  • Maya s-u-c-k-s

  • what version of maya did they use to make these incredible visual effects? And don't recommend the more modern version of maya I want the version they used cuz it looks more simplier and less complex then the newer versions of maya.

  • What is the name of the opening song? Who wrote it?

  • Qual o nome dessa música da abertura ? quem a compôs?

  • Hi @Necronom23 . I was wondering where you got this featurette? I swear I have seen it before on one of my many dvds, but can't for the life of me remember where!

  • I'm on a boat!

  • i live in New Zealand like a boss new zealand is definitely the best country

  • ILM vs. Weta Digital??? That is the question. I go with ILM, because it was around a lot longer and does effects for much more films...but the look of the effects between the two companies come so close, they are both so amazing, it is a hard pick!

  • two people are from ILM

  • @Necronom23

whats the name of the intro song

  • Thanks for sharing and posting. Thank you.

  • You think they like Maya?

  • what is the name of the song's introduction of the video?

  • ALIAS!

  • well, I know how to use MAYA, and yeah is wonderful, the bad thing is, that you take a lot of time for a simple animation, not to talk about the creation of the character, so I hear they used 500 shots? DAMN, U really need some help for that!

  • Legal manow hahahhs

  • Hey I used to live near there!

  • wellington is like a mini hollywood town

  • how do these guys do it its so hard

  • Take a good hard look cause he's sitting on a boat!

  • thanks Alias that was very educational.

  • not Alias anymore, Maya is owned by AutoDesk (also 3DS Max)

  • ...and Mudbox as well.

Autodesk is pretty much buying everything out.

I wonder though - like surely anyone does in the vfx-industry - if that will be a good thing or a bad thing...?

  • I want to work for WETA one day

  • You are not alone! ;-) Are you looking foward to James Cameron's Avatar? That's the next BIG movie where WETA is going to show us its magic!

  • I sure am, Avatar is going to be EPIC I reckon. That, and "The Hobbit" - I think they'll will be great. I remember one of my teachers reading it to us as kids.

  • Tintin and the Secret of the Unicorn too, fully CGI motion-capture. It's supposed to be photorealistic too!

  • Sweet I'll have to check those out! I hope 3D movies become the norm one day. At the rate we're going I think it will :P we've already got pretty futuristic stuff like animated digital photoframes (quite harry potter'ish ^_^) I think we're in for a great few decades of advanced technology.

  • About 3D, everyone's eyes are on 'Avatar' because of all it represents, it's the game changer. If it succeeds, pretty much everyone is going to want to make 3D movies.

  • Indeed, anything I see on the news about Avatar I watch it in a flash lol :) With movies gradually becoming 3D, hopefully it will also bring the downfall of movie piracy - making more movies able to afford the 3D pricetag.

  • In case you didn't know, I want to share this little discovery with you. Watch a 2D video (i.e Avatar's 2nd trailer) and close one of your eye. You'll have the impression that the video is in 3D! It's so fun!

  • @shletten And it did succed, it made over 2.7 Billion and now everyone is going 3D.

  • I'll go to see it out of curisoty but it looks like it will be crap. I was curious about Cameron's promisies of it looking realstic but it looks like ya typical raster renders. District 9 is class if you havent seen it yet.

  • You worked at WETA?

  • No! But I like its individuality and they great Effects and also Jason Schleifer how animated the Golum in a few scenes and also worked at Madagascar 2 now....

  • The guy who played Gollum should have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor. I know Gollum was completely CGI, but Gollum would be nothing if it was not for Andy Serkis

  • what about the props and costume department and can you meet peter

  • man thats awesome im so glad i got into this kind of work i wonder what working for'em like ?

  • whats weta and ilm?

  • ILM stands for Industrial Light and Magic, I think George Lucas starter ILM for Star Wars.

  • Weta is a Visual Effects company by Peter Jackson. They did the visual effects for Lord of The Rings 1,2 and 3, Heavenly Creatures, King Kong, I, Robot and many others. They've won 4 Academy Awards.

Inustrial Light & Magic is founded by George Lucas. They did the visual effects for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Roger Rabbit, Jurassic Park 1, 2,3 and soon 4, Forrest Gum and many others. They've won several Academy Awards.

  • I wouldn't say that. I love both.

Imagine: if ILM was not there, films would look way different today. ILM make film history, so did Weta.

  • yeah ILM and WETA are both amazing studios and theres no reason why one should be better than the other

  • what is the name of the software??

  • Maya

  • better than ILM, i agree with that

  • 1 of the Top 5 greatest CGI effects movie of all time. Hail Weta!

  • What is this? An Alias commercial? :) BTW it's exhactly as Kjhoward said: to enter Weta is really better if you know someone working in the department you want to apply to. The real secret of recruitment in those big companies is: 60% luck, 40% other. And of course you need to be good, but don't think that u need to be already a monster, you need to show passion and potential. When DNegative or MPC are recruiting really fast they take a lot of morons too, we are all human after all :)

  • GO WETA DIGITAL!

  • If you belong to best of the top ..then perhaps ..

  • its not what you know but who you know : )

  • i dont think thats true. i mean if your peter jacksons son/daughter and you want to work for weta digital but you have no skills in cgi, then just because you know or are related to peter jackson doesnt mean there automatically gonna hire you.

  • i wish one day i will work at weta digital and inshallah i am very hopeful that i will meet my dream of working with the great team of weta digital

  • How awesome would it be to work at Weta, I have my sights set on this company.

  • I hear they run their artist pretty ragged compared to a lot of other studios.

  • they get the job done better than other studios

  • Very true but it's no excuse to work your artists to the bone.
