To think that his team competed in F1, IndyCar (or USAC which it was called back then) and Can-Am (which it totally dominated 1967-1971 winning 37 out of 43 races) with limited resources is a proof of the determination of one man.
Not to mention 3 Indy 500 wins, and the M6GT roadcar program which held so much promise.
Lovely job !! Bruce was so unlucky. When his car went out of control at Goodwood it hit the only solid object in the area - it could have gone anywhere else and he wouldn't have had a scratch.
bruce is a legend! pitty he gets hardy any recognition in NZ, real sad that many people in NZ dont even know what he did or that the mclaren team was founded by a new zealander
Absolutely right on Brother.......Bloody shame he never gets his due in any way really, such genius! and ALWAYS the gentleman! Motorsport today would do well to remember him and his character! this vid brings a tear to my eye, I'll admit it
God bless you Bruce!.......Thank you for all you have done for us motorsport fans, then and now!
same here bro brings a tear to my eyes to i was told the story of Bruce Mclaren growing up and i sure will be passing it on to my children. He might of gone 30 years ago but his legend will live on forever RIP Bruce another guy to show that kiwis can fly :)
@McLarenMercedes he is in my eyes! but if you say "bruce mclaren" to 98% of NZers wont know what the hell you are talking about, they probably would think that he is some sort of rugby player!
Friends of mine that like Formula 1 usually say things like:"This New Zeeland driver you mention. BRUCE McLaren?? That's pretty ironic he has the same name as the team in Formula 1." And I go:"No wonder, he was the founder of the team. In fact he won the first race for it."
If I am in a mood I explain that his team mate in Cooper, Jack Brabham, founded the Brabham team, which isn't around anymore.
Great video tribute. Bruce was a giant in the time when real men drove race cars and creativity was wide open. He'd be proud of the team that is his legacy, though I'm not so sure he would have liked what modern motor racing has become.
His death was ridiculously unlucky. His car went out of control testing at Goodwood and all around were huge spaces where he could have stopped safely. Instead it hit a disused concrete bunker for marshals which should have been removed long before.
IMMENSO BRUCE!
its a shame it doesn't happen like that these days! great vid. can-am will always be the best. there is a nice memorial at goodwood for bruce. rip bruce and the bear, the best and you are kiwi's!! makes me proud

I had the pleasure of seeing some of Bruce's old cars at the announcement of the movie they are making about him at the A1GP in Janurary. He is my idol.
I've met his sister and my father and I are about to join the Bruce McLaren Trust. I've also met Denny Hulmes wife. He was New Zealands first and only Formula One Wolrd Champion.
shame he couldnt see what his team have become.

The best team of F1 is established by the great Bruce. Ironically he is the only man killed in McLaren car.
