I am a hunter myself and am a supporter of conservation. I understand the purpose of quotas and why they are established, but I don't understand why others can't be the same way. All official whaling countries have quotas. For instance, Iceland has been hunting around 40 Minke whales a year, out of a stock of around 100 thousand animals. That's less than half a percentage of the entire stock around Iceland.
There are likely around a million Minke whales in the world today.

They then sell the whale in various pieces. The market for such things has greatly decreases, and it is coming very close to being unprofitable for the whalers. They do not use the whale bodies in the same way that the Inuit do (which is every single piece gets used - fat and meat for food, bones are carves in traditional art

Whales may be becoming exticnt, and they are beautiful animals but they live freely for throughout their lives until hunted. Farmed animals (such as pigs and chickens) suffer far more cruelty and at a much larger scale. The whalers are no more cruel than any other butcher of animals.

@SpeedoZippy There's over 130,000 Minke whales inhabiting this planet. The estimated number that is allowed to be fished without endangering the Minke whales is roughly 2,000 a year. Currently, the Japanese whalers are fishing about 2,000 a year already. As cruel as this may look, they are well within the boundry of whaling without causing any harm to the breed itself. The only problem is that they at times fish other endangered whales that shouldn't be touched like blue whales.
