what version of maya did they use to make these incredible visual effects? And don't recommend the more modern version of maya I want the version they used cuz it looks more simplier and less complex then the newer versions of maya.
Hi @Necronom23 . I was wondering where you got this featurette? I swear I have seen it before on one of my many dvds, but can't for the life of me remember where!
ILM vs. Weta Digital??? That is the question. I go with ILM, because it was around a lot longer and does effects for much more films...but the look of the effects between the two companies come so close, they are both so amazing, it is a hard pick!
well, I know how to use MAYA, and yeah is wonderful, the bad thing is, that you take a lot of time for a simple animation, not to talk about the creation of the character, so I hear they used 500 shots? DAMN, U really need some help for that!
I sure am, Avatar is going to be EPIC I reckon. That, and "The Hobbit" - I think they'll will be great. I remember one of my teachers reading it to us as kids.
Sweet I'll have to check those out! I hope 3D movies become the norm one day. At the rate we're going I think it will :P we've already got pretty futuristic stuff like animated digital photoframes (quite harry potter'ish ^_^) I think we're in for a great few decades of advanced technology.
About 3D, everyone's eyes are on 'Avatar' because of all it represents, it's the game changer. If it succeeds, pretty much everyone is going to want to make 3D movies.
Indeed, anything I see on the news about Avatar I watch it in a flash lol :) With movies gradually becoming 3D, hopefully it will also bring the downfall of movie piracy - making more movies able to afford the 3D pricetag.
In case you didn't know, I want to share this little discovery with you. Watch a 2D video (i.e Avatar's 2nd trailer) and close one of your eye. You'll have the impression that the video is in 3D! It's so fun!
I'll go to see it out of curisoty but it looks like it will be crap. I was curious about Cameron's promisies of it looking realstic but it looks like ya typical raster renders. District 9 is class if you havent seen it yet.
No! But I like its individuality and they great Effects and also Jason Schleifer how animated the Golum in a few scenes and also worked at Madagascar 2 now....
The guy who played Gollum should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor. I know Gollum was completely CGI, but Gollum would be nothing if it was not for Andy Serkis
Weta is a Visual Effects company by Peter Jackson. They did the visual effects for Lord of The Rings 1,2 and 3, Heavenly Creatures, King Kong, I, Robot and many others. They've won 4 Academy Awards.
Inustrial Light & Magic is founded by George Lucas. They did the visual effects for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Roger Rabbit, Jurassic Park 1, 2,3 and soon 4, Forrest Gum and many others. They've won several Academy Awards.
What is this? An Alias commercial? :) BTW it's exhactly as Kjhoward said: to enter Weta is really better if you know someone working in the department you want to apply to. The real secret of recruitment in those big companies is: 60% luck, 40% other. And of course you need to be good, but don't think that u need to be already a monster, you need to show passion and potential. When DNegative or MPC are recruiting really fast they take a lot of morons too, we are all human after all :)
i dont think thats true. i mean if your peter jacksons son/daughter and you want to work for weta digital but you have no skills in cgi, then just because you know or are related to peter jackson doesnt mean there automatically gonna hire you.

not Alias anymore, Maya is owned by AutoDesk (also 3DS Max)

...and Mudbox as well.
Autodesk is pretty much buying everything out.
I wonder though - like surely anyone does in the vfx-industry - if that will be a good thing or a bad thing...?

Tintin and the Secret of the Unicorn too, fully CGI motion-capture. It's supposed to be photorealistic too!

I wouldn't say that. I love both.
Imagine: if ILM was not there, films would look way different today. ILM make film history, so did Weta.
