One of the few useful FMA tutorials on Youtube, easy to follow and clearly explained. Others seem more willing to impress than to make sure the wiever understands. This was exactly what i needed. Thank you for posting.
Watching a demo like this or from anyone posted in YouTube should be appreciated. No matter how bad their technique in your own opinion, there are still things you can learn. like not to do it in your fight.
Demonstration does not necessarily reflect your fighting technique. Because in a demo you sometimes over emphasis or exaggerated to show a point.
The way the lady practices her escrima is actually easy to follow. She does it with detail and in a speed easy to analyze and practice. I see nothing wrong with how she did it unless if another person from a different style critiques this. I really think it was done pretty well
I'm filipino and seeing other folks from other countries practice my country's art make me proud of the Philippines, its culture and its life. People who practice escrima/arnis/kali from other countries I feel tend to feel the same way too.
I practiced Arnis back then as PE in UST under Grandmaster Presas in IPMAF and was slated for demonstration team also in the Southeast ASian games but that was axed. Recently I got into Pekiti Tirsia Kali under Sifu Mcclendon under Wing Chun Kali
I agree...you can always something by watching others... if you can't then you're not really paying attention... thank you to anyone who takes the time to tape something and share it...
Most of the stuff you talk about makes sense. The only thing that bothers me is your footwork. Firstly, I've never seen an FMA style that incoorporates that sort of footwork and secondly, I don't see the point of it either. You may be getting out of an attackers axis of attack, but it looks as though you'd be easy to push over.
@rza2ch She refers to it as "cat stance." In Pekiti-Tirsia we employ a more dynamic version of this called "broken footwork" and is employed as a transitional footwork and for close-quarter range. Yes, if you stand still in one spot you will tip over if someone pushed you, which is why this footwork is supposed to be practiced in a very mobile manner and not standing still. But hey, I dunno what they use it for in their style.
@s3ksee Ahh, come to think of it I've used a similar style of footwork in close range. Like you said, it was much more dynamic though and my instructor's background was highly influenced by kung-fu. I'll see if I can find a video of him using it.
We hold the stick differently, I practice the sword and dagger technique.. there is around 2inches extra space below the hand at the grip for the long stick for smashing the opponents hand.
@77ARNIS Hello! Diffrent Eskrima groups may hold the sticks differently. Each grip has its strengths and weaknesses. Most styles hold the stick about an inch below the hand as you may know. Some with more than an inch (for hooking purposes during punyo training). Some, like Kali Ilustrisimo stylists, hold the stick at the very tip, with very little or no punyo, for maximum reach (KI is primarily a largo mano or long range style). Experiment and discover what grip is for you.
Addy I think you are a wonderful PRACTIONER of Martial Arts, I respect your style, patience, grace and attitude. the key word is PRACTICING people. Like doctor's have licenses to PRACTICE medicine. NO ONE IS PERFECT. People should REALLY stop putting each other down. And maybe we can get along in this crazy world. YEA, UR RIGHT HATAS, like that's gonna happen.
standing still you look beautifull, imagine those looks moving fast doing some eskrima techniques.. stuff that dreams are made of i'll bet :P thanks for the upload btw =]
a part of being a student is also to teach. through teaching you gain the perspective of not only trying to answer questions you already have but you get the perspectives from your "students". Because there will ALWAYS be students who will test you. Keep in mind she is in her 20's or she ages really really well...give it time. Even the best masters were not considered AMAZING MASTERS THAT RAINED THUNDER FROM RATTAN in their early to mid 20's.
very sexy. holding the stick considers balance, the impact and the pivot points. when ur smaller, u tend to grip the stick a little higher so that u can twirl and strike with lesser or no tension on ur wrist or arm. other forms (oido de caburata, sable) however uses the forefinger to control the impact, that's y they usually hold it closer to the end of the stick. doce pares abaniko hits with the flat of the blade, other abanikos lands with the blade. keep it up and more power.

I think any training tips concerning combat or martial applications should be considered usful if you practise what you're shown or taught, everything works to some degree in martial arts.
Abanico or Abaniko was derive from the motion of a FAN and it is a Curve Strike. I wonder what group do you belong coz ur using our name Doce Pares... Anyway, just continue practicing and teaching Eskrima...
I looked at this clip, and I didn't hear Addy say she was the best at doing this. Listen up ppl!! "THIS IS WHY WE TRAIN", you may feel this isn't her strong suit, and she might feel the same..but the ultimate goal is 2 get better. I have a couple of her sinawali dvds, and she holds her own. I respect what Addy/Joseph do, u might not agree with everything they do, or say...but a true martial artist does not get on here and start disrespecting other artist. Agree 2 disagree, but be respectful
@poogasboy Well said! I am a practitioner of multiple MAs, and the majority of comments I have found on Youtube in response to MA videos are all very negative and overly critical. I think that such nit-picking is unbecoming of a humble MArtist. I used to comments urging people to practice humility, but I gave up out of frustration. It is awesome to see that people like yourself are sticking up for MA practitioners and taking a stand against such condescension. Keep it up!
@rjsn2109 Could U please post a picture and upload some videos on weaponry. I would really like to C what style of Kali, Escrima or Arnis U represent !!! Thank U so much !!!!!!!
Nice vid, just be careful on your wrist doing the abaniko (fan) at 0:45 its bent especially working with heavier swords in Sayoc and AK kali that will get blocked and your stick or sword will come flying out.

Couldn't a person who studied under Doce Pares with association to one of the schools use the name? I'm asking because I'm newer to Eskrima/Kali.
