I'm listening along and every now and then a certain part would make me think of some movie, video game or something where that same peice of music had played - and until now I'd had no idea where it came from... and now I do and am glad for it.
@KentRigeI My friend is the part played in the background of C64 game Arabian Nights and the original Prince of Persia game (if memory serves well on Amiga)
Bravo to this young lady and her violin playing. It is exceptional and brought tears to my eyes. Bravo to the orchestra and to Concertmaster Alexandra Hjortswang for a fantastic performance.
This is one of my 2 favorites. Tchaikovsky piano concerto is the other. To witness either one of these live, is like being in heaven. Or at least as close to it without being alive from the dead........ If this is a glimpse of our youth, then we should not worry about the future.
hi...im wondering if anyone can tell me the name of the song that is usually associated with coldwar U.S. and Russian films..the typical piano song...thanks
I'm not a classical music fan to be honest so this is actually the first time I've ever heard this song. It's truely beautiful and played by a group of people with real talent!
This is fabulous, the 1st. and 4th movements are my favorites. Thank-you for making it so easy to hear this piece. It has gotten me through the worst times ever and I haven't been able to hear it for a long time. To see these young people play these intricate parts is just great to hear and see.
I didn't say TDs version made sense. Enough people liked it back then to make it one of his biggest hits. It reminds me of Elvis Presley singing "It's Now or Never" using the melody "O Solo Mio" by Eduardo di Capua. I suppose if one doesn't like it they could refrain from listening to it again.... Don't you agree? Thanks
I didn't say what I said to be critical of either version. I only suggested that those interested could listen to it and see if they enjoyed it. I'm very fond of the original "Song of India" myself. Years ago I traveled in India and went up to Manali in the Himalayan foothills (mountains) and in that benign, pastoral place the memory of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakovs version came to mind. It does capture the mystical, fantastic India once you get out of the cities. Sorry if I offended you.

There are no adequate words.... only to say I feel elevated and the violin soloist was magnificent. I would love a recording of this. Thank you so much!
That concermaster has a superb sounding violin. Something tells me it is not a strad or guarneri (maybe I'm wrong). Further proof that many other violins sound just as good as the strads and guernaris. The exclusive superiority of those violins is a myth.
i was lookin for this piece everywhere, when i was a kid my grandpaa used to turn on the radio so we can listen to the 1001 nights tales just before i sleep and the sound of the violin was on the background and it just keeps looping in my head, its beautiful, i could really imagine that i'm the prince shehraiar and the princess shehrazad is telling me all of thoes stories, sindbad alladin and the 40 thieves man thoes were some good times...
I was a kid, when I listen to a fairy-tale LP, and this solo violin was the background music to the story. I always cried, when hearing this sad,sad violin. I always thought, this must be a very sad woman or girl, who cried about a lost love or something else. It took years, I was a grown-up, till I found the name and composer of this wonderful piece of music. It still gives me goose pimples all over my body. They play it really great Love it so much!
Movements are "songs" (for a lack of a better term)
Sheherezade is 4 movements long and the creator of this video cut and pasted from each movement (He specifically is featuring the Sheherezade Violin solo's of each movement which is a common theme in all 4 movements)....
It's amazing how a single violin can touch my soul and delight ... thanks so much .. en castellano , es fantastico como el sonido de un viloin puede tocar mi alma y deleitarla

im a huge fan of wind instruments, but theres just a little something more you can get out of listening to a group of great string instruments, i guess the longevity of a good tone or somthing. All in all, both a marvelous and beautifully gracious performance.
This is great for a youth orchestra, but the horns could use some work. Sounded like they didn't quite have the stamina with the chips at the end. Maybe this was a later piece in a series, though.
