i say zutara will never die ever. here are some of my zutara thoughts
1) zuko is the only one who can calm the war with in her self
2) yes as a CHILD zuko and mai liked echother but in life people grow and change and want diffrent things you think diffrent zuko would want katara beacuse of the connection they have with eacother
3) aang liked katara that deosn't mean katara HAS to like him back it is a fact ppl have had crushes that DIDN'T feel the same way back.
I like both Kataang and Zutara. The latter because of the whole fire and water, bad with good concept. quiet cliche. Also cuz Katara has a strong will, and could match good against Zuko's. The other pairing cuz even tho its the typical hero gets girl, the hero is different from the common kind of heroes. plus it seems more realistic in terms of time. BUT ANYHOW just pure personal opinion! even if its shinfo. Interesting video yeh,
the directors actually admitted that zuko was originally going to be kataras love interest? i knew kataang was gonna happen but i dont think it should have there is just NO passion and maiko seemed randomly thrown in season 3 as their excuse to kataang. if they had shown more about mai and zuko earlier then it wouldn't bother me so much.. but it seems really forced unfortunately. im happy they didn't end up having zuko by himself at the end but i would have rather had zutara for sure
@Becca11389 I got a behind the scenes look at the time when they said that zuko was originally supposed to be kataras love interest, but they told me that they changed their minds at the last minute because they wanted aang to have a happy ending; which I can understand, but they should at least humor zutara fans like myself to make an alternate ending for the series with a zutara ending, and follow through with what SHOULD'VE happened, then, everyone's happy. :)

I'm neutral toward Zutara, but I've got absolutely no beef with those who ship it. Don't knock my ship and I won't knock yours. Get to know some of us before you run around making blanket statements. :)
@gem322 I didn't knock your ship, I just stated my opinion about it and about the creators' decisions on ATLA pairings. Why get all butthurt, and why bother checking up on a vid that doesn't even refer to your shipping tastes? After all, these are fictional pairings, so we really shouldn't take them seriously. I wasn't actually targetting any specific kataangers, I was just saying generally what bad experiences I had with some of them. Whatever, not even interested in ATLA pairings anymore :P

@trinityct I couldn't agree more. Toph is perfect for Aang, as I said before. Aang is "light", sweet, a push-over, ect, where Toph is the complete opposites. They fit together very well. As you said, opposites attract. I realize they wanted to do the "hero-gets-girl" thing, but that's just ridiculous and old. It actually annoys the crap out of me when people do those endings. That shiz doesn't happen IRL. And it's soo predictable.
@Epic7Bunny Yeah The Hero-gets-the-girl ending is unoriginal crap that only Disney is capable of pulling. If you watch icarly, the isave your life episode, where Freddy saves Carly's life, Freddy points out that she's only in love with what he did, not actually Freddie. At least were able to point our how old that ending gets. But when Sam kissed Freddie in iOMG, that got much more attention because it was original. The two people who hated each other the most ended up dating. Like zutara should
@trinityct I seriously love you right now. :D I love ICarly, and I know which episodes you are talking about. Those actually tell the truth in what goes on IRL. The creators of Avatar should have seen those two episodes to see how it really should have been done.

It's nice to know that for once, someone is on the same page as me! :) Unfortunately, Bryan and Mike didn't see those icarly episodes because they were made after the last episode of the Avatar series. Bad timing. They could've learned a thing or two. Or ten. (27 is actually the right number I'm looking for.) I respect Kataang and Maiko fans, but it's annoying when they brag about their pairings becoming final. We technically got the last laugh though.

@trinityct That's the thing, though. Fall of the White Lotus is written like the actual creators of Avatar wrote it. It's beautiful, and there is one very small-barely there explicit part, and it doesn't even go into any detail of anything. It's a Zutara and Taang fanfic, and it's just amazing.

