I "met" Quasthoff when watching his "Watch What Happens" video on the DG channel and then I started to find out more about him. Since then he has become my personal true hero and inspiration, and though I know I won't be a singer, but maybe a musician, Quasthoff has made me to love the Romantic lieder and love even more the classical music. I really hope to met him in person; that would be more than just fantastic.
There was on youtube a video of a Thomas Quasthoff interview where he sings a Popular Song in German and accompained by a man playing a kind of little guitar. I cannot find ths video... anyone know about it?
"In our days, when it is possible to detect malformations in a baby who is still in the uterus, many parents would have thought of going for an abortion in a similar case"
this point of development referenced in the above comment to which i responded is far beyond the point that you reference in your insulting, condescending, and irrelevant response.
sophie, i was just thinking the same. but of course the potential of genius shouldn't be the cause that dissuades one from killing their unborn. you would think that simple human decency would be sufficient.
It is a precious gift for the world to have a man like Quasthoff. He made me cry with his rendition of Schubert's Lieder. He is a great artist.
In our days, when it is possible to detect malformations in a baby who is still in the uterus, many parents would have thought of going for an abortion in a similar case. Who knows how many Thomas Quasthoffs are being killed in this way all over the world? And why aren't we horrified at this massive crime?
In the same sense, how many Hitlers, Saddam Husseins, Stalins, Mobutus and many other criminals are not born and so many more lives saved., artists like Quasthoff included.
I wanted to buy this video for my Father but after going to the JPC site(mostly in German) the cost is 19.99 Euros but there is no reference to dollars or how to deliver to the US. I found a single copy on Amazon(listed as "used") but far overpriced at $79.99 Someone is trying to make money on the language and availability difference. Should cost about $30. Does anyone know where to find it reasonably priced in the US?
This looks like a fantastic documentary and truly a beautiful and inspirational story. Thomas Quasthoff is one of my favourite performers and indeed his story is nonetheless astounding for what he's acheived. A real miracle.
