  • It's a great version of the song! But somehow in my ears Levi Stubbs version of it sounds kind of... "foreign" U know?

  • Just Another lonely Night should have been an album for The Temps and The Tops. It would have sold millions.

  • I never knew Levi sung this, too. I'd only heard Paul's version. Very nicely done. i like just as much.

  • TIMELESS !!!!!

  • When you compare the vocal talents of the Temptations & the Four Tops, you are comparing David, Eddie and Paul to one man Levi. You can't assume that one great awesome vocal talent is going to outshine the brilliant styles of David, Eddie, and Paul in a group, it isn't fair to compare all those guys to Levi Stubbs, he was great and had great hits. I attribute the difference between the two groups sounds to the diverse writing styles of their producers. Holland Dozier Holland, Smokey & Norman.

  • Great vocalas. Listen carefully ... Levi was Jackie Wilson's cousin. You may hear a "touch" of the JW style in Levi's soothing renderings. Motown was a birthing place for grreat, great writing, producing and, of course, vocal talent. Those truly were the days of great entertainment.

  • Great Track!!

  • In my opinion, I think the best version was done by The Fantastic Four in 1969.

  • I always enjoy hearing Motown acts taking their shot at a song that eventually was released by another Motown act. Levi is my favorite singer of all time. That being said, he didn't always knock every song out of the box. Paul Williams interpreted this song with much more passion and authority, while Levi sounded tentative in his delivery. Do you have Levi singing "This old heart of mine"? I've heard that the Four Tops really wanted that song, but the Isley Brothers won out. Thanks for the post.

  • Yea but Paul Williams gets longeron the Temps version, just as it sounds like Levi is about to get going the song ends! Apparently the Tops were in Europe touring, when HDH came up with "This Old Heart" so it was cut with the Isleys....

  • stubbs was awesome, listen to b sides like where did you go,if you dont want my love and threir most underrated track love has gone to hear levi at his absolute best

  • Another thing wes. What Four Tops' songs do you recommend as Stubbs at his best? With my limited knowledge my favorite Tops' song is "It's the Same Old Song".

  • Damn...how can you not love all this music.

Levi Stubbs was in a class by himself, he was and made the FourTops!!

But without question the Temps had more great vocals...

I am just so glad I grew up in an era when this music was "ours"...Kids today are being "stunted musically" with the crap they listen to and call music.

To be able to come here and enjoy this classic music is such a gift I hope never goes away...

    Happy New Year people!

  • On thing I forgot. I wish Gordy had done a lot more of the duets, like have the tempts and tops perform something together, that would have been awesome!!

  • I think they had a much more varied sound because they had three great singers that were so different, which allows variation. The tops had one great singer so the sound was tailored to his voice.

  • I think this is quite right, but even as individual singers, the Tempts (particularly Ruffin and Kendricks) were unusually versatile, more so than Stubbs I would claim.

  • Disagree with you there, im guessing your a Tempts fan, so youve probably only heard the mainstream Tops stuff?? Im telling you now you aint heard Stubbs sing till youve heard the stuff they arent famous for!!

  • I was in no way putting Levi down..I was just saying when you have multiple singers with different styles, it's easier to be more varied. When you have just one singer it's not as diverse.

  • Wes, this is a valid criticism. I admit I not very familiar with the Four Tops' catalog apart from their four or five most famous songs. I'll research this further, thanks.

  • Check out my other vids, stuff like "Honey, Climb Every Mountain, Fatherless Son, Just A Little Love" the list goes on!!

  • This is weird. Levi Stubbs with the Temptations. It's like mixing your apple juice with your orange juice. The Temptations and the Four Tops had different sounds and different vibes. I love both groups, but I've always felt the Temptations had a fresher more varied sound.

  • This is the smartest comment you have posted on the Tempts

  • I'll take that as a compliment, but considering that most of your comments are rather obtuse and even incoherent, I don't know how much credibility you have.

  • Actually my comments receive mainly thumbs up,so my comments have much wisdom in them and make sense. On the otherhand I would describe your comments as unintelligent and inarticulate.Speaking with logic isnt your thing.I tried to give you a compliment and then you reply with one of your imbecilic comments.

  • To put it simple, you always say stupid things when it comes to The Temptations,so your knowledge or lack of, shines very bright

  • tuzwol, you're a troll! A rather smug troll at that. There is nothing that I've posted on YouTube that can be described as unintelligent or illogical certainly relative to the caliber of comments on this site. Furthermore, unlike you I don't insult people simply because I disagree with them. I post on Tempts' threads because they're one of my all-time favorites and after being a causal fan for a number of years I recently "re-discovered" them. I don't come here to be berated by a nobody.

  • 0812820,you're a troll!!A rather smug troll at that and a hypocrite. There is nothing that I've posted on Youtube either that can be described as unintelligent or illogical also. You did insult me,you think I dont know what obtuse or incoherent means. Those are nice ways of saying stupid or being unable to speak intelligibly. If you dont come here to berate, then dont berate your damn self. You're a nobody because you are talking tough on the internet, what a loser

  • Great version