Wow, intense argument going on here. From what I've (admittedly) skimmed, I find that I can agree with both of you, on certain points. My biggest problem with Kataang is this: there was no development about Katara's feelings for Aang. I've noticed that many Kataangers (not saying you, coccinelsucrer) point out his feelings for her as evidence. To tell you the truth, I probably would have been fine with the whole Kataang ending (besides the kiss... but he's 12!) IF it wasn't so out of nowhere

Uhh. This is not evidence. You can see that at the end Katara loves Aang. (They get married and have a son you know. They are making a new series) Oh and he grabs Gran Gran becuase he wants to state that the avatar is around that age. So what if she said his name first. Yeah she thinks of him as an enemy because hes part of the fire nation. Zuko knew it was Kataras because he saw her before. Are you forgetting he stole it! He wore it around his wrist because its a safe place.
I've never understood how a person can possibly find that captive scene in the pirates episode romantic. I mean, Katara is TIED TO A TREE, unable to escape while Zuko asks for the avatar in exchange for her necklace and people think "awww"? Don't see what's so cute about that.

Nope. By rational, i meant "making the most sense". Aang and Katara knew each other for much longer, they had been through much more together, so yes, i was happy to see them together. Zutara seems to be more about mating two hot people together. There are much more dirty Zutara fanfics/art than kataang ones. I prefer a ship that is predictable but still logical and cute than a much less predictable one that simply wouldn't have made sense. Especially since Zuko already loved Mai.
@Xtrasupershadowgirl I actually went "wth?" when i saw Bulma and Vegeta get together. It was weird, but i just thought it was funny and shrugged it off because love relationships just aren't one of the most important reasons why i watch and love DB. In ATLA, relationships (friendly and romantic) are one of these things that make this show so realistic and touching, it would have been a much bigger deal if people had been randomly mated together without too much devlopment like in DB.

The reason why i think Zutara is even worse is because there were simply NO sides to it at all. Katara rarely expressed romantic attraction to Aang, but she did show that she deeply cared about him.

But then again, i haven't watched DB for a loooong time, and i never really cared about the relationships in there, so i i barely remember how they were developped.
I never said Aang and Katara had to be together purely because they met each other first, i meant to say that they have been through much more together and therefore know each other much better, they've also had more time to bond emotionally. There already was a deep foundation for their love relationship (their friendship) and they had already expressed concern and care towards one another, hence the fact that it was so predictable. There was simply more devlopment.
I didn't say that zutarians ever called Aang ugly, but you must admit there are much more people fangirling over Zuko than Aang. Like you said, Aang is 12, so he's more likely to be considered "just cute" than "smoking hot" like Zuko is. What i meant to say is that i find it quite shallow to prefer zutara just because it looks better than kataang (zuko is considered more attractive and is taller and older than Katara, thus comforming to our current societal norms).
Oh, and also, i know you might interpret it this way so i'll clearify, i do not believe that all zutarians are that shallow and just mate zuko and katara because they look better together, but i noticed that a lot are (hence all the dirty zutara fanarts and fics). I like the fact that kataang is not too traditional (with Aang being shorter, younger and not particularly hot), but then again, that's just me. I'm really not trying to say that you're some rabit zuko-fangirl or somehting!

