countries like the UK do this without consulting their populations, with the government of the day assuming the power vested in them by the electorate. This is the essential difference between an institution that has came together by conquering. As for being an EU lover, I did not voice my support or otherwise for it. I simply used it as an example.

  • fuck that. 10 saes and ryan giggs. Ryan I know you dont need them but.....

  • They should do a tournament between the 4 nations and the winner will represent the UK

  • Nationalist prick. Who is he to say there should be no British football team? You have no say in the matter, Dai, now get back to what you should be doing, and that's making Wales a better place.

Team GB footy team for the gold lol!

  • Did you even understand what he said?

Look - We don't want anything to do with a 'Team GB' football team, simple.

Why not you have a English football team, we can have a Welsh team and Scotland have their own too - simple.

  • England, Wales and Scotland aren't considered to be countries by the IOC, so each having their own team is out of the question.

  • Nah - there's been plenty of presidents set for 'extraordinary' teams competing without IOC considering them countries.

-There was the 'Unified Team' of 1992

-In 2000 there was an 'Individual Olympic Athletes' team for athletes from East Timor

    - There was due to be a 'Team Korea' in 2008

    - Hong Kong have had their own team even after reunification with China.

  • There's a wider debate to be had on whether the union should have a single team- Is it right that whenever a Welsh athele wins gold they have to endure the same national anthem which the English Rugby and football team proudly sing along too? We have our own flag and anthem.... why not use that?

Just look at the homecoming parade for our athletes ('3IH82f-J93U') to see which countries flag they choose to drape on their backs.... try to spot the union flag in there too!

  • God Save the Queen is the British national anthem, so I don't see why it matters when a Welshman has to 'endure' it. I am Welsh, and I would proudly drape the Union Jack on my back, I am British first and foremost.

You are a British citizen whether you like it or not. You should be proud of your country.

  • No - 'God save the queen' was the English anthem well before politians dreamt up the idea of the union....

If you're really a welshman... you seem lack a bit of national pride... a quick google of your name and I read 'How is Wales not England? Wales is in Britian, is it not? Therefore Wales IS England'

I am proud of my country - it's a very different country to England... Even English people will agree we're neighbours & friends -but we're not the same.

  • Haha so now you're stalking me? On the video you found, I was winding up a Welsh nationaist I think. I'm obviously aware that Wales is not England.

Do you not consider the UK to be your country?

  • No - the UK is a political union of countries - like a small European union.

There's a number of way even the most ardent 'unionist' can tell that the UK is a union not a country.

    - Politians created it when they signed the 'act of union' in 1707.

    - The official name for the flag is 'the union flag'

    - The union is made up of countries... each with their own flag, capital city (and anthem).

    - Even wikipedia calls Wales 'a country' but the UK is a 'unitary state consisting of four countries'.

  • Your wikipedia argument is invalid, as it also calls the UK a country.

The UK is not a union in the same way that the EU is, it is a Nation State. Wales, is not a state, the UK is. Wales is a country in name only.

  • So... Gerrard doesn't play for his country... he plays for his... region?

Wales is a country, as is Scotland, as is England - Scotland even used the marketing slogan 'Welcome to the Best Small Country in the world'.

Yes, it's true - we're currently in the union so, we lack the self determination other countries such as Ireland enjoy - but that doesn't make us less of a country.... nor Welsh no longer our nationality!

  • No, you are right. The UK is not a union like that of the EU. Members of the EU joined voluntarily. The UK was created by an act of aggression by England whose desire to create an empire started with the conquering of Wales, Scotland and Ireland. So, how can you even think to call it a union? The term 'united' is perhaps the biggest historical joke ever.

  • You'd choose the union before your country?

I think you're out of step with reality mate.

  • The union is my country, sunshine. It's yours, too.

  • Lord grant that Marshall Wade,

    may by thy might aid,

    victory bring.

    May he sedition hush,

    and like a torrent rush,

    rebellious Scots to crush,

    God save the King/Queen.

Pardon me, as a Scot, if I don't feel it's my national anthem.

    Independence now. Greetings to Wales.

  • There have been different versions of the anthem and different people wrote different verses. This verse refers to REBELLIOUS Scots. Wouldn't you agree they should be crushed?

  • And when racists cite 'bastard foreigners' as a problem, am I to believe they mean only the 'bastard' ones?

You hear an adjective; I hear my name.

  • It sounds like you have been through some sort of persecution. Decide whether you want to just "rise above it" or if it requires more serious action.

  • Oh dear.

  • Why do Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, Newport, Colwyn Bay etc STILL play in English football when they now have a fully national league in Wales complete with Champions League/Europa League qualification places?

  • A Scottish coach, a substitute from Wales, and a sponge man from Belfast.

The Celtic countries aren't represented in the union; why would they be represented in the union team?

    No "Team GB". No GB.

(All the best to Wales, by the way).

  • Dr Dai! You have as much knowlege about football or the Olympics for that matter, as you have of knowing how to keep your weight and blood pressure in check.

  • Cwych!! Gwaith da Plaid Cymru.
