Guys I've been shooting since I was 7 and killed and ate my first game (game as in animal) at 11. It all depends on education. But for 3 years old??? the minimum for a child to shoot should be 7 and kids should get very good gun education (not to point at someone, dropping it etc) as young as they can. And who eveer said shooting isn't for surving and we can jus buy catle. Fuck you! Many people in the world are poor and don't have shops near them and have to hunt for survival.
And what would you do with the kids? Make them play some crappy game like call of duty or take them shooting where they can have safe, supervised fun?

I've been hunting, it doesn't give you a bigger advantage of survivability if such a thing would happen, just because you gave a kid a gun when he was young. Sure you go on all about that self-esteem thing, its a reason but the best way for a kid to get raised is still not to hand him a shotgun, it's good this guy is spending time with his kid but this is the wrong way of doing it.

I started hunting with my dad at age 9, on a 20 gauge single shot. though he always around me and watch me like a hawk while i was handling it. then when i got more mature where he could put me down in a spot and let me do it on my own he did. but just maybe that gun was a little to much for that boy, he might be batter off using a shot gun that shoots smaller shells.

Ah, I wish I could have gone hunting with my dad when I was little. But I'm a fille de la ville in a family of nerds. We bonded over Nintendo Duck Hunt, not the real thing.

She was not as little as your son but positive re enforcement and no fear is the way. I am a Range master for my department and my little girl can out shoot most of them with one hand... pistol or rifle.
This should be mandatory for all hunting fathers.