No. The fact that he risked his life does not change anything about the fact that they never ever showed any signs of romantic attraction for one another. I know zutara was no-sided because of the long kataang kiss at the end of the show. And Bryke did say kataang was in the DNA of the show so here again, i have some back up. Anyway, i can't stop you from shipping what you ship, but my opinion of Zutara is still the same. good for fanon, but for the canon, it's still kataang all the way for me.
@Xtrasupershadowgirl What Bryke say is much more reliable than what you are sure of. Being confused means not being sure of whether she loved him or not, that kiss showed that she realized she did at the end. There was no reason for her to be jaelous when her "symbol of hope" danced with another girl, but there was one if she didn't like the idea of Aang being with someone else. Katara did not show ENOUGH signs of attraction (which is why it was so poorly developped), but she DID express some.
@Xtrasupershadowgirl Wait, what? Your arguments about how we don't know whether it's no-sided or not are just as valid for kataang. Katara also cried when Aang got shot, and she blushed during the headband when they danced, she also showed affection multiple times by hugging or kissing him on the cheek. If you believe kataang was one-sided and poorly devlopped while there was all of this, i don't see how it makes sense to believe zutara was sided at all while there was just one hug and tears.
@Xtrasupershadowgirl You're interpreting these scenes differently because you're a zutarian, but they were the same. When Aang got shot, Katara also "ran to him in desperation" with her water wave and healed him. Aang never risked his life for Katara because he never got the occasion to do so, Zuko had no choice, knowing that he could redirect lightening and thus had a much higher chance of survival than Katara did. The "can't one cry for their friend?" question is just as valid for your scene.
@Xtrasupershadowgirl Again, the ending proves that he was more than just a "symbol of hope" for her. She did not express it enough times, but she did not express anything AT ALL for Zuko either and Zuko also did not for her at all (hence me calling it no-sided). He just wanted to be accepted by the whole group (including her) which explains why he was so concerned about her opinion. So yes, Aang is hope for Katara, but more than that also.
If you think so, then think so, that's great for you! A forbidden "Romeo and Juliet" type of love story with the good girl falling for the bad boy wouldn't be that much more original to me either. And Aang not giving up Katara is not a flaw at all, he's only human, it was entirely understandable that it was so hard for him to give up the girl he was IN LOVE WITH. I mean seriously, it would've been just as hard for Zuko if he had been in Aang's shoes at the time.

I believe Zutara is cliche in the sense that it is more in accordance with our actual norms when it comes to relationships, and i applaud any series or books that try to deviate from that norm. Katara doesn't show much signs of reciprocal attraction, i definitely agree, but *again* Zuko and Katara do not show any signs at all, which is why, i repeat, it would have felt more rushed if they just started dating at the end of the show.

The norm i was talking about though wasn't justthe norm amongst the fanbase, it's the relationship norms of our society in its entirety (about how the guy has to be older and taller and more muscled to get the pretty girl), a norm which zutara is closer to (and it's quite hard to ignore norms we've pretty much all been raised with) while kataang is closer to the "hero gets the girl" one. Thus making them both cliche and different at the same time.

Zutara could have been canon if it had had more time to develop. Which it just hadn't, thus making it better for fanon than canon.
@Xtrasupershadow I can talk about how zutara would have been underdeveloped if it had happened as this is truly what I believe due to its no-sidedness and Mai. Does it mean I believe kataang/Maiko was flawlessly developed? No, and I never said it was, I just believe that zutara would have been even worse as Katara and Zuko would have had to go from being mortal enemies to lovers in 6 episodes or so. You do not agree with it and that is your right, but it doesn’t change anything about my opinion.

These videos were right!!! If anyone saw that extra thing about how Zutara was the original love interest. When I saw that I thought of these videos and it made me sad they although correct, they may be seen a wrong.
It was an avatar extra in the second episode of the first season. There's a picture of it floating around online. The place I saw it is down but you could probably find another site, it surged everywhere when it first came out.
Perhaps Zuko needs that sulky bitch more than the tender Katara. So, perhaps in a way Zutara was onesided too and Katara did choose Aang in the end, though i dare say she could do better than with childish Aang, she'd need someone who can look after her, for real, not someone to look after, though that works in a way for her too:p
So, Katang happened And in HP Ginny&Harry happened . Considering them both, the pairing seems incorrectly and thrown forth too quickly, however "canon" they might be. Katang WAS one sided until Katara swoops in and suddenly throws away her motherly side. That said, it didn't mean that Zutara was perfect for each other. I can see Katarara with Zuko, he'd good for her. But honestly Mai and Zuko match better, two depressed ppl becoming happy thrue one another?
The truth is... the reason why people don't like Kataang was because maybe... Aang reallly was way shorter than Katara and Zutara made some sense because both of them are tall.... but other than that... it doesn't anymore makes sense, they may seem to look better together, but actually aren't...
Zutara can happen, i admit it. But Mai would have to die or break up with Zuko, which DIDN'T happen, and Aang would also have to die or break up with Katara, which, judging all they've been through, WILL NOT HAPPEN.
Anyways, if it did, why would Katara like Zuko? She would probably like some Water Tribe dude or Haru. Zuko wouldn't possibly come to her mind. The reason Avatar has Zutara 'Hints' is because that they want to keep the Zutarians watching until the end.

