  • I never read the book but the film was quite confusing to me, I know it was about growing up and escapism from reality. I felt there was too many beasts and some you couldnt exactly relate to or establish why they are there - confused!

  • Max should have his own channel

  • This is my favorite of your reviews. Glad you all liked the movie so much, it was one of the best movies I'd seen last year.

  • @CineRam Thanks! This film still holds a warm place in my heart since last year.

  • This movie was okay. I thought that it was a bit violent for a picture book, haha.

  • Cute review! My name is Max too and when I was young I was just like your kid! I loved this movie. Out of all the reviewers on youtube you guys are definitely some of the coolest, have a happy easter or whatever :P

    PS - Adaptation rules too!

  • Cute review! My name is Max too and when I was young I was just like your kid! I loved this movie. (Adaptations a brilliant one too). Out of all the reviewers on youtube you guys are definitely some of the coolest, have a happy easter or whatever :P

  • This is really cool thanks.

  • This is really cool thanks.

  • What are you two doing? You're hurting that boy! This boy obviously didn't like this movie, like any other normal kid, and you're forcing ideas down his throat, the kid is just yessing you to death! He doesn't need your negative bullshit he needs POSITIVITY!

You two are just as dark and screwed up as this movie was! Run kid, run away!!! Get away from these two negative assholes!! Go watch The Dark Crystal or Star Wars! Life is not about being miserable, its about being POSITIVE and HAPPY!!

  • I remember reading that book when I was a kid years back. Looking forward to seeing this flick. Doesn't look like your usual children's flick. But then again Spike Jonze isn't your usual director! LOL

Excellent review as always. Very nice pic at the end of the vid. Is that baby Max?

  • Yes, that's Max on his red carpet debut! ;)

  • Thanks for the review. I'm hoping to take my son to see this tomorrow. Sounds like he may be challenged, but I don't regard this as a negative thing - children's literature has a rich seam of darker themes that I'm sad to say hasn't been mined enough in mvoies yet. I'm hoping this will be a film that stays special for him, like the book did for me.

  • Thanks for your comment! I do hope your son gets something out of it. I am looking forward to rewatching it with Max at different age intervals, to get something new out of it each time.

  • JESUS! don't intergate the boy!

  • What a great review! The best reviewers on Youtube! You guys are great. I agree with you on every word. Gandolfini is great, and spike jonze is a true artist! the greatest director ever to grace Earth. I think this is the greatest movie ever. Just because it's so true and real. P.S. i love adaptation, and being john malkovich! great review guys, let's hope Spike keeps making these gems.
  • Great Great Great review!

out of all reviews on youtube, your's is certainly the best. You capture all the right feelings of this movie. And how your son can identify them is amazing as well. This is such a real movie. And i agree with you Gandolfini was great! Spike Jonze is the most creative, artistic man ever.

p.s. i love adaptation, and being john malkovich, as well!

  • Ahh, isn't he a cutie.

  • stop now. just stop. seriously

    this movie SUCKED SO MUCH!

i watched it with 2 of my little cuzns. not even they liked it.

    it was horrible.

  • good review. i think it was a great idea to have Max give his views on the film; though i guess as you say, not all kids will understand or relate to it as well as Max. still, as i mentioned in my other comments, not having to worry about bringing kids to see it, it doesn't bother or affect me, and i do like Spike Jonze from what little i've seen so it sounds like i'm gonna like this film..looking forward to it. thanks for the review~

  • Great Review! I just saw this movie and really enjoyed it. I'll admit it was a bit dark at times but charming in it's own way! :)

  • Oh stop it!!! This movie sucked. It was about a brat who needed discipline. My kids thought it was disturbing there was nothing to cry about . What unconditional love???? Cut the crap.

  • AWW!! your son is adorable^^

its great that he managed to feel some emotions for this film.where you mentioned that the beasts might represent some of the characters own feelings, thats the type of thing that draws me to a movie, the hidden meanings to it. and to see this (which is usually only used in more adult films) in a kids film is a great thing to see. people don't give kids enough credit, they understand more than you think they can, and giving them a more mature view is a good thing^^

  • Great Review! Looks like i'll have to check it out!

  • Thanks for the message, I really liked the review!

