You know what's missing from music now? No, it's not talent, musicianship, inspiration, passion, creativity (well it is all those things) but what's really missing is SWEATER VESTS!!
Plants voice then had a depth and solidity that I dont really hear in later years. Really like hearing him sing on this footage and other Albert Hall stuff. Just a straight ahead, no bull shit, rock band then, before the whole rock god, Crowley stuff came in.
This is a song by eddie cochran. The who also covered a song by the same guy called summertime blues. The led can really take some early rock stuff and kick out the jams.
@packeropie Hmm, Original. Try that line somewhere were JB is still popular...Oh wait, theres no where he's still popular. His 15 minutes are over, time to get over him.
@PBANDSNOW A. why does it matter WHERE I post that line. B. what do I have to get over? I have never liked justin bieber, in fact I think this might be the first time I've ever posted a Bieber related comment anywhere for that matter. I don't really understand what you're trying to say with YOUR douchy comment.
gotta love everything on this performance , also the audience is perfect , one of the 10 best moments in rock history (maybe The best , the whole concert is BRILLIANT !)
I have watched alot of concerts in person and on youtube , but this one really is something else. There is something about these dudes that sets them apart ! Sure they have the chops but the stage presence each member carries just makes it impossible not to watch . And they are just a bunch of kids here ! But they had something and they knew it , you can see and hear the confidence and youth and vitality. I dont wish for fame but it must have been great to be those guys at that time.
i think punk hate zeppelin or sabbath because people always made them as a standard in Rock Band. I mean, when you're trying to play the rock song, people said "oh, Zeppelin and Sabbath are better than you!". People always trying to be Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. They didn't like it. they wanted to be free. So, they made a movement. Punk. i don't know much about Punk. but, i think people have their own ways to express something.
I meant it was cool for a while for punks to hate on Zeppelin. Most respect them nowadays. I grew up in the Washington DC hardcore scene and constantly found myself at odds with my friends who hated Zeppelin and Sabbath because some overzealous straight edge virgin arsehole told them to.
@TheGreaterGood80 Back then, bands like Zeppelin and Sabbath epitomized the old guard of Rock and Roll...sort of the authority that needed overthrown. It was just part of the Punk movement to hate on these bands, especially once Johnny Rotten wore an "I hate Pink Floyd" shirt. (Zeppelin is the greatest band ever, for my money.)
This is why rock is the best.Nothing can compare, except for good jazz and blues, and some classical...but,I digress.Totally caught Bonzo jumping.Old JP looks pretty stoked, too.
@TheGreaterGood80 A lot of punks liked Zeppelin. Topper Headon of the clash was a zep fan, all of the ramones were zep fans (communication breakdown was the song that gave them the idea) the only one punk who hated them was Johnny Rotten...but thats ok because hes Johnny Rotten
@PBANDSNOW haha ya Johnny Rotten is a dick. he's really one to talk to isn't he, with his ONE album that the sex pistols made. what a self involved prick.
@PBANDSNOW ya for sure. Nevermind the Bullocks is a very important album, especially in the punk rock genre, but thats ALL that they did, and here's Johnny Rotten getting a big head and doin stuff like turning down the rock and roll HOF (which I don't think the sex pistols even deserved when bands like KISS are still not in and Sabbath had to wait a bunch of years past their eligibility) and dissin zep...it's like "who does this guy think he is?"
@PBANDSNOW yep, not to mention Black Flag, Killing Joke, etc. I recall Paul Simonon trash talking them based on their album covers. And Johnny Rotten? He was a David Bowie and Hawkwind worshiper who decided to put on a bad boy persona because Malcolm McLaren told him it would be fashionable.
@TheGreaterGood80 Part of what you said is true. Johnny Rotten trashed them not because Malcolm McLaren told him too, he did it because he legit HATED stadium bands, thats why the the only real stadium they ever played was their last show. And Paul Simonon did trash Led Zeppelin I, but he only liked reggae anyways, even if he had heard the album he would have disliked it.
@CentraCross No true at all. Most were heavily influenced by mainstream. They were disenchanted by all these huge monster arena rock bands that could care less about the fans.
@GDuBMuSiCk - No, in this context the word "Punk" isn't about child like bad behavior, "Punk' in this context is Rock-N-Rolls bastard offspring and many of the people who play it lack musical talent but not all of them!
@StompingRabbits Yeah, a lot can't play and that's why they're jealous of the power that Zeppelin had. Punk can be a cool style if it's not abused, like everything else in life. Ska is kinda like punk and reggae combined.
I used to love Zepellin until I became interested in 50s rock and roll back in 1972. The Eddie Cochran version is superb in its own right, Zepellins version is in a different category altogether,
what amaze in this stage is the simplicity opposite to the graet hammer of the sounds ! Days were the band and only what they were capable to do count in fact none a circus 360 spectacle needed!
I also have to throw a bone to Eddie Cochran here, the "grandfather of hard rock"--what other 50s rocker had the likes of Led Zeppelin, Blue Cheer, Sex Pistols, Humble Pie, and the Who covering their songs?
For all his "hippy-ness", I like to think of Robert Plant as a "throwback" to the 50s hepcats: He had the gyrations of Elvis Presley and the wild blonde curly haired look of Jerry Lee Lewis! Look at an old video of Jerry Lee, you'll see an "uncanny" resemblance to Plant when his "slicked back" hair curls down while he plays!
