Listen to the commentary on the episode. Brendon and Loren clearly state that it's basically an animated version of Rear Window. It's just like the episode of Family Guy where they ripped off Poltergeist. The Simpsons also did the whole Rear Window rip off as well. You can call it a tribute if you want, to me it's a blatant rip off. I still love it, but it's a rip off nonetheless.