  • I loved little Max's inclusion, but I'm at the 4 minute mark and he's got kind of an, "okay, grown-up talking time. Still here, la dee daa..." look on his face. XD

Haha, this is fun. I'm definitely liking this and I'll be checking out your other reviews soon after this.

  • smart kid, great movie too. I dont know how a kid could get scared of this, it was amazing.

  • this is a wonderful review! and I think it is great that you got a child's opinion!! and I think Max is right the movie definitely 10 stars :)

  • GREAT REVEIW

  • Nice review. I think people in this country too often underestimate children and what they're capable of. Funny that you should bring up Cloudy w/ a Chance of Meatballs, cuz I think that's the perfect example of the type of media condescension of children that we see so often these days. We need more kids' films like Wild Things - that provoke thought and intelligent conversation, and not food raining from the sky.

  • This film taught kids that their is more to life than merchandise. Kids are flooded with adverts that teach them that they will only feel complete by buying a product (toys etc). this film lets kids know that developing meaningful relationships is more important than commodity fetish. Most kid flicks have a rightwing overtone that preaches a warped view of good and evil. I think this film promotes logic and reasoning.I love your review btw.Its nice to see parents explain film to kids.

  • awesome review. thanks. you auto get a sub !

  • love love love Adaptation! It's utterly brilliant.

    Wild Things was fantastic too.

  • This movie reminds me of a famous personal quote - "Treat children the way you want to be treated, with intelligence" It takes me back to how hard life was when I was just a kid, very little freedom, dependency...but the movie did teach me a lesson that children goes through the same struggle as we do, they just don't have more homework lol!

  • It was great..I loved the movie I have both soundtracks(The music and the score)..And I just understood Carol cause I feel like him alot of the time misunderstood and judged and well hurt by the things I've done..So to me it was like watching me in a 8 foot creature..But yeah good review I can't wait for the DVD

  • Wild Things is an amazing masterpiece to me. I don't see how anyone over the age of 6 wouldn't like this film (unless their brains are off during the films duration). I might see this film again but, it is a true gem that I'd put high up there as one of my favorite films.

  • Great review, nice to see that other people got the point of this movie. Followed the link from cineplex site to watch.

I would have to agree with most of this and like I said nice to know others appreciate this movie for what it is. Not a normal family movie because it actually deals with issues and feeling and is all around a good movie.

  • Thanks so much for following from the Cineplex site, and for your comment!

  • good review!

  • I really wanna see this movie so badly! It's one of my most anticipated movies of the year! Great review, guys! Nice to see that you did one with all three of you.

  • wonderful review!

  • that kid looks tense. The grownups could have been a bit more laid back with him.

  • Max was actually not feeling well that day... And he's still getting used to the whole reviewing thing! I think if you watch other reviews with Max, you'll see they're pretty laid back...

  • Great review. Unfortunately as a 19 year old I was displeased with the movie..It was too odd for me.

  • this is a very interesting concept for a review.

this film reminded me of a dr, suess quote "children are just as smart as you or i, they just don't know as many big words." i hope hollywood will this film's example and make kids films that treat kids with intelligence.

  • Well constructed review, enjoyed addressing issues potential viewers of the film might have based on buzz surrounding Where the Wild Things Are. Truly deserves to be seen and hopefully appreciated, this is my most unexpectedly great film of the year. For films that children can enjoy as much or more I say this and "Up" are easily the best of 2009.

  • Great review. A movie like this that has to be carried by a kid who has to show such emotions could have very easily been cheapened or awkward if he had over or underacted - Max's subtle facial expressions were perfect.

The voice talent was also exceptional and I like the realness of having people in costumes instead of everything being virtual. If I were a beastie I would either be KW or Alexander (they were both strong aspects of my own personality).

  • Such a great review!

I love how detailed you guys went, and how you portraid the movie for its good qualities and didnt bash on it

It was really a beautiful movie.

I love the tri-generation thing going on ^_^

  • Love your reviews

  • YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME !!!

Thanks so much for this review.

I loved how you had 3 different generational perspectives.

And YES !! I agree, Max should have his own channel :)

I LOVED the film. Everyone can get something out of it. People who aren't "getting it" should just be a bit more vulnerable and open their hearts. Once they do that, they will be able to see themselves in the story.

I subscribed to you guys !!!!!

    Can't wait for future reviews.