I like both Kataang and Zutara. The latter because of the whole fire and water, bad with good concept. quiet cliche. Also cuz Katara has a strong will, and could match good against Zuko's. The other pairing cuz even tho its the typical hero gets girl, the hero is different from the common kind of heroes. plus it seems more realistic in terms of time. the directors actually admitted that zuko was originally going to be kataras love interest? i knew kataang was gonna happen but i dont think it should have there is just NO passion and maiko seemed randomly thrown in season 3 as their excuse to kataang. if they had shown more about mai and zuko earlier then it wouldn't bother me so much.. but it seems really forced unfortunately. im happy they didn't end up having zuko by himself at the end but i would have rather had zutara for sure

@Becca11389 I got a behind the scenes look at the time when they said that zuko was originally supposed to be kataras love interest, but they told me that they changed their minds at the last minute because they wanted aang to have a happy ending; which I can understand, but they should at least humor zutara fans like myself to make an alternate ending for the series with a zutara ending, and follow through with what SHOULD'VE happened, then, everyone's happy. :)

@trinityct I couldn't agree more. Toph is perfect for Aang, as I said before. Aang is "light", sweet, a push-over, ect, where Toph is the complete opposites. They fit together very well. As you said, opposites attract. I realize they wanted to do the "hero-gets-girl" thing, but that's just ridiculous and old. It actually annoys the crap out of me when people do those endings. That shiz doesn't happen IRL. And it's soo predictable.

Wow, intense argument going on here. From what I've (admittedly) skimmed, I find that I can agree with both of you, on certain points. My biggest problem with Kataang is this: there was no development about Katara's feelings for Aang. I've noticed that many Kataangers (not saying you, coccinelsucrer) point out his feelings for her as evidence. To tell you the truth, I probably would have been fine with the whole Kataang ending (besides the kiss... but he's 12!) IF it wasn't so out of nowhere

Uhh. This is not evidence. You can see that at the end Katara loves Aang. (They get married and have a son you know. They are making a new series) Oh and he grabs Gran Gran becuase he wants to state that the avatar is around that age. So what if she said his name first. I've never understood how a person can possibly find that captive scene in the pirates episode romantic. I mean, Katara is TIED TO A TREE, unable to escape while Zuko asks for the avatar in exchange for her necklace and people think "awww"? Don't see what's so cute about that.
And man, when a simple crown is considered as symbolicism, it's time to realize there's something really wrong.
Don't have anything against fanon!zutara, but I'm glad kataang's canon. It was the most rational ship.

Nope. By rational, i meant "making the most sense". Aang and Katara knew each other for much longer, they had been through much more together, so yes, i was happy to see them together. Zutara seems to be more about mating two hot people together. There are much more dirty Zutara fanfics/art than kataang ones. I prefer a ship that is predictable but still logical and cute than a much less predictable one that simply wouldn't have made sense. Especially since Zuko already loved Mai.

It was weird, but i just thought it was funny and shrugged it off because love relationships just aren't one of the most important reasons why i watch and love DB. In ATLA, relationships (friendly and romantic) are one of these things that make this show so realistic and touching, it would have been a much bigger deal if people had been randomly mated together without too much devlopment like in DB.

Anyway, yes, i agree that kataang on Katara's side was done really, poorly and it was one sided pretty much the entire time. The reason why i think Zutara is even worse is because there were simply NO sides to it at all. Katara rarely expressed romantic attraction to Aang, but she did show that she deeply cared about him.

I never said Aang and Katara had to be together purely because they met each other first, i meant to say that they have been through much more together and therefore know each other much better, they've also had more time to bond emotionally. There already was a deep foundation for their love relationship (their friendship) and they had already expressed concern and care towards one another, hence the fact that it was so predictable. I didn't say that zutarians ever called Aang ugly, but you must admit there are much more people fangirling over Zuko than Aang. Like you said, Aang is 12, so he's more likely to be considered "just cute" than "smoking hot" like Zuko is. What i meant to say is that i find it quite shallow to prefer zutara just because it looks better than kataang (zuko is considered more attractive and is taller and older than Katara, thus comforming to our current societal norms).

