JUDY GARLAND UNA VOZ DULCE y privilegiada y con You Go To My Heart algo digni de escucharse. y la interpretacion de esta musica con LES ELGART no la tiene YOU TUBE? yo tenia el Long Play.
The 60s orchestrations enrich this song. The "bubbling" trills in the strings, the cha-cha percussion, the muted brass interjections, the immensely satisfying and knowing countermelodies, all of it captured in extraordinary stereo sound. One of my top favorite Garland songs. Superb repertoire choice for the quality of her voice in this period of her career.
The 60s orchestrations ruin this song. Too bad she didn't sing this when her voice was in its prime, around the time when You Go To My Head was originally recorded in 1938. Except, that wouldn't have happened because they would never have let 16 year old Judy sing such a grown up song. I can just imagine L.B. Mayer having a heart attack while she sang "you intoxicate my soul with your eyes."
@ps3consolewar. She had a substance abuse problem but did not let that interfere with her pleasing her audiences. She was given bennies and seconal at a very young age which addicted her for her entire life. Breaking an addiction is nearly impossible without proper pychiatric help. However what she left us with is her incredible artistry! Most geniuses blow there talent! Judy exploited her talent to the fullest!
Lovely lyrics and nobody like Judy to express those feelings with so much gusto. This music takes me to an era unknown by me, but that I have seen in movies and older people talk about it the times when the world was a better place, at least a little bit more decent looking people. Lovely! Thank you for sharing this gem.
@Damone - No, Garland was chewed up by the system and started self medicating at 13. Have some fucking sympathy and maybe read about her life a little. For fuck's sake I'm a straight up thrash metal guy and I know this. You name yourself after a crooner and don't know this while I do?
pagea1990 what a wonderful way to put her into words.all of my words sound the same as others. But Judy Garland was music's Mistress is it!!!! Nothing else said about Judy can top it.Simple plain truth about Judy she was music's Mistress......Still Loving you Judy Barb...
She has not only my name....she is same me talented......Hahahah...
Seriously..... one of the GREATEST OF THE GREAT..... she had a difficult life......already as little kid she was a star and must entertain.....and those artists live dangerous..... she died miserable....
There was once a Judy Garland when God wanted us to have someone very, but very special. There will never ever be another like Miss Garland. Now we have these recordings and her films to enjoy for the rest of our existence on earth. She is necessary in my life. Life is less depressing with her music. God Bless Her!
I almost like this version better than the Carnegie Hall one... usually i like the faster version of anything, but this being slower lets you take in all thats going on. Love it.
Yeah...When she forgets the words. There's another version of her performing that song live on her show and she forgets the words again -- she even stops to say she ALWAYS forgets those words.
@redstatesrule She had a mental block about that song and actually did forget two linesof it when performing live, which is not uncommon for singers with a big repetoire, and also busy actors. They can completely forget the line, or do it wrong the first time, then get in a rut-- they always get it wrong. The notion that she purposely forgot the line, in some fancy-schmancy psychoanalytical way- to become one with the commoners- is pretty silly. She was down-to-earth, and people knew it.
Judy's voice is simply perfect with this song!! I like the fact that she goes up a whole step from the second chorus on and really accentuate her beautifully rich range. The Latin arrangement of the back up also helps to bring out the best in this sultry song.
Y'know? I listened to them back-to-back, and I've never heard such a similarly tortured, shattering, human take on this song from Lady Day's version, until I heard this one. (The cha-cha stuff in the beginning is kinda camp, but she's always honest.)
In concert, she purposely forgot the words to songs to relate more to her audiences. Judy had a great sense of humour, and was by no means enthralled with her own voice; believe me, she much would have sent you into hysterics LOL. Lucille Ball said that Judy was the funniest woman in show Biz! tHAT'S QUITE A COMpliment comming from the queen of comedy
I love this song with her! But I especially love the one version where she forgets the words and replaces them with "And I always forget the stupid words... I guess something with a thousand July's". That always amuses me!
There's a good ad-lib on the Carnegie Hall recording titled "Judy Judy Judy". She says "And I forgot the gol-darn words..." Everyone who loves Judy needs to hear that concert. The version out on CD has every last word from start to finish. Yes, I'm a big Judy nerd...

I think Peggy Lee´s version is boring.
Because it´s too slow.

Closer to the original Marlene Dietrich version in tempo, but the punchiness of the Cha Cha makes it seem even slower.

The Louis Armstrong version of this song is one of my absolute favorites. I've never heard her sing this- I love it!