    Baskets of love,

    Missy <3

  • Great review especially through a kids perspective when i was a child i couldn't stand cheesy kids movies i liked movies like never ending story, dark crystal, labyrinth, legend, time bandits etc all a bit dark but not cheesy this movie was my kind of movie. My daughter loves this movie along with movies like coroline, nightmare before christmas, james and the giant peach,Edward scissors hands etc and she is 9.. Great review !! ****Stars!!

  • Glad to see you three together. Hope to see more.

  • wow, u guys really liked it that much? reeeeeally? lol well to each its own i suppose, great review i think max should have his own spin off you tube channel btw, you rock man!

    -Wes

  • Very detailed review! Loved your critique!!

  • This is a great review! I liked the way you were trying to get your son to answer some questions based on what he said before. Unlike some people, I thought that was cute.

  • Thanks for sending the link. I enjoyed Where The Wild Things Are quite alot....and I am 47 years old. Tears in the eyes...and i NEVER weep at movies. Funny thing is though, my wife, who is WAY more emotional than I am, did not care for the film much at all.

  • I loved this book as a child and I hope to go and see this while its in the theater. Great review!

  • Great review you guys. This is definitely a movie that should be given at chance by everyone because there is something different for everyone to take away from this film.

  • great review

  • Great review! It's great to see all three of you reviewing it. I'll definitely give the film a watch, hopefully in theaters.

  • cute nice review :)

  • Thank you for sending me this link. I really look forward to seeing the film and when Australia finaly receives a rating for it, I hope to encourage my students to see it as well. Thanks again :-)

  • Thanks for watching & your comment above! Canadian ratings are usually more "easy-going" than US; the whole system is interesting.... I'd be interested to hear what Australia gives it! All the best to you & your kids!

  • Hell, this movie almost made me cry. XD

    Very great review, Max. :]

  • awesome review, it really is very emotional and deep film, I think the people that don't like it want to have everything handed to them and not try to think about or interpret anything. But anyway, great review, great movie! For everyone!

  • i love the idea of this but Gab you seem to be leading him. i know hes 7 and you gotta draw him out, maybe i just havent seen your other vids to get it.

  • I can see your point... I try to pose questions to draw him out, not influence him. Sometimes he mentions things off-camera, that I have in mind and so try to get him to express while filming. And with a complex film, I think a 7yr.-old may not even realize the thoughts that he may have about it; so then I try to contextualize it a bit. Anyway, I always think it's relevant to try to include a child's perspective when talking about a kid-related film!

  • As you said, the kid is 7 yrs old. If you just asked him what he thought of the film he would only give you a short answer, such as, "I liked it" of "I didn't like it" or "I liked the part when...". So we need to ask leading questions (as an educator) to draw good solid answers from children. A child would never think to converse the types of emotions they felt during the film unless asked.

  • I hated this film, It tried so hard to be artsy and intelligent but it failed. I HATED THE MAX CHARACTER, he was like a young there will be Blood.

  • It seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it kinda film, for sure.... Sorry to hear you're not a fan! Max was definitely wild; I myself hope wild boys don't grow up to be deviants... ;)

  • Firstly, thank you, all of you, so much for providing a new face to film criticism. It's so refreshing to see a wide range of people who love films giving their opinion without falling for pretension or ignorance. I seriously love you guys. Secondly, incredible review. I really cannot wait to go see the movie myself and i'll be sure to let you know what I thought about it. Stay groovy :)

  • Awesome review as always! I MUST see this! I think I will next week since it's Fall Break. Every critic that I trust (such as yourselves) has it's great so I'm really looking forward to it. It's cool that your son enjoyed it because I've heard it's hard for a lot of kids to really understand it. (Yes i know I'm only 15, lol).

  • Thanks! Max is pretty 'mature' (yes maybe I'm biased), so he can "get" that not every kids flick has to be rosy & perfect.... He certainly appreciated the imaginative aspects of this film, if not ALL the emotional layers that Dad & I did! ;)

  • Good to ask your son questions that most parents will want to know about for their kids. Smart! I'm glad you enjoyed it, I'm not the kind of person that feels that everyone must agree with me, I'd prefer people to have a good time enjoying the movie!

  • I wanna see this film!!!

  • Im going to see this tomorrow. Im really looking forward to it after this review Ill have a review tomorrow!!!

  • i wanna see this so bad

every1 is saying that its not your average family film

and the visuals just look amazing