I know zutara was no-sided because of the long kataang kiss at the end of the show. And Bryke did say kataang was in the DNA of the show so here again, i have some back up. Being confused means not being sure of whether she loved him or not, that kiss showed that she realized she did at the end. There was no reason for her to be jaelous when her "symbol of hope" danced with another girl, but there was one if she didn't like the idea of Aang being with someone else. Katara did not show ENOUGH signs of attraction (which is why it was so poorly developped), but she DID express some.

Katara also cried when Aang got shot, and she blushed during the headband when they danced, she also showed affection multiple times by hugging or kissing him on the cheek. When Aang got shot, Katara also "ran to him in desperation" with her water wave and healed him. Aang never risked his life for Katara because he never got the occasion to do so, Zuko had no choice, knowing that he could redirect lightening and thus had a much higher chance of survival than Katara did. The "can't one cry for their friend?" question is just as valid for your scene.

She did not express it enough times, but she did not express anything AT ALL for Zuko either and Zuko also did not for her at all (hence me calling it no-sided). I believe Zutara is cliche in the sense that it is more in accordance with our actual norms when it comes to relationships, and i applaud any series or books that try to deviate from that norm. The norm i was talking about though wasn't justthe norm amongst the fanbase, it's the relationship norms of our society in its entirety (about how the guy has to be older and taller and more muscled to get the pretty girl), a norm which zutara is closer to (and it's quite hard to ignore norms we've pretty much all been raised with) while kataang is closer to the "hero gets the girl" one. Thus making them both cliche and different at the same time.

@Xtrasupershadowgirl Oh My God. talking with a guy who wants to flirt with you does NOT equal flirting back. She did not know Zuko was THAT jaelous, that's the reason why she reacted so negatively. Again, that seemed to be pretty obvious. Zuko was the one at fault for not trusting his own girlfriend, so at least this taught him a lesson.

I hate to be the devils advocate but that was not very good evidence for Zutara. I'm hardcore KAtaang and I've seen much better evidence then this.

Alright people just chill. It says that it hada seperate sound file, so that is why there is no sound in JUST THIS ONE. If you check out another video there is sound. And people we know that Kataang happenedo relax, these weremade before then.

It was an avatar extra in the second episode of the first season. There's a picture of it floating around online. The place I saw it is down but you could probably find another site, it surged everywhere when it first came out.

Perhaps Zuko needs that sulky bitch more than the tender Katara. So, perhaps in a way Zutara was onesided too and Katara did choose Aang in the end, though i dare say she could do better than with childish Aang, she'd need someone who can look after her, for real, not someone to look after, though that works in a way for her too:p

So, Katang happened And in HP Ginny&Harry happened . Considering them both, the pairing seems incorrectly and thrown forth too quickly, however "canon" they might be. Katang WAS one sided until Katara swoops in and suddenly throws away her motherly side. That said, it didn't mean that Zutara was perfect for each other. I can see Katarara with Zuko, he'd good for her. But honestly Mai and Zuko match better, two depressed ppl becoming happy thrue one another?

The truth is... the reason why people don't like Kataang was because maybe... Aang reallly was way shorter than Katara and Zutara made some sense because both of them are tall.... but other than that... it doesn't anymore makes sense, they may seem to look better together, but actually aren't...
Zutara freaks me out... I am a Maiko fan BTW...

Zutara can happen, i admit it. But Mai would have to die or break up with Zuko, which DIDN'T happen, and Aang would also have to die or break up with Katara, which, judging all they've been through, WILL NOT HAPPEN.
Anyways, if it did, why would Katara like Zuko? She would probably like some Water Tribe dude or Haru. Zuko wouldn't possibly come to her mind. The reason Avatar has Zutara 'Hints' is because that they want to keep the Zutarians watching until the end.
